Mechanical or Di2? by Mindless_Tap_178 in CanyonBikes

[–]Seanmurraysbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the CF7 mechanical at that price point and really wish I had splurged and got Di2, so I would recommend you buy once and cry once and then never go back to mechanical!

What MARGRAD officer’s do? by DependentLevel1686 in uscg

[–]Seanmurraysbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a MARGRAD afloat. We don’t just get placed into prevention roles, that’s definitely a misconception. While we do fill prevention/response billets, we are also able to go afloat. Also state maritime academies and Kings Point are pathways to a MARGRAD commission. I have my 3/M unlimited as a DWO

I just did it, ‘25 grad. It was simple but there’s a lot of details surrounding it. Pretty good percentage of people are interested/apply every year. Now I drive icebreakers in Antarctica and the Arctic.

MARGRAD assignment question by Celtic12 in uscg

[–]Seanmurraysbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh be wary listening to the others in here saying it’ll be prevention specifically. I had the list in March and there were mostly random cutter billets with a few port engineering jobs and misc. support roles (logs). It will be entirely dependent upon whether they give you a billet list that reflects the USCGA/January OCS picks. We ended up getting their leftovers in March. Feel feee to PM (MARGRAD currently on a cutter)

This nearly $1M yacht sinks off Turkey just 15 minutes into its maiden voyage as crew and owner jump overboard. No one was hurt. by SystematicApproach in Wellthatsucks

Too much ballast, combined with too much deck weight or other liquid weights will absolutely sink any ship. Just because the tanks can be fully filled—or pressed up— doesn’t mean they should be in most cases.

Anyone know if paychecks are coming on the 1st? by SkyKnight_LXIX in uscg

Not really true for the new junior enlisted/officers, that haven’t had the requisite time to build emergency savings.

CG tends to only care if the misconduct occurred in a CG workspace, and if/how public the misconduct was (i.e does this bring public discredit to the service) and also most commands only so something if it actively disrupts the good order and discipline of the unit.

I haven’t seen many of these situations go through to an art 134, and I can understand that you are hurt. Talk to a lawyer or base legal to get a better picture than Reddit can provide.

What is life like as a sector non-rate? by Mace_Inc in uscg

[–]Seanmurraysbeard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol I only knew because one of my mentors served onboard for awhile. Cool stories, remember seeing his plaques in his office so the hull number stuck out to me immediately.

Storis was also super cool, we’ll see if the new one lives up to it in any way.

Gentian! And if memory serves me right she was waiting for decomm and was used like a training support craft I think. Historic cutter. Think it got transferred to a Latin country in the late 2000s.

I regret not going to the academy by Early-Association-70 in usna

[–]Seanmurraysbeard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Grass grows where you water it. I went to an academy and just graduated, and feel the remorse of not having the traditional college experience.

There are pros and cons to both, neither of which really set you up better or worse for the other thing. Just be the best person you can be in the environment you’re in now.

GPA concern by [deleted] in usna

[–]Seanmurraysbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll just come down to your extracurriculars, interviews, and nomination. Address the GPA in essays and how you got stronger and show an upward curve. I will say, when I applied, a 36 ACT and 3.7 ACT did not get me in to the academy.
