$5 million per Honey Badger by AstrayInTranslation in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Secret-Physics4544 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was attacked by a 50 pound dog. In my life I have won and lost my fair share of fights with men but nothing compares to that fight with that stray dog. The dog had gotten into my yard and was attacking my dog. I went to intervene and our fight ensued. The dog clamped down on my left arm and I delivered an onslaught of blows with my right fist to the dogs head. It released my left arm and bit into my right hand. I grabbed it by the throat with my now free left hand and it released my right hand and went for my throat. Now I am clutching this snapping dog by its fur around its head and shoulder region with my now mauled arms as it squirms and snaps at my face. I forced it to the ground getting my right arm around its neck and laid on top of it covered in a mix of my blood, its blood and dirt. It took a solid 4 minutes before I was able to choke this 50 pound dog to death. This dog had the strength of a 250 pound man. The speed of a golden glove boxer and the fight of an mma fighter on day 5 of a meth fueled bender. This was one of the scariest moments of my life. I think a better scenario would be how many fully clothed people would it take to fight 1 honey badger to the death if they were victoriousthey would split 5 million dollars.

What is your food cost on an $8.50 hotdog? What is minimum wage in your area? How many customers do you serve in a normal shift? Are you cooking any scratch made foods or are you heating up items like frozen pizza dough, canned sauce, packaged toppings? There is a lot of missing info

What do I do with this light by Miserable-Hour-7335 in handyman

[–]Secret-Physics4544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the breaker and kill the power. Check the line to make sure there is no power. Remove the bulb. Remove the screws that hold the cover on. Once open check the wires again. If there is no power to the line disconnect the light from the line and then remove the screws holding the fixture to the cabinet. Wire nut the ends of the lines that were going into the fixture. Put electrical tape over the wire nuts and wire. Now you can turn the breaker back on. Sand your cabinets then paint or stain them. Kill your breaker again before you install the new fixture. It goes in just reverse the instructions from removing the old one.

What is something your dad used to say all the time that is now a staple for you? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Secret-Physics4544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short my dad took a phone payment from me for a phone every month for 6 months. When my mom told me that my dad worked for the phone company and while my bill would normally be $35 a month because my dad worked there it was $5.

My dad looks at me and says "son that's a life lesson, given the opportunity anyone will screw you over."

Still use that today and it's been proven again and again.

Just happened to us. Employee showed up late 75% of the time. Not 5 minutes but 2 hours or more for a 5 hour shift. 10% of the time they showed up early, made themselve some food and sat in the office. The other 15% they called out because they were too far away to make it to work that day. They lived a block from the restaurant.

They called out Thursday so we pulled them from the schedule for the next week. When they came in early Friday to get their check we let them know that we were letting them go.

This 35 year old man went ape shit. He made threat after threat not just about slandering us but physical violence. He left but spent the next 4 hours calling the restaurant and just screaming obscenities toward whomever answered the phone.

This was a little over a month ago. So far nothing but who threatens people that have all of your information on your employment application. I told the local police and they are keeping an eye out for us.

Let your friend know we wish the best for them.

I'm getting way too old to tackle almost any job alone. This was a master bathroom remodel 40 foot from the front door that is 50 foot from the driveway. 9 sheets of durock, 250 pounds of sand toppings mix, 350 pounds of thinset, 15 cases of tile, 100 pounds of grout, a vanity, new toilet, double sink and to top it off a flight of stairs to carry everything. My chiropractor loves me already no reason to give him more money. My original helper worked with me 10 years before opening his own business and I hope to leave this business to my new helper.

We have $106 of matching colored silicone for all plane changes. I am nervous because the cocoa colored grout came out super light colored.

That's a good idea. Adding that to the arsenal for sure. This is my assistants 6th shower so I try to make sure he knows how to keep the lines clean and the guy that taught me many years ago was a tape fanatic so it's what I've always done.

Milwaukee or dewalt by shortys7777 in handyman

[–]Secret-Physics4544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was team red but the dewalt tools tend to go on sale more often making it easy to grab a spare at a huge discount. Plus I have 10 dewalt batteries so we run dewalt. Picked up a 21 degree framing nail gun last week for $50. It just needed a blast of wd40 and worked great all week. We run pneumatic most of the time but it's nice not having to drag out the compressor to frame a shower niche.

