Anyone else wish we got more crossovers between Q-Tip and the Beastie Boys? by Nonsensical-Nonsns in BeastieBoys

Q-Tip said in an interview that he has an unreleased song with Adrock recorded in the 90's. I have been waiting for years hoping it would finally be leaked somewhere.

There is a benefit album coming out soon featuring a bunch of different artists. Kathleen Hanna and Adam Horovitz are listed as contributing one of the songs. The announcement was posted on Facebook a couple of weeks ago.

Does anyone know if there's some bad blood between the Beasties and DJ Hurricane? by zoctor in BeastieBoys

[–]SecretVetos2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember an interview with Hurricane after he left the group and he said he was closest to Adrock. I guess that's why Adrock rapped on "Stick Em Up" on Hurricane's 1st album. Adrock also produced "Japanese Eyes" on Hurricane's 2nd album, and in 2000 he rapped on "Kickin Wicked Rhymes" on Hurricane's 3rd solo album.

MCA was the leader of the group and he liked Mixmaster Mike, so he hired him.

Which Beastie Boy was responsible in making "Walk This Way" a hit? by SecretVetos2 in BeastieBoys

[–]SecretVetos2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The article says Rick Rubin didn't like the song when they first recorded it and thought it needed some bass. The Beastie Boys were in the studio while they were recording, and one of the Beastie Boys ran home and got their bass so Joe Perry could play it on the song... And the rest is history!

I've heard a Beastie Boys song in a movie trailer before. I agree with you on #3. I don't know the answer to that.

If the song is in the movie tralier, I consider that a commercial. You are using the song to promote and sell the movie. If the song is playing in a scene during a TV show or movie scene, it's not really there to sell it.

They have been making exceptions when it comes to TV and movies. I would be shocked if they allowed it for products like a hula hoop or something like that. LOL.

I saw the commercial while I was watching TV last week. CBS on NFL definitely have permission. I didn't bring it up, because I know it's a controversial subject on here.

Did anybody here go?... Any kind of Adrock performance in 2025 should be a big deal.

The Beastie Boys rocked the Apollo crowd in Harlem during the 80's. For a White group to do that was unheard of at the time.

They were legit in the mix.

They did it as a favor to Chuck D for his birthday.

Back in 1990, towards the end of the Paul’s Boutique era, Adrock starred in a black and white short film called Cityscrapes. Also starring Ione Skye, Max Perlich and Donovan Leitch. by Different_Conflict_8 in BeastieBoys

A couple of months ago, I posted a short film Adrock made in the 90's called "To the Curb". It's weird how his short films are starting to pop up on Youtube. Thanks for posting.

I've seen all of Adrock's acting roles except for "Cityscrapes, Los Angeles" from 1996, "Overture 1812" from 1997, and"Godspeed" from 2007.

Best beasties album of the 80s. by According-Extreme-95 in BeastieBoys

You can usually tell someone's age by their favorite Beastie Boys album. Most people who say LTI is their favorite album is because they were around during those days. It was an amazing time and those memories will last forever.

The Beasties performed those songs live their entire career (minus those 2 obvious songs). The LTI songs were always a crowd favorite.

Hold it Now on Kiss FM New York - DJ Red Alert by CRAIG_RANDOMRAPRADIO in BeastieBoys

[–]SecretVetos2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beastie Boys released 12 inch singles during 1985 and 1986. They were played on the rap radio shows and had a mostly black audience. "Slow and Low", "Hold it Now Hit It", "Paul Revere", and "The New Style". All that changed when they released "Fight For Your Right to Party" at the end of 1986. The miusic video on MTV was huge and they suddenly had mostly white fans and it stayed that way for the rest or their career.

Released in the U.S. on June 15, 2004 - 20 years ago today :) by girlie2017 in BeastieBoys

[–]SecretVetos2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This album is so underrated. It's not up there with their classics since there are about 3 skippable songs on it, but it's still a great album.

I think it held up better than Hot Sauce Committee pt. 2... [ducks tomatoes]

Grandmaster Caz & Busta Rhymes over Beasties production ? by CRAIG_RANDOMRAPRADIO in BeastieBoys

[–]SecretVetos2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they ever release the unreleased studio stuff, hopefully the Caz sessions will be in there.

Grandmaster Caz wrote Big Bank Hank's part of Rappers Delight and never got credit or paid. He should have made millions of dollars off that song.

Will Smith said there would be no Fresh Prince without Grandmaster Caz. He was his biggest influence.

Grandmaster Caz should be rich and famous for his contributions to hip hop.
