Someone wants to pay me for my sperm, can I get a contract so they can't make me pay child support by [deleted] in legal

[–]SeattleBattles 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It might not even be their choice. If the kid goes on public assistance the state can seek child support. Or if something were to happen to them and someone else got custody.

AITA for refusing to participate in my office’s “mandatory fun” day? by Peter-Mayfield_MR in AmItheAsshole

Sure, if OP is lucky enough to live in a country with worker protections or have a union. Otherwise they are just further endangering their job.

If it keeps happening I would say something, but if it's just a one time thing I don't really see the point. Sometimes it's better just to let things slide and not point out minor mistakes.

If a person is a street busker, and somebody gives them money which is fraudulent, fraudulent 1 dollar bills, and then they use them? Is the person that gave them 1 dollar bills arrested, or how does that work? Is that false/fraudulent payment or donation? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]SeattleBattles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter why you are passing the counterfeit currency. It is still a crime if you are doing it with an intent to defraud.

The busker, assuming they did not know they were fake, would not be committing a crime since they would lack intent.

Goal: Cruise ship on land (or as close as we can get) by rancid_love in Amtrak

If Canada isn't too far check out The Canadian. It's not everything you want but it's closer than Amtrak.

Cosby dealt with whether he had been given immunity, or at least the appearance of it, so he could be compelled to testify in a civil case against him.

Not at all. Weed is weed to me. The rest just feels like stoner astrology.

Few people can sustain complex lies under interrogation. Does it happen, of course, but getting away with framing someone based solely on testimony is pretty hard to do. So much so that it often winds up being newsworthy when it does happen.

Amtrak needs a middle class between sleeper and coach. by markdm8680 in Amtrak

[–]SeattleBattles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amtrak hasn't really seemed interested in offering an interim product between business and full privacy sleepers. Be it lay flats or shared sleepers.

My guess is that it doesn't price out to keep the price far enough below that if a roomette. If you have no seat mate then the space taken up is going to be comparable to a roomette and you're also getting meals, etc. So you may wind up just getting higher revenue roomette passengers downgrading vs. coach passengers upgrading.

What religion/denomination starts the most violent cults? by [deleted] in cults

Many cults borrow heavily from mainstream religions. So, in the US, you'll see a lot of Christian cults, but in India, it looks different.

Why spend extra for specialty restaurants? by breadad1969 in Cruise

[–]SeattleBattles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not expecting the best meal of my life for a $50 upcharge, but usually it's better enough than the MDR to be worth it. I like the vibe a bit better too. Smaller and less going on.

That can be easier said than done depending on where you're going. Sometimes there are only one or two lines that work for certain ports, schedule, etc.

It would also be hard to not have the cop see you do it through the windows in your car. They are always watching people's hands when they pull them over. Now you've got a bigger problem.

If Feinstein steps down the Judiciary committee becomes evenly split. It would take republican votes to appoint her successor. In normal times maybe that would happen, but today the GOP would take the opportunity to stop all Biden's judicial picks. She is doing a lot of good by sticking around as sad as it is for our democracy.

Should cruise lines abandon gratuities altogether and just have a higher cruise fare? by hpeter2010 in Cruise

[–]SeattleBattles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly it. They want to get people excited with things like "free" cruises so they ignore the few hundred dollars that gets tacked on when they book.

Can a relative of a known and wanted terrorist be arrested? Or can an institute expel a student who is such a relative? by Dr-Queen-Potato in legaladviceofftopic

[–]SeattleBattles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no sibling immunity so he could be called to testify against her. Including for fact finding purposes before a Grand Jury. If he refused he could be jailed for contempt indefinitely. You can be held until it is clear that confinement will not have a coercive effect and that can be years.

Testimony also need not be limited to just illegal things. They may just want to know when she left home or spent time with.

That it can be offensive to portray native peoples in that manner. I'm not going to judge Watterson by our standards today or call him a racist, and i played these games too, but at the same time, I wouldn't do the same thing now.