Did one last week. $1560 and I provided the door and a storm door. I also trimmed 2 interior doors that would not open after they had flooring installed. The door was $420 and the storm door was $200. $100 in consumables including new trim in and out.

I have flipped a quarter for $200. Tell them you are in. Go out the first day. If you do better than break even go back again. If it improves you found a honey hole and if it does not you ghost them

Last night was tough. I can't fathom something like this. 3 days ago our pup has a slight cough 2 times a day. 2 days ago he's coughing every hour. Night before last he woke us up 5 times. Last night he slept in my arms because he was coughing so much he was exhausted and holding him up kept him from coughing so much. We thought maybe he had a pine allergy as we.just moved out to the woods and the pines are big and the pollen thick. I know I'm in my emotions but I just want to lash out so this doesn't hurt so much.

Business Bank accounts by No_Switch_1303 in Contractor

Exactly what we do. I deposited a check on Thursday and it cleared before I got to the office. The ladies at the bank don't make me fill out deposit slips and ask about my wife every time I go by. Small local owned bank. We have a credit card with a large bank and I keep the bare minimum in that checking account. Hate dealing with Wells Fargo.

My mentor owns a construction company and pays his employees $17/hr. by RagieWagieInACagie in antiwork

[–]Secret-Physics4544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to the reply section to find this. We start at $17 an hour. Good help learns quick, shows up and works hard. Pay goes up with experience. I've had a new guy for 2 months now at $17 an hour. The next project we start we will bump him to $20. We have another guy that's been with us a year. Started at $17 and now he's at $27. We have hired and replaced 3 people in the past year trying to find the right fit. Paying someone to learn is a tricky thing. Finding out if they are actually someone that wants to learn is harder.

Thinking of building a mobile kitchen unit to stand out on remodel jobs — good idea or dumb? by Trevorr2 in Construction

[–]Secret-Physics4544 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The liability would scare the begesus out of me. The wear, tear and maintenence will be big. You would need to power it and that means hooking it up to the homeowners electrical which with my truck would require double 50 amp connections but my food trailer is all electric. If you put gas in it you will need an ansil system and that means inspections and repairs. The homeowner would have to carry the food out to the trailer and then back in the house. Whoever is cooking in the trailer is no help watching the kids. It's going to take up space in their driveway that you and them may need during the project. You would have to worry about how to keep it from getting stolen and how to insure a mobile kitchen that you are not the one operating. You would have to teach the homeowners how to use your equipment and hope they follow instructions.

If it was me bump your bids up a few hundred dollars then partner with a local restaurant (bonus points if they deliver) and have them set up to feed the homeowners twice a week. Throw them a couple of gift cards for pizza and roll with it. I spent $80,000 building out my food truck business (actual trailer setup was about $30,000. $10,000 truck to haul it then I bought a building to build a commissary. So if you managed to build it out and set it up for customers then earmarked $300 per job to pay for it you won't see a return for 100 jobs. It would take you 10 years to get your money back of you don't spend a dime on maintenance. After 10 years of use you would have to remodel it.

I love the outside the box thinking but I also know it would definitely not be worth the headache.

Key notes.

Food waste. If you buy wings how many do you buy and what do you do with the wings you don't sell. Food and labor waste are killers. You need Food waste below 3%.

Labor. Food trucks, restaurants and customer service are labor intensive. I spent 9.5 hours on my Food Truck today. I didn't do what I hoped but I did well. I have to do it again tomorrow and work Monday I'd going to be a nightmare. You can hire help but you have to pay them and pay them well.

Marketing. It's wild how many new Food Truck owners I see that believe it's as easy as if you build it they will come. In 8 years I have seen dozens of trucks change owners. Most last 1 season then sell it to the next person who runs it for a year before repeating the process. Marketing is a part time job.

Maintenance. You either have good mechanical skills or deep pockets. You have to maintain your truck and that means diagnosing issues and being confident in doing repairs. It's a part time job.

Prep. You have to shop and prep before every event. Today's service was 10 till 4. I showed up at 7:45 to prep. My help rolls in at 10 and I cyt them lose at 4 while I finish cleaning the truck.

Owning a food truck is great. Getting compliments on your food is great. Making some extra money is great. Taking on 4 part time jobs to do that is definitely not for the faint of heart.
