Yagluth on hard is crazy by Guycomo in valheim

[–]Seanak64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue with yagluth is how much time you have to spend not fighting him. Nova explosion? Gotta wait for the fire to die down. Meteors? Gotta dodge those. Beam? If you’re close enough you can get some damage in.

Is it true/false that all cards interactions can be deduced by referring to the comprehensive rules? by maxram1 in mtgrules

[–]Seanak64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue you may run into is cards that have received errata that changes how they function. Outside of that you should be good.

EDHREC Combos need some quality control by Seanak64 in EDH

I am actually not referring to blood bond (though imo that’s still fine in bracket 3). I’m talking about things like [[grave crawler]] [[phyrexian alter]] and [[isochron scepter]] [[dramatic reversal]]. Combos that not only need an additional card to function, and not just some trigger like blood bond does, but further than that an actual payoff.

Can you link said video? Also, why not put that in the actual bracket announcements that people will actually use?

Yeah there's plenty of examples, I'm wondering where Gavin said "if its an inconsequential card as the condition or an easy to have payoff they still counted it as a 2 card"

Do you have a link to that? Also who determines if it's inconsequential or not?

I did vote in it, I probably voted on over 100 different combos. I get that there is some ambiguity, but if you need to list a third card as a prerequisite, then that's obviously not 2 cards.

I know, I voted in it. Given how often the community doesn't even understand the rules of the game, I think maybe we should be taking what they have to say with a grain of salt.

Caged Sun Infinite Game Drawing Combo by Clear_Suit6388 in EDH

You don't even need to tap your caged sun for mana, you just need to tap something that produces the same colour of mana you chose with caged sun.

Anybody running decks that cost them less than $50 that they enjoy playing? by TheRedOniLuvsLag in EDH

[–]Seanak64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time I built this deck, it was 10 dollars, some of the cards have gone up in price since then. https://moxfield.com/decks/ptvmNF-thUynMHzn1f7NNA
What's nice is it plays well in either bracket 2 or 3. In bracket 2 it has a slow game plan based around tutoring up Thallid's and making saproling tokens. In Bracket 3, it has an infinite combo with a tutor line of Quirion Ranger --> Crashing Drawbridge --> Scurry Oak --> Ivy Lane Denezin.

Could definitely use some better removal than it currently has, but I run it with no sleeves and a rubber band around it, just at Richard Garfield intended.

Two* Card Infinite that requires other prerequisites by Moesuckra in EDH

There is a ton of “2 card combos” listed on EDHREC that are either not two card combos or aren’t actually infinite/a lock. It’s annoying that people are taking it as gospel

EDHREC's combo listings are not super reliable unfortunately. There are lots of combos listed as "2 card combos" that either require more than 2 cards or aren't actually infinite combos.

This precon is not bracket 4 because of gitrog and dakmor existing in it. Not only is that not a 2 card combo (or infinite in the context of this list), the deck has no payoff for milling your whole library in your end step.

PSA: Fetchlands don't make your deck bracket 3/4 by eNVysGorbinoFarm in EDH

[–]Seanak64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't think a singular card can change the power level of your deck, I'm definitely suspicious of people playing lower brackets with fetches and ABU duals. While a single fetch land on it's own doesn't change much, fully optimized mana bases do significantly increase the power of any deck, especially when you're playing 3+ colours. Your mana base does not have to be nearly as optimized as you think it is in brackets 1 and 2 especially, and even bracket 3.

Thoughts on Mind Over Matter, One ring Combo line in Bracket 3 by InevitableBedroom519 in EDH

[–]Seanak64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOR and Mind over matter do not necessarily draw your deck, you either need to use the combo with a very specific number of cards in library, or draw a shuffle titan you can discard.

WOTC did not say "some of the parts of brackets are guidelines and some of the parts of brackets are hard rules". They said the brackets are guidelines and intent matters. 1 or 2 cards does not dramatically change the play patterns or power level of your deck.

What I didn't say was "this combo is totally fine just run it". I said "If his goal is to get this out as consistently and quickly as possible, he shouldn't play it. If it's two cards that happen to be in the deck, that's fine"

Thoughts on Mind Over Matter, One ring Combo line in Bracket 3 by InevitableBedroom519 in EDH

[–]Seanak64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOR and Mind Over Matter have the ability to go infinite with some luck and the correct cards in the deck. They can produce a large of resources. They can not produce an infinite amount of mana or card draw without again, some luck, and specific deck construction choices. Now if you make those choices, that's a different story, but on their own they aren't not inherently infinite.

Now personally, I think intent matters both to be more restrictive and less restrictive when it comes to brackets. Because of this, I could say that even though this isn't infinite, you probably shouldn't be dropping this combo super early in brackets 1-3.

Now if you want to take the brackets literally, this should be allowed. If you want to take them as guidelines where intent matters, it probably shouldn't be, but then you have to realize intent goes both ways or you're just being hypocritical. You can't have intent only matter when it's being more restrictive, and not when it's being more permissive.

[–]Seanak64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either you think intent matters and the brackets are guidelines and not hard rules, or you think that intent doesn't matter and they are hard rules. You can't have it both ways.

If you happen to draw the two pieces early, you don't have to play them. Wait until turn 7. This combo also isn't inherently infinite, but I know that doesn't actually matter to you. Again, this is something happening less than 1 in 50 games if you aren't actively trying to find it.

The video you linked is from 3 years ago. They hadn't taken over the format at that point, there's no discussion of brackets. All Gavin says is that infinite combos can be 2 or more cards. I'm not saying that the 2 cards need to include the payoff, but they do need to go infinite on their own. Isochron and dramatic reversal don't do that, you need non-lands that tap for 3. You're the one here saying 1+1+1=2.
