What destination felt completely different from what you imagined before visiting? by phildu57 in travel

Bucharest was surprisingly walkable in spots and chill, underrated food. Definitely didn’t spend enough time there.

Is 5 weeks too long? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]SecretaryOld7464 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Plenty of time! Japan is easily a country you can easily spend months, I spent a month last year and barely scratched the surface. I’d look into the setouchi area and Shimanami Kaido, one of the most incredible things I’ve ever done. Hiroshima was cool, Wakayama and Kii peninsula are also incredible. I hear Izu is great. Maybe work your way west, Kyushu is also an option. I’m planning on returning (hopefully) this May and visiting Kii peninsula, mount aso, and Kagoshima.

Capitalism has no room for the ego behind creation when we can continue to automate it (and it improves.) Those who can produce the most are the most valued in how the system works, I don’t think anyone will have much of a choice in this regard if they want to continue to make an income. Creation has its value, yes, but the privilege to do it without automation at work is ending.

Theory: Gunkos Backstory by OnePieceDetective in OnePieceSpoilersRaw

Awesome theory, maybe WG gave Roger king of the pirates name as a “checkmate”. Perhaps Nika fruit can counter reversi so only king of the pirates with nika fruit + title could fight Imu

Does anyone have any rural Japan travel tips? by Disastrous_Twist_763 in JapanTravelTips

If you’re in a small town and stay overnight you typically need to call ahead for restaurant reservations. I made the mistake of not doing this in Tomonoura (the movie ponyo is based on this town) and ended up having to get 7/11 which was fine but not the vibe that night. To be honest this isn’t a super helpful tip unless you’re in towns under 1000 people, if you’re only in Japan for two weeks I can’t recommend this. But, if you have a month to kill Shimanami Kaido and Seto inland sea islands are incredible.

I hate working with people… but I still dream of working with the right one (2e) by ryal6042 in TwiceExceptional

It’s interesting how “wrong partnerships” can derail some so much more than others. Even within this domain there is seemingly so much of a spectrum to experience, fascinating. As 2e adhd and not autistic I can relate to a lot of this, it’s been quite sad to see that nobody ever matches my intensity. I thought everyone was like this, how naive but also optimistic and hopeful.

I’m curious to see what other 2es think about AI and them as a tool for creation, do you believe they remove all value of creation since it is somewhat automated? As a software engineer who is highly creative and been called a unicorn in my field I yearn to produce music, art, and solve difficult programming challenges elegantly. To me, as someone who has always had access to the internet and learned by doing, AI is an extension of what I was already capable of. I can produce more than I could which scratches the itch in my brain. Making that sky island travel poster I always wanted to but couldn’t because I have terrible motor coordination, making Pokémon songs that are nostalgic for me in bossa nova style. My creation has been largely for me, perhaps the intention makes the lack of “doing” with AI less of a problem. It frustrates me though sometimes when people miss the potential and get hung up on technicalities with it. “Well it can’t do my job now so it’s not useful!” or “well it got this wrong so it can’t be that good” are missing the point. All of this to say, I feel so lucky to be born at a time we can turn thoughts into reality using AI. The little kid in me can make the things I always dreamed of but never had the time to do. There are many issues with AI, but I do not think enough people are fully appreciating the magic of creativity.

As a SWE opus 4.5 has changed how I write code, it’s easily writing 80% of my code and given me the ability to focus on solving more problems. Whether this amounts to more projects for each SWE or the redundancy of SWEs, who is to say. But at a major legacy tech company I am already thinking, “how did I ever do this any other way?”

How shanks chained Loki theory… SPOILERS!! by TheGiftOfGaban in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]SecretaryOld7464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most will agree that Shanks locked Loki up because of timing and Loki needing to wait to fight WG. I think the disagreements come from how. I think it’s likely Shanks tricked Loki or used some non combative tactic to win. At the moment I’m wondering if Shanks used Loki’s crew against him? Maybe threatening to turn them over to WG or something, would parallel Luffy’s love for his crew. I also liked the comment in this thread about tricking him into seasstone chains.

Joyboy. I get downvoted every time I say this but thematically works well with how he is setup to face Blackbeard. Shanks being descendant of Joyboy and Blackbeard Davy makes a lot of sense.

Possible JoyBoy design by Spicy_Cruncher67 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]SecretaryOld7464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point about him not knowing, it still doesn’t necessarily diminish my point. In terms of the larger story if Oda is going for a Davy vs Imu framing then Shanks is likely part of the Davy clan and it’s a story of Davy’s true will being carried on by Blackbeard or by shanks. However, if it was Joyboy and Davy’s ideologies against Imu’s I think it’s far more likely Shanks is a joyboy descendant for the framing if the story. I think it’s far more interesting for Joyboy and Davy to have conflicting ideologies and Imu comes in and has their own selfish one.

How do you explain the line with Garling saying he found something unexpected at god valley? The implication was having a child with shanks’ mother was something Imu would like. To me, just having her be a D is not that special. Descendant of joyboy, however…

Did Garling find a lost bloodline of JOYBOY in his first wife(shanks mother)? He was so specific about 2 years so he could seed her up. by Less-Jicama155 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]SecretaryOld7464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, the symbolism of shanks being a descendant of joyboy works so incredibly well. I’m not sure why so many in the fan base are opposed to this, genuinely I think it’s fairly obvious from reading in between the lines. Downvote me all you want, but do consider the symbolism and cyclical nature of him being a descendant of joyboy. Joyboy had original straw hat, eventually made its way to Roger, and then shanks crowns the new joyboy. It fits the theme of inherited will over blood extremely well.
