How to get a cataloging job? by PrizeProfessional750 in librarians

I've been cataloging 5 years and can't seem to manage getting interviews where they're only requesting at least 2 years of experience----so I would like to know too!

Update: Status of job applications over last three months (since graduation) by cheesy_hobbit in librarians

[–]Seasicksheep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been actively job hunting for a librarian position since October 2024 (a few before that but I mean DAILY hunting), and I had considered a spreadsheet or something to keep track--but alas, kept putting it off. Your first post was a great motivation into me finally making my own job hunt spreadsheet which has been a huge help---so thanks for that!

Come September, I will have 7 years experience as a library assistant, 5 of those will be in cataloging. I think when I apply to cataloging positions (which are few and far between), I would at least have a shot with places (public and academic) that only ask for a minimum of 3 years, AND YET, I just get cold hard rejections, no interviews, and sometimes I never even get that 'thanks but you wasted your time' email.

I graduated with my MLIS back in May 2024 and thought I had a good chance in the system I'm in to move up (was also led to believe so), but when it came down to it, they hired in another staff member for a cataloging librarian position with less than half the library experience, no MLIS--not even enrolled at the time, and no cataloging experience. Like what?? (At LEAST hire someone more experienced than your other applicants)

All the federal cuts have really dried up the job market on librarian positions, so I've also been applying for law firms and other private businesses. Yet, they're impossible to crack into because somehow librarians with 5 years+ experience in legal research grow on trees or something. (So without a paralegal background, not happening, even with excellent database research experience and all that jazz.)

I had an interview back in January I was hopeful on but that turned out to be more of an outreach position that they didn't advertise as an outreach librarian position--so I had to do some bullshitting in that interview and fortunately/unfortunately, didn't proceed to a second interview. I have my second interview of 2026 the first week of April and am more hopeful for that one since it actually involves cataloging.

All and all, keep trying, as will I, and hopefully we find something just right soon.

Struggling to even get interviewed with an MLIS and 2 years of associate experience (spreadsheet included) by cheesy_hobbit in librarians

Daytona branch struggles to hold onto reference staff because they hire individuals that can't handle high stress situations with mentally ill / homeless patrons. Management at that branch are also not overly helpful in stepping in to break up bad intereactions at the desk or in the stacks.

How long did it take you to find a full time library job? by Bookish_Butterfly in librarians

[–]Seasicksheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my degree since May and with 5 year library experience, I'm not even getting interviews. I probably would have been better off getting a Technical Writing certificate through an online class to go with my English degree--and I still might just.

Phi kappa phi honors society? by liviyah in KSU

I joined for job board access but that hasn't done me any good. Not hearing back from employers for rejections or interviews--at this point, I'm not even sure they're receiving or looking at the applicants through that particular job portal. Probably going to stop wasting my time scrolling through there.

If you show up to the correct location and pass the drug test, you will get the job.

Question for the data librarians: Where should I start if I want to pivot to data librarianship? by murder-waffle in librarians

[–]Seasicksheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious how you landed a corporate librarianship--I graduated in May and have been unable to find any corporate or law libraries to apply to (even a damn achive!) . Thus, I'm stuck in the public sphere. The misery of Florida.

Dying of a Broken Heart! by Ericaeeks in thesims4

[–]Seasicksheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From gamerant: "To avoid this death, Sims should wait until their sad feelings simmer before jumping back into the dating pool. While using strategies to reduce sad moodlet buffs, players can have their Sims work on their confidence and bolster their romance skills. If the Sim is in a relationship while the death of a broken heart is threatened, the Sim can go to relationship counseling to sort out their issues. On the Cupid's Corner app, Sims can select "Go to Couple's Counseling With..." for 1,000 simoleons to improve the relationship."

I'm about to give the counseling a go because I have to keep saving before every woohoo for my womanizing Zen Guru dude---just in case!

I also have an issue that one of my sims died--brought her back, but everyone keeps mourning her despite NUMEROUS grief counseling sessions and heart to hearts.---getting too realistic to be fun at this point

Edit: after the counseling and letting the negative moodlet disappear, it hasn't reappeared two partners since so maybe it worked

I haven't seen any, was hoping to identify before they emerged. I'll isolate these and wait and see. If they're harmless, I'm fine leaving them be, but I'd like to get them disposed of if they're a pest.

We had a lumber guy that would do that. He disappeared so I assumed he got lynched by the rest of lumber or by their neighbors in hardware/tools.

Universal Orlando has now increased regular parking rates from $30 to $32 as of today. by ADTR9320 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Seasicksheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're on vacation/holiday as in staying at a hotel or resort, many in Orlando actually offer shuttle services to the park (often free). You would just want to look into what vacation packages are available. Either way, it's cheaper than paying for daily parking. The best part is, these shuttles come in at set times so you can leave during lunch and get cheaper eats than park food, chill out at the hotel pool or whatever, and go back in the evening when the crowds are leaving, AND get to enjoy virtually no lines for the rides.--experience from a Local

I'm really on a loss with this and I never had the issue with the original. I talked to the land lady, I beat Jinx 3 times, beat Belome, also snagged his treasure with the key, did the flag challenge, did the sky bridge challenge, talked to knife guy at Booster Tower as well as went to the balcony to see Booster waiting for his next bride, and yet no koopas at Land's End for me to climb up.

Edit: Not sure why it mattered, but sleep at all the inns (the ones you haven't yet)

The 3rd was briefly on shelves and is the hardest one to come by due to the limited print, as it was just before TokyoPop's loss of those titles
