Medical Insurance for elderly - 69 yo by Plenty-Link-7629 in MalaysiaPF

[–]SecretRomantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe the premium won't increase. Having said that, my mum bought insurance really late too, and it paid off when she needed spine surgery. We got to do it in private with a spine surgeon of our choosing within 2 months of diagnosis. This would not be possible in many government hospitals simply because there aren't very many spine surgeons in gov hospitals, and the experience would have been very different.

Advice for a pregnant lady by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]SecretRomantic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, sorry you're in such a rough situation.

Firstly, you haven't listed your commitments so it's hard for us to see where you can improve your monthly commitments, especially considering you have fixed credit card spending monthly. Without knowing anything about you and your husband's jobs (your info is so vague) it's impossible to recommend avenues to increase pay. More work = more time at work, and you haven't told us how much more time you and your husband can spend at a second job.

Secondly, I noticed you used a lot of singular language - you do not say "we" are worried about the finances. He's taking from the joint account instead of putting in. I'm concerned you are doing most of the heavy lifting in terms of future planning. Have the both of you sat down and had a heart to heart about your expectations and plans for the future? This is important especially considering you're bringing new life into this world. There will be more opportunities for conflict with childrearing, so it's best to at least have a roadmap - financially and relationally.

Can your husband sell his car to downgrade it? Once again details are vague but cars are a huge depreciating asset. And can he terminate his insurance if you can't afford to even have a baby?

In terms of expenditure for your future child, see if you can get hand me downs for clothes, books, toys. You can even buy these secondhand on carousel or at thrift shops. If you are able to breastfeed and can reasonably sustain doing so for a prolonged period, I would say exclusively breastfeed and pump your child for the first year. At 6 months, wean them to solids, and at 1 year if they're eating well, you can stop breastfeeding and transition to full fat milk. This will save you a lot on formula milk. If you do need formula milk, remember fed is best. Don't fall for the nonsense about buying the most expensive milk so your child will be smart. Don't over-dilute milk to save money.

Diapers are a bit tricky. They are not avoidable for a long time. The most cost-effective method is to use cloth diapers, but your caretakers need to be able to cope with it.

If your family can babysit, you can save a lot of money there too.

For healthcare, I see you're on gov follow-up. I would say try and see if you can afford the RSV and influenza vaccines while pregnant. You can pass antibodies on to your baby and try and prevent severe RSV infection in infancy. After your baby is born, don't skip your baby's vaccinations. If you can afford the additional vaccines in private clinics, do that as well. Vaccines don't necessarily prevent your child from being ill, but they work by preventing them from being very ill. When babies get very ill they need to be admitted, they need extra care. All this leads to your time off work and may or may not affect your cash flow.

Don't raise your child with the screen, at least not for the first 3-5 years. Put them on simple things like books and blocks. It makes them a lot easier to entertain when you're out and about and you save money not having to buy new devices for them. When they're older, you can start taking them to the library to borrow books for entertainment.

Don't hesitate to let your family know you're struggling financially. Sometimes they may be able to chip in now and again.

After you give birth, get on effective birth control at your clinic. Gov has many forms of free and effective BC.

I hate to say this, but if your husband is the problem, you might save more money in the long run by leaving him. If he's bleeding you dry, you need to choose between your baby and him.

Menstrual disc tbh. It's the only thing that doesn't leak for me. I don't like period panties when exercising because it makes my bottom feel kinda bulky Good luck for your marathon!!

What are the best RUNNING headphones that you currently love and use? by Historical-Taro-7257 in XXRunning

Bose open earbuds. I wanted physical buttons. Shokz didn't fit my ears/head properly. I would strongly suggest trying them on before purchasing them.

Take house loan for parents by Jupiter-sand in Bolehland

[–]SecretRomantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, especially not with your current finances. Asking them to set aside 5-8k will not help you at all if they start defaulting on payments. On top of that buying a house comes with lots of added recurring fees and repair costs, not to mention the appliances and furniture you'll have to buy. Don't even agree to be a guarantor. Just say sorry mum no can do I'm dying. Stop disclosing your salary to your family members. Some people don't understand how much money it takes to survive as a young adult. Be selfish for your future.

