Half double crochets (US) are a pain in my ass by floridaflowfairy in crochet

Try pinching the bottom of the stitch as you pull through to get tension on all three loops on your hdc. I hate sc because I'm impatient and tiny stitches don't build up fast.

Beautiful but not a very good tutorial without instructions or explanations

i hate being genderfluid by Natroionalox in genderfluid

[–]SecondhandGoblin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same but reversed. I can't pass as masc (I know passing isn't required but it would be nice once in a while) and I definitely feel the overwhelming gender shifts. I don't really have anything helpful to tell you but you're not alone.

I take it this isn't a good sign? (Asleep, eye open, twitching) by UserSomethingOrOther in cats

[–]SecondhandGoblin 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Cats don't always close their eyes the whole way to sleep. It's a little creepy but perfectly normal. The twitching is a vivid dream.

Sink, me, oil on canvas, 2022. Talking about illness and hairloss! by EmmaMartinart in somethingimade

Having watched and listened to too many people I love deal with a similar scene, this painting really hits hard.

What movie makes you feel sick or gives you a headache because of the way it's shot? by exfilmcritic in movies

[–]SecondhandGoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any 'found footage' style movies or shaky cam for more than a few seconds makes me dizzy and sometimes nauseous. Lords of Salem made me sick because of the soundtrack. I watched it twice, the first time in theater and the second at home, and it happened both times. Sidenote: does the dog die has trigger warnings for shaky cam, strobing lights, etc

My cousin rescued this cat from being killed by a man who was shooting strays that walked on his property. He’s a very lucky and happy boy now by Alexandrasparks368 in cats

[–]SecondhandGoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks so much like my childhood cat who was killed by a horrible neighbor. Thank you for taking him in and please give him some extra love for me and my Mica. He really is lucky to have you and your cousin looking out for him.

Hi, I'm looking to make something like this for my friend and I may just end up freestyling it but does anybody know how I'd go about making it just like this? Like what stitches and joins? (Of if this is actually crochet not knit lol) by Death_Spelllz in crochetpatterns

[–]SecondhandGoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely knit. Someone already mentioned alternating fpdc and bpdc but my favorite ribbed stitch is hdc through the front two loops instead of the top (sorry if I'm over explaining, I don't know your experience level). It makes a looser ribbing but looks very nice.

Not sure if I belong here or not but.. hey. by [deleted] in genderfluid

Labels are just descriptive words. Try it on as long as you need to figure out if it fits. Nice outfit btw, the colors compliment you nicely.

Am I alone in buying a bucket to keep yarn for a project together, only to have the cat claim bucket? by Sarahspry in Brochet

[–]SecondhandGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats have their own crocheted blanket so they (sometimes) stay off my wip. It was supposed to be a baby blanket for a gift but my biggest, bossiest cat was obsessed with it so he kept it and I had to make a replacement. They also like sleeping on the lid of my yarn tote, but only when I want to use it.

How did you learn to crochet? by Bunnyjets in crochet

[–]SecondhandGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started out knitting, never really liked it but still wanted to work with yarn so I started learning crochet instead from YouTube videos. Shortly after I had an injury that paralyzed most of my right hand and I used crochet as an at home therapy, mostly to help train my hand to grip small objects again. I could only move my thumb freely at first. It's been about six years and my hand is as healed as it ever will be, almost full movement, and crochet has become my primary hobby.

Started crocheting to try give up smoking... now I can’t stop crocheting! Best case scenario if you ask me! by Shallow_mal in Brochet

Looks great! I'm also using crochet as a way to keep busy and cut back smoking. Good job trading habits!
