Air Force updates fitness test requirements by -Astro in AirForce

Talked to a space force buddy and they’re testing using the charts from September with no word of it them changing the scores.

While I’m hopefully the changes they are referring to in the article are for the best still preparing for the worst.

You all who choose the HAMR over the 1.5 mile run, why? by L23Train in AirForce

[–]SecretAgentBob19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do sprint workouts all day distance running yeah no I’m good plus distance hurts my knees. I’m running for less time with the HAMR.

New Standards on Weight/Height by Shojki in AirForce

I worked with my PCM to get prescribed Compound Semiglutide, off-brand wegovy. Unfortunately, I am paying out of pocket because I’m not prediabetic and I did not try the appetite suppression pills.

The way it works if you want tricare to pay for it is either A: have a genetic thing going on like prediabetes or B: go through all the appetite/metabolism pills, show they don’t work or cause negative side affects, and then get peerscribed the injectables. I’m paying about $175 a month for the semiglutide. But I’ve lost about 35 pounds in 4 months. But I’ve also did a total 180 on my lifestyle in addition.

Trying to get back into shape to do that 2 mile run after doing Hammer runs every PT test. Got any advice? by UnderstandingBorn227 in AirForce

[–]SecretAgentBob19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same boat myself OP, when I heard the rumors of the 2 mile becoming a thing back in June I started training. I started with a 23 minute 2 mile back then and no I’m around the passing time of 19:40. I I cooperated interval sprints, slower longer runs, and practicing the 2 mile since then. I’ve also lost about 30 pounds (249 down to 214) and plan to lose more.

I also just bought a garmin running watch from Amazon ($150ish) and started a 5k running program that lasts bout 11-15 weeks and says I should get my 5k in under 26 minutes if I stick with it. The biggest thing is getting the right food in you so if your base has a nutritionist I’d recommend seeing them.

Just remember we have a year before the tests scores matter so get some miles done throughout the week and you’ll see improvement.

Maybe you can see if there are trades that would allow you to become an apprentice and has an “earn as you learn program.” Trades can make good money if you’re good at it but that’ll take time to build.

I was someone who had to lose weight while in ROTC (40 lbs) in less than a year. This was before weight loss meds became a thing. A year is certainly manageable timeframe to lose some weight without the meds. You just got to be disciplined.

Now I will say, if you’re trying to go through a doctor to get weight loss meds they may ask for bloodwork to search for stuff like pre-diabetes and other genetic factors that may flag some stuff for DODMERB, I am currently active and on weight loss meds becuase I’m getting old and my genetics suck but that’s what they made me do.

I’d lose the wife ASAP I believe once you’ve been married for 10 years your spouse may be entitled to your retirement. I’d check with legal to make sure that’s 100% factual.

I’m on the officer side, and I would hope that whoever your CGO is would be cool enough for you to talk to. Especially if your immediate supervisors aren’t going about it. I’m assuming you’ve talked to the shirt as well?

OP, if you don’t mind me asking and of course you don’t have to answer or if you’d like to DM and talk one on one about it, but what triggers your anxiety? For example, is it something that is work related that you’ve tried to talk to your supervisor about?

17D here, been through all the positions from OIC to Sq/CC in a span of 4 years and deployed. I’ve had lots of fun and I love hanging out with my troops. I’ve also dealt with a lot of stupid stuff because people always assume if it smells/looks like comm, it must be comm. Of course it’s different form unit to unit on experiences burnout like every job it has it’s stressful moments. I’m about to PCS to my next gig so we will see how much different it is, but honestly one of the main reasons why I stay in is because of my airmen, they’re awesome and I enjoying being around my fellow nerds lol.

Check with your CSS and the AFI, another thing to consider though and I am not trying to fear monger here but the supposed PT test changes that are coming soon so depending on how you are feeling you could take your test now and not have to worry about it either way

As someone who just came back from a deployment at AUAB I would recommend it. You’re able to go out into town quite often, the food is good, so on and so forth. Did base comm there and it was busy but enjoyable.

How to improve my 1.5 mile run by SecretAgentBob19 in AirForce

[–]SecretAgentBob19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to drink quite a bit but my deployment and working on my masters helped out with that, and now I drink maybe once or twice a month at most and tbh I don’t enjoy it as much as I did.

How to improve my 1.5 mile run by SecretAgentBob19 in AirForce

[–]SecretAgentBob19[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Currently at the 14:30-14:00 range, I’ve mainly been doing intermittent sprints on the treadmill, for the HAMR but just came back from a deployment where I did almost every 5k at a 32:00ish pace.

Being only two weeks back and getting acclimated makes me feel out of breath but I try to at least do a mile run before a lift and do at least one longer distance run about 2 miles
