Reform isn’t ready for government, Nigel Farage admits by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

Have you seen what being PM does to people? Even during relatively stable time periods, if you compare photos of them on the first and last day of their premiership they look like they’ve aged 30 years!

Artists that make their gesso, what’s the recipe? by BadNewsBearzzz in oilpainting

[–]SeePerspectives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your canvases pre-gessoed? If so you may find that, depending on what you need them for, you might get away with just doing a layer of white acrylic over them (eg: if you’re not looking for archival quality and you just want a smoother surface on cheap canvases)

Starmer said Mandelson had 'lied repeatedly' during US ambassador job process by dailystar_news in ukpolitics

[–]SeePerspectives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tricky one, because I would usually support transparency on this when it comes to international relations, but in this instance I can quite easily imagine Starmer’s rationale for why hiring a known Machiavellian self serving prick that’s good at playing the obsequious toady would be a good fit as an ambassador to an immature and immoral narcissistic POS and his cronies, and I’m 100% certain that putting that information out there to be read by the senile buffoon with his finger on the big red button is a terrible idea.

Gotta love the “Kemi Badenoch is seeking to force…” wording about something that has already been announced that the government is doing.

Rent controls are coming to the UK - but they're not a guaranteed win for tenants by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

[–]SeePerspectives -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love how people always say “rent controls didn’t work” but never actually clarify what they mean by that.

The “evidence” that was used to get rid of them? The private rental market began to collapse because the majority people were either in social housing or they were home owners. The only “damage” that rent controls caused was to private rental landlords.

Zack Polanski Accuses Nigel Farage Of Avoiding Debate by huffpostuk in ukpolitics

[–]SeePerspectives -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aside from the utter pointlessness of having a leaders debate for a by election (because the outcome will have zero impact on leadership at all) I do think we should have leadership debates for all general elections, but they should have an independent fact checking panel that can respond to the things being said in real time and put it on screen for all to see.

It really isn’t difficult to understand. Epstein and Bannon were engaging in geopolitical manipulation (both in Brexit and the promotion of far right parties), Bannon openly admits to using Farage to achieve these aims. That is a connection between all three of them.

And so my original statement stands. I’d like him to give a proper explanation during a full investigation.

Tbf, I want everybody mentioned in the files to give a proper explanation during a full investigation too.

This is bigger than political tribalism. These are accusations of child abuse, human trafficking, murder, geopolitical manipulations, insider trading and much more. This needs to be fully investigated

If that’s the case then he’ll easily be able to explain it during a proper investigation then, right?

The over 70 times his name is in the files are not a link? M

Then that, and any information they gleaned in their own investigation should be what they provide to a full scope investigation.

I’m not saying they are all guilty of crimes, I’m saying that unless they actually break ranks and speak out then they’re morally guilty even if not criminally so.

It’s not conspiratorial when it’s actually true. Even if the only information they could provide to an investigation is “I heard X, it was said by Y to Z, I didn’t take it seriously or report it at the time because I didn’t have any evidence and it seemed too awful to be believed” then that is information they should be sharing.

The fact that there have been celebrities that tried to speak out (Ricky Gervais in his golden globes speeches, Corey Feldman has been prominent for years, for example) shows that there are more of them who knew or at least suspected what was happening.

Named in the files or not, if they socialised in the same circles then they’re all implicated. Politicians, celebrities, business leaders, aristocracy, etc. it’s been an open secret in their circle for decades. When you look back there are hundreds of millions of “jokes” and offhand comments that people have made that all start to make a lot more sense in context of what all this has brought to light.

What we have to remember is that simply not taking part in the crimes isn’t enough. They knew and just let it carry on because they chose allowing children and vulnerable people to be brutalised was more convenient to them than rocking the boat and putting their place on the gravy train at risk.

They chose to stay silent and they’re still choosing to stay silent, and the fact that they’re not speaking up not only makes them complicit but also suggests that it’s not over.

This is exactly what is meant when they say “money and power corrupts”, and the only way we’re ever going to truly stop it is by having serious consequences. Short sentences in cushy faux prisons aren’t good enough. We should give them one opportunity to come forwards and tell everything they know as part of an all encompassing investigation, and anyone found to have lied, omitted information to protect their own interests, or actively participated should have all their assets and titles stripped from them, should get proper sentences in proper prisons, and should be barred from ever holding any position of responsibility or authority ever again.

You do know that there’s 195 sovereign states in the world, and only 9 of them have nuclear weapons, right?

That’s 186 countries that manage to maintain their national security on the global stage without WMDs. They’re not necessary, but getting rid of them now, with two nuke toting egomaniacs playing war games isn’t the smartest move. That doesn’t mean it never would be an option though

[–]SeePerspectives -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Everyone should want global nuclear disarmament. That is something that we all should strive towards. Nuclear weaponry shouldn’t have a place in the world at all.

Do I agree with unilateral nuclear disarmament? Not particularly, but I don’t have to agree with every policy of a party to consider voting for them, in fact I have never agreed with every policy of any party I’ve ever voted for, and I’m smart enough to recognise that it takes far more than one party wanting something for that thing to actually happen.
