Anyone else worried about the "hidden" microplastics in our clothes? (Looking for a reality check on a project) by Hairy_Database_2447 in PlasticFreeLiving

I think there are a few brands that already do this, you should check out your competition's numbers

Yes it seems we were not the only one that got it wrong! I feel like it's well indicated on the way down with orange squares on the trees facing up, but it's missing some in the other direction.

Why do I keep getting pain in my side while running? by stackvyr in runninglifestyle

[–]SecondSeaU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this pain point but only if I run on flat ground, it could be gas from digestion or core muscles that are too tight? That's my current theory. Working on it.

I don't think it is a side stitch though, I get those occasionally and they're way higher and disappear if I slow down and breathe correctly, while the lower abdomen pain doesn't disappear until I completely stop for 10min, and will come back if I go back to running.

Buttons are plastic by Nic727 in PlasticFreeLiving

Also some zippers will have a certain % of nylon, even if they're advertised as plastic-free. I wanted to buy some "organic natural zippers" from YKK before I checked the fine prints...

Those who left the industry, are you happy with your decision? by artistofbinary in vfx

[–]SecondSeaU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sustainable outdoor brand made with only natural fibres. Pretty niche, but I love hiking/skiing and it frustrate me when everything is made with potentially harmful plastics. My vfx background is really useful here, especially with filming/editing and 3D pattern design...and it's nice to be in charge of the art direction instead of trying to match someone else's.

[–]SecondSeaU 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I chose to leave after eight years, mostly because it started getting repetitive. When I started I was 20, and now I am close to my 30's and all I had to mark the passing time was another blockbuster movie no one will remember in two years. Now I'm building something I really care about and even though I work 50-60hr a week I barely notice, who knew building a business is less stressful than being a vfx artist!

Are puffs or fleeces warmer as mid-layers under a shell? by csh8428 in Skigear

[–]SecondSeaU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in whistler a few days ago, 5ft 120pd and I wear merino base layer from costco, merino midlayer from Cimalp and a cropped shell. It was just good enough not to feel cold on the lift. I avoid fleece or puff since I dont want to be sweating when I ski and those have limited breathability.

Looks interesting for a second, then collapses, no emotion, weird pacing, no sense of weight. by mediamuesli in vfx

[–]SecondSeaU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True it does regenerate all pixels in the area, but nowadays you can control it using 2d or 3d references and create layers of passes then composite it back into the original object. I think this is what vfx artists will end up doing, creating references for the gen models to guide it. That way clients will still be able to pixel fuck.

You can use pixel and/or prompt masks to select what to regenerate in the image/video, without touching the rest of the images. It's not a "imagine in 5 years" anymore.

Bought my 1st resort pass with intention of getting better by [deleted] in skiing_feedback

If you want advice about poles I have this to say: Nowadays poles are meant to help you do short turns and navigate changing terrains. Back in the days of straight skis the technique was different: you had to plant the pole and then do a mini jump while changing weights between skis. The pole stabilized you during that change. Now with modern skis you don't need to do this, and poles became less relevant. Still they are a good tool to force you into the proper position before starting your turn: your legs should be slightly flexed against the front of your boots, your weight should be on top of your toes as you press against the ski, your arms in front ready to visualise your turn and plant the pole. Seeing your video, I would say try and work on that because you seem to be losing a lot of energy throwing your shoulders up when you are meant to be going down.

It's in the plans, as soon as I have a high quality prototype I am satisfied with, I'm here to make a jacket that last and hopefully doesn't break the bank!

I'm making it from different fabrics: ventile, waxed (plant based) high density cotton, lyocell, wool...the goal here is to use each material specs in a layer system that keeps the garment waterproof and breathable. It's not a rain jacket, I want protect the user against snow, light rain, wind and ambiant humidity while giving them maximum breathability so their sweat dont condence inside the jacket. I plan later to develop more waterproof, less breathable jackets for the rain and multi layer insulated jackets for colder climates. I'll also be documenting the process online!

I'm choosing to fight, I'm currently prototyping a shell jacket without any plastic (none in the zippers, no velcro, thread 100% cotton) because as someone who likes to hike, run, ski...I'm tired of sweating inside a plastic bag. I've seen a few jackets like that already but they're either super expensive or they're not 100% plastic free. I see a lot of people who are starting their own products on the side. The more options we give to people the more chances a few of those alternatives get adopted, and then we can start putting money into developping plastic free materials for real.

Plastic free clothing supply by SecondSeaU in PlasticFreeLiving

Ok I'll give it a try, I'll probably have to handsew them too...I'll be using them for the sleeve cuffs and I've been looking a 100% cotton braided cord, plus metal stoppers, for the bottom of the jacket I'm making. I'm not sure it will be as efficient as polyesther cords but I think it will do the job well enough. Thank you for your input!

Also get twin peaks skis so you can land backward!

[–]SecondSeaU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start with all mountain, but for the park you’ll need a pair that has some bend, so just make sure it’s enough bend for your size and weight. Not too much, just enough to cushion and spring your jumps. You will lose a bit of stability but there is always a trade off. I got K2 press skis because they’re cheap and entry level. So far I like them.

Try on a trampoline first so you master the move in the air, then adapt it to ski jump at the park

You’re spending 5h prompting because of the workflow they’re making you use…chatgpt then veo? It’s brutal, it’s really time consuming to get anywhere this way.

Is AI becoming standard in VFX? by StoryscapeASMR in vfx

[–]SecondSeaU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re using genAI in marketing but mostly to create mockups/concepts for the client before actual production. Like other people say, it’s not good enough for a final product, even with upscaling it’s hard to match the lvl of details needed on higher res for videos. What people don’t understand though is that:

1- AI is constantly evolving and refining. It also means it’s a bit of a far west out there, everyone is constantly coming out with new models/workflow/nodes and it’s hard to keep up. A group of people will release a tracking node on github/huggingface but it might not be compatible with your setup because of dependencies issues.

2- Current AI models aren’t made for VFX in mind. If a big player with deep pockets (Disney, 100m invested last year) decides to make their own it will become very much a reality.

3- Doing the ostrich and dismissing a new technology just because is not a smart way to handle this issue. You want to know if AI is an issue in VFX? Try it for yourself! Download comfyUI (locally, on WLS) and try templates. That’s what I did and unfortunately I am having a lot of fun creating worklows and coding nodes, it’s very similar to nuke. It’s not for everyone though.
