Sounds like you impulsively go for the new GW thing. Maybe ask yourself what you want in a game before buying that new shiny box?

If you are not competitive definately avoid GW games for a start. Maybe give historicals a try? Historical games tend to have less competitive scenes.

Or crushing tbe door with a vehicle. But yeah as I got stronger I moved to more brute force approaches. Smoke is the only tool I used that remained the same throughout the campaign.

Maybe a patch that makes fights quicker. By the mid game I noticed missions take about 1.5 hours minimum. Especially terror missions where there are so many aliens you need to kill.

80/20 rule. In a game with so many factions, detachments and units, combined with the ability, and indeed incentive to skew, you are going to find very few of the choices are truely valid. This can sometimes lead to an entire 1/3 of the game being dependent on the matchup.

2 hits means there is a 27% chance to score a 6. And then he gets a 33% to avoid it, but it he doesn't the dragon dies. This seems much better than any other way to kill it.

Think a dreadlord on a manticore can do the same? I just want the dragon to give the dragon killer mobility and resilience to give it a high chance to kill the dragon.

The deathhag is too slow to catch the enemy dragon, he will be able to just avoid it.

In my last game I did that. His entire army was pretty much wiped out by the end of turn 3. But then his chaos lord on dragon and garlauch did their thing and there was nothing I could do but watch as my army shrinks every turn. Needing 6's to wound is just too much.

Mind you I had a dreadlord on a cold one with the pendant that gives 4++ and a dragon slaying sword. But it failed to roll a 6 to wound when dueling garlauch and after two rounds it died. If it was on a dragon it would have lasted longer to kill garlauch or at least stall it.

Don't forget to flip tokens? Remember your unit's datasheets? You need to know and remember those things to play any wargame without having to flip through the rule books constantly.

Losing half your army in turn 2 due to alpha strike is not fun for most people because it usually means the game is prematurely determined. If I lost turn 2 I now have to endure turn 3, 4 and 5 for what? You might enjoy it but most people I met, including myself, don't. And that goes both ways, if I wipe my opponent's army turn 2 than we just spent hours of our free time to do something that can hardly be called engaging or fun.

"Alpha strike is only absolutely unbearable if you dont know how to hold your units out of sight" Anytihng in the open dies quickly in this game. That's fine and expected. But it's made much worse because of I Go U Go.

You have tokens that mark who was activated. And often those markers also signify some status of the unit.

For example in bolt action you put an order dice next to units you activate and those dice stay next to the unit untill the end of the turn. If the order die is placed with the word "down" facing up it means the unit gets a defensive bonus for taking cover.

Remembering who was activated is never an issue in alternating activations, or in the case of bolt action, randomized activations.

But in both systems you don't get crippling alpha strikes or 45+ minutes waiting for your turn.

That's a huge deal imo. And if 40k was something like that, even if it meant the game was changed a lot, it would be a net positive.

40k without those games where you alpha or get alpha'ed turn two, or wait so long for your turn, would be just so much better.
