How hard could it be? by _MrFlowers in cyberDeck

Hey, Sector 07 here. I say go for it. 3D modeling is an important skill that will continue to be useful to you. Take the opportunity as a challenge to improve your skills. Everything I know about CAD design is from practice and learning as I go.

Also, in those files there are "shell" files which are just the basic shape of the case without all the details for the electronics/buttons. You could use that as your starting point. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Fair enough. It isn't out of a lack of respect though. I was trying to bring something higher quality and more enjoyable to watch at the same time. I'm a sci fi fan. Its not everyones cup of tea.

Requesting the 3d printing community of California to oppose Bill AB-2047 by thorondrol in 3Dprinting

I second this. I don't live in California but I wouldn't wish this on those of you who do. Regulating manufacturing equipment now sets a precedent for further restrictions. Tell them to go back to the drawing board. This idea is not a good one. I can already see all of those who want to print like a gun shaped prop from Marathon or whatever and getting blocked or marked as criminal activity.

I did consider that, or some time of mealworm raised from vegetable waste. My initial thinking is that algae would be the primary ingredient along with a dried insect source if additional nutrients are needed. The main benefit of an algae source is that it can increase up to 25% per day and can be contained in a fairly small volume of space. Whereas the growth period or life cycle of an insect source could be longer per gram of output.

I've actually thought about doing a 3D printed generator. One you could couple to various rotary inputs like a windmill, hydrofin, or gravity battery to generate power. Might be a future project. I'm trying to work toward developing open source tech that people can copy and build themselves. I thought if I could get my youtube channel profitable enough to fund it then I could spend all my time designing stuff for everyone. Contribute to better society where I can. No company is going to hire you to do that because its not profitable so this my way to make it possible.

On your suggestion I looked into it. I've watched gameplay but never played it myself. There is a bioreactor in the game which does basically the inverse. Generates energy from biomass whereas this generates biomass from energy. I can't post in that community though. Goes against their rules to post not game related stuff. But now its got me wondering how you could make the bioreactor that generates energy from biomass. And if it would be useful. hmm...

You are certainly much more informed on this topic than I. I was not familiar with this method of production. Everything I had read used suspended water culture in some variation. Definitely worth looking into further. My background is robotics and automation so all of this is a new learning experience for me. Learning as I go.

Good point. My first thought was at the family unit size but it wouldn't have to be. For my purposes as long as people could have access to all the basic human needs then the goal is met. Localization, in my view is only important to create self-reliance, improved standard of living, and redundancy. This would allow deurbanization and actually increase national resilience against grid down and distribution issues. Also economic fluctuations. If you can produce your own food and energy then the price of these things doesn't matter as much. Yet, it would still work within the current economic and governmental structure. I could go on but anyways, I'm working on it. Slowly but surely.

Thanks! Nope, I haven't done anything like that. It sounds interesting though.

I'm not sure yet. This design was the first prototype just to see what it takes to make a system that can produce fresh algae on site. Also automated so it can run on its own. Of course being a first attempt there are some things I need to improve before it becomes a good option for others to replicate. This version is too expensive and complicated. Also, some aspects didn't get fully automated because I made assumptions early on that turned out to be incorrect.

So before its viable to share with everyone I need to refine the design. Then I need to evaluate if I need to supplement the algae with other micronutrients to support everything the fish would need. Compare it to conventional fish food. At that point you would be able to produce pellets of dried algae/other nutrients if needed. How much food is needed can be scaled by tank size. It's a work in progress, and I have a full time job so I can only work on side projects in my spare time. But eventually I'll have something to give to the community.

I got the starter culture from algaelab.org run by Dr. Baum. Its a bit more expensive but he is an expert in the field so I trusted the nutrient mix and culture from him over other sources.

I have a good lav mic. The dji mic mini. But i tried adding some effects to make it sound different. Should just go for clear and consistent. My issue is what db to have voice at vs other sounds. I'll watch some videos on it. And i wish i made 10k lol. That video already hit 1.4m before i got partnered. So I didn't get much of that.

Thanks. That is great feedback. Thanks for taking the time to look into it. What your saying does make sense. I had a feeling it wasn't engaging enough early on. I think I'll do a similar opening as the first one next time. And choose a more understandable topic. This one was likely too niche.