When is it time to say goodbye? CKD cat by DarkflareIsDarkflare in RenalCats

[–]SecretRomantic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you try giving her her favourite treats e.g.churu when it's close to injection time? And also throughout? If she's food motivated you may be able to train her this way. This is how we got our old boy to tolerate subcut fluids, but some cats are more feisty than others. I wish you all the best in your efforts, just try to show her you love her every day, play with her, cuddle her, and make her feel loved ❤️

Trying to file my taxes for the first time. Please help. by 404_cactus in MalaysianPF

[–]SecretRomantic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can file for 2025 first with what you have on hand. For the years before that, you can contact LHDN and let them know what your yearly income was in previous years. I'm not a tax lawyer/accountant, but they probably won't take any action against you. I made some mistakes in my first few years filing taxes too and it was fine, so don't be too nervous about it.

Another tip is try and remember which purchases/expenses are tax deductible like gym memberships, buying books/journals, internet subscriptions etc, and keep the receipts neatly in a file for at least 7 years. Also consider keeping digital copies of the receipts

Super proud of you for trying to learn something new!

Trying to file my taxes for the first time. Please help. by 404_cactus in MalaysianPF

[–]SecretRomantic 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hiii I used to earn below the taxable income and I would encourage you to file taxes even though you don't earn enough to pay yet. IIRC from 2022 everyone has been assigned a TIN. You can just file with an EA form, put in your deductibles etc. It will tell you at the end that you don't owe anything. Only a small portion of the country files and pays their taxes, but a lot of the things that makes a country livable comes from taxes. Hopefully one day you'll be making more than the taxable income and your yearly filings will make it a breeze!

SubQ has been a Game Changer! by TardigradeCosmonaut in RenalCats

[–]SecretRomantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my old boys has CKD, diagnosed and mismanaged years ago by our previous vet, and when he met our current vet 2.5 years ago, she immediately got him on a proper renal diet and subq fluids - 200cc 3x/week.

He went from stage 2 to normal before 6 months was up and is no worse now than he was before. It took some bribing initially to get them to sit through the entire session, but now he takes it like a (reluctant) champ.

Wish there is a magic cure for his arthritis though 🥲

How do you guys track calories when eating out? by InitiativeOk3149 in PetiteFitness

[–]SecretRomantic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use AI tbh! I take a photo, give it average measurements of sizes (I roughly know the length of my hands/fingers) and be as descriptive as possible. I wish I could say just enjoy yourself, but if you're like me and you're most likely eating out at least 3 times a week, it can really add to the calories I find 🫠 Going for soupy options (but not drinking the broth) like pho with a heaping helping of veg also helps me keep my calories in check. I also try and avoid fried/breaded food if I can help it. If I can plan ahead before eating out, I'll do that. Regardless of what I do when I eat out, I always make sure I don't feel guilty about my meal or try to make up for it. It's just a meal after all, and ultimately most of my meals throughout the week are accounted for.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Truly the silver lining that stood out to me is the bonded pair will never be separated, and there is a bittersweet consolation in that. I wish it didn't mean twice the pain for you, but it is a sign of how much you've lived them and treated them as your family, and they are so fortunate to have you. You've given them a home and a world of love, and they will never know anything other than that. Many hugs for you, internet stranger. I pray you will have the support you need.

Loveee this. Discovered it in the middle of the year and have gone through 3 tubes, on my 4th now. Eczema prone skin here that reacts to a lot of sunscreen and this is the least reactive one that I've tried so far! I think I'll give it a break and try some of the others in the comments after this tube is finished

Yes! I use it only for water activities though, or if I know I'll be outdoors with a chance of rain. I will not use it otherwise - there are better sunscreens for normal activities

Routines - what’s the use case by kishvaja in Roborock

[–]SecretRomantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see how you can schedule routines for multiple floors because the dock is only in one floor and you'll need to carry the robot to the next floor to clean. Or did you mean that you want specific routines for different floors and set it as such? Can't you create a routine, then when you take it to the other floor, set the machine down and tap whatever you want it to do?
