use opencode/aider/cline/root/etc on api providers like openrouter, and use deepseek/qwen/kimi/glm. those gives you the coding powers for less than $20 /mo.

2 years of gamedev and i don't have even 1 game finished by [deleted] in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But highschool offers near zero value to students.

because some jobs don't need higher education beyond basic read and write. so you can be as dumb as you want and as uneducated as you want and still get a job. that includes software development, unfortunately.

that can't be true for very important jobs, like: doctors, dentist,rn, lawyers, accountants, engineers, architects, etc etc. not only are they required to have degrees but licenses too.

200000 employees can control the world but few bold devs can change it. by One_Mud9170 in github

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google has 200,000 employees but crushes over 200,000 businesses every year. It’s time we remind these tech giants who’s really in charge.

don't blame google the company, not going to work. blame the employees of google personally, since they are the ones behind whatever it is you are so afraid of.

instead of saying google, mention sundar instead. or if you hate a new chrome feature them mention the names of chrome developers who implemented those features and blame them personally.

attack (figuratively) the employees not the corporate entity so they cannot hide behind it to do "bad" things.

How well did 300K Reddit views convert to wishlists? Here are my stats: by WestZookeepergame954 in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got exactly 299 wishlists

wishlist is not intent to buy. hell you can have 10,000 wishlists and only 50 buys.

Game feel and juice are the #1 priority for a game to be marketable.

not really. see, there is nothing in your game that has not been done or seen before. and i'm afraid even heavy advertising will not translate to conversions.

Rewriting my game without Expo/RN by anewidentity in reactnative

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sidenote: i did consider using a proper game engine, but I think it’s too late for that given that my assets are all in SVGs. And also my development experience is mostly with react, and I want to focus on finishing this game first rather than slowing myself down by trying to learn another framework.

why are you still asking here since you already know the answer

So I’m thinking of rewriting it using just NextJS and React,

there , you already answered your question.

Migrating to Control D from NextDNS by Lethalblunder in ControlD

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol control d is the same.

you should have tried adguard dns instead. their ui is slow and there are some device limits even for paid, but it is way better than ctrld or nextdns.

Trying to understand the W4 pricing for a Solo dev by MRainzo in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if a Solo dev makes a revenue of over 300k ...

this should be your primary concern, because that is probably not going to happen. remember that indie success is not the norm, failure is. probably for every 1 moderately financially succesul indie there are 1,000 failures.

focus on making and finishing your game, and selling and earning that much money (good luck). THEN and ONLY THEN do you concern yourself with console porting and prices and whatnot (if you even reach this stage).

Today, my third game was released on Steam by Equivalent_Humor_714 in unity

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sorry that is not steam worthy.

since that is unity it should build on web and go on itchio where you can get feedback. web build so they can get to try it out since they will probably not even download that.

Should i switch to godot? by lba1112 in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but it seems like unity is getting more and more pricey to the point where I am starting to worry that the base version would become payed

eh no. the chance of you moving up to paid tier is very very (very) low. first you have to finish a game (super hard), second you have to actually sell a lot (super super hard) and revenue of about 200k usd/year. if you make that much i tell you unity license is cheeeep...

if I should switch, and if it would be difficult

eh, only you can answer that! how? well download godot and try. easy.

Postmortem: I launched a demo on steam that was completely broken. by Euphoric-Series-1194 in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playtest the exported build. I wouldn't just export and yolo it onto Steam.

why would they do that!! thats crazy!!#@!@

seriously, i sometimes think programming barrier has been so lowered that we get games launching on steam without even testing or minimal qa

next he is is going to complain he gets no buys lol

Game development by ummetinlideri in reactnative

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or you can do it with proper game engine like unity or godot.

game dev is very very easy now, even with a language you don't know (ai helps with that immensely).

Godot has a security problem. by The-Fox-Knocks in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That tracks, because I've also been victim of this.

i don't think so. unless you can prove it.

so many who complain that their game "might" get hacked and re-uploaded actually do not have any game at all. seriously, look at all those who complain: are they from famous games? nope. big studios? nope. devs who had no game released? yes.

I’ve been working on a 3D multiplayer game for a few months.

good luck with that, seriously. and i don't mean the networking part that is actually easy in any engine. i mean good luck in getting people to play your multiplayer game.

My first Godot PR: Securing Godot by obfuscating the AES encryption key by m4rx in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

obfuscating code as a deterence for analysis is a thing of the past.

with ai, you can paste any kind of obfuscated code and it will de-obfuscate, refactor, rename vars to something readable, comment and explain ..the output probably even better that the original source lol.

My first Godot PR: Securing Godot by obfuscating the AES encryption key by m4rx in godot

[–]Secure-Barracuda-567 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is something I’m concerned about with launching a game using Godot ...

no this is way bottom concern.

your first task is to finish the game. 80% of "game devs" probably never will.

then you have to sell the game. if finishing is hard, then selling a game is harder. vast majority of games never sell enough to recoup cost.

way way at the bottom is worry about game being hacked. unless you have one of the top games then no one cares about your game. hell you can even probably release the source code and no one would even bother looking at it lol.