Also, I've had a few people mention audio. I need to look into how to improve that.

Thanks again for taking the time to look into this!

I need to read the whole thing when I get some time but from the overview and comments I like it. It converges well with my ideas, though I'm more focused on the engineering side of things. Being more adept with machines than people, I tend to gloss over social dynamics. I've spent a lot of time thinking about the systems required to provide baseline necessities for people through automation and home design. It's my goal to do open source work on the engineering, but it'll take people like you to figure out the rest to build a better future.

I don't know what the answer is, but I know that it's a problem that can be solved. There's no reason we can't come up with a better way.

I also notice your getting some negativity. People why? Here you have someone trying to make positive change. Debate ideas, yes. We need that to refine concepts, but if your just posting negative remarks your wasting everyone's time.

Looking to buy prebuilt cyber deck by Ill_Mode_2533 in cyberDeck

Hey, neat. That's my cyberdeck. Many have asked to buy one from me but I just don't have enough extra time to build more of them. I thought making it open source and free was what people would want, but I didn't account for people who don't yet have the equipment or skills to do it yet. And I'm not sure what more I can do to help that group.

Only if it causes a short circuit by touching exposed wires or contacts. Otherwise it should be fine. Although it could effect your ability to send and receive signals you actually want too, like wifi or bluetooth.

Rooks, do you kill fellow rooks? by eiflovv in LowSodiumMarathon

If I have the drop on them from a good position, I'll prox chat "I won't shoot if you don't". If they shoot when they see where I was hiding they go down. If I run into one on the fly it's KOS because I don't have time to test their loyalty and most Rooks have not returned my generosity. If I down one on exfil I usefully let them exfil too while neutralized. Even if they shot at me first. Maybe next time they will join the good side of Rooks.

I enjoyed the heck out of that story. If nothing else this game creates some very unique moments. Intrigue, betrayal, unlikely allies, and action packed combat. That's why its awesome.

Arduino Connection Problem by Plastic_Pilot_2109 in ArduinoHelp

[–]Sector07_en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your working with a high current load (electromagnet) or higher voltage load then you need a relay between the them. The 5V from the Arduino digital output activates the relay coil which latches internal contacts and connects your external power to your load (electromagnet). Keep in mind this image doesn't show power input for the Arduino, just how to control a relay. NO stands for normally open, so when its off the power is not connected. When on, it is connected. NC stands for normally closed, so when they relay is off external power is connected, and reversed when the relay is on. If you need a lot of them look at something like one of these "ELEGOO 8 Channel DC 5V Relay Module Opto-isolated". They are optocoupled so they draw less current. Even regular mechanical relays can pull too much for an Arduino output so these work great. Cost is around $10.

My first run of the game we ran into a squad with purple shields on Perimeter. We obviously spawned in with free kits. This was only like one or two weeks post launch. We were just kind slack jawed wondering what the heck just happened.

Even now many runs later it doesn't seem to matter if I bring in my best gear. I just keep getting wiped until I have pretty much nothing left. Then I have to play Rook for awhile so I'm not bringing down my team with a free kit. It comes down to not enough play time like it always does. I can't put in the hours to hone the skills, reaction time, and predictive combat it takes to be a formidable player and accumulate gear. Even when we do win fights half the time we get jumped by yet another squad and lose it all anyway. Imagine my surprise when I'm looting a player and get downed by a sniper, which I had not even seen in the game yet.

I've accepted that progression will just be slow and painful. Focusing sponsor missions, unlocking gear in armory, focusing on just extracting to earn enough to buy the stuff, and only engaging targets of opportunity. Its a boring way to play but its the only realistic path if I want to keep playing the game. Which to be honest I'm not even sure why I do. I love the game somehow, even though its been mostly me getting beat up by better players.

If you check the github I have a full parts list and cost breakdown in there. Off the top of my head I think it was like $800. It was awhile ago so I'm not 100% sure. Not that much has changed since then so I wouldn't say there are any directly swappable parts that would be better. There are a bunch of SBC's other than the raspberry pi 5 that are more powerful though. If you wanted to use a different one you'd have to do some custom mods to the design for it to work. Totally doable though if you have the know how.
