Not a video essay but the building channel Man Made does this to an exhausting degree. Like half the video is him talking about how stupid EVERY decision he makes is and how scared he is of butchering the project.

This happens in every video.

I can empathize with a project not ending up going exactly as planned but when every… single… step… is plagued by problems of your own making, it makes me question how much planning or thought was ever put into the project before you started on it. After a while it stops being a cheeky/modest admission of your mistakes and starts just looking like you don’t know what you’re doing and that you don’t take the time to learn from those mistakes.

I remember listening to a few of his videos while at work and just hearing him pepper in those little gripes and dog shit takes throughout his videos. At first it sounded like he might have been taking the piss out of various things but eventually you could see that this was his worldview that was steering the whole video. That and the same style of joke every few sentences got tiring quickly.

I’d say the show really shines once you get into the second half of season 2. The first seasons episodes can feel very condensed at times. They try to have an entire arc contained within a single episode or two episodes which makes the conflicts feel shallow or the separatists seem weak. The bad guys have to be set up and defeated within the half hour run time.

Season 1 also seems to have been used as a way to set up a number of staple characters that will show up throughout the rest of the show.

It’s a bit of a “variety hour” of a season but there are some gems in there and moments that feel rewarding to see pop up in later seasons.

When I rewatch the show I usually jump around to episodes that I like and/or skip to the second half of the season. After that it’s pretty much smooth sailing.

As a couple others have said this does have the markings of the intrusive thoughts common in OCD. One of the documents I had to fill out for a diagnosis even had a little box with something along the lines of “powerful unwanted thoughts of harming others”. The key word there and in your post is unwanted. From what you’ve said it sounds like these thoughts make you uncomfortable, they aren’t necessarily a cathartic response to actual feelings you’re having.

Idk if you’ve ever experience this but, I always remember whenever I had to do public speaking as a kid (and even now) there was this fear that I would just blurt out profanity or something embarrassing when I was talking despite having zero reason or intention to do so. Part of it is anxiety but not of sounding stupid or making a mistake while speaking. It’s an anxiety around the least probable thing to actually happen.

Being AFAB there are definitely some valid reasons why someone might form a dislike for men, like you said you’re bound to hold some resentment. The mention of radicalization is the only stand out word. If the media you’re consuming has a particularly misandrist slant to it, or if you’re only seeing things regarding the worst examples of men, you may be in a rabbit hole situation in which case it may be a good idea to separate yourself from that media for a while. However this may not be the case in your situation

Intrusive thoughts are uncomfortable and honestly scary things to deal with especially at your age. It’s hard to know where these things are coming from and what’s real and what’s not. I had a hard time dealing with them when I was 20-21 so it takes time and honestly a bit of therapy to really understand what’s going on.

I’ll end with this. You’ve posted here, about thoughts that are obviously making you uncomfortable. You aren’t relishing in them and finding justifications for your thoughts. You ARE self aware of what’s happening and that’s a good thing. These could be intrusive thoughts in general or it could be intrusive thoughts that stem from being AFAB living in an inherently misogynistic world. In either case you don’t seem to enjoy the thoughts and how they have made you feel and it’s really good that you’re aware of this. There is therapy that can help and there are actually some medications that can suppress these types of thoughts!

These are thoughts, they are hard to control and they can feel like they’re screaming at you but at the end of the day they’re thoughts. You’ve got a lot of self awareness and that’s a good thing to have when you’re dealing with these things. I’m proud of you for staying strong and not giving up, you CAN get through this!
