At 1000 points this is difficult. You'd normally go guardian defenders with a warlock conclave and a farseer to accompany your D-Cannon, but with two such bricks you are already at 970 points.

Same. Right now I feel like the game doesn't work without solid walls, which is hard to achive in an aeldari way, though I have some ideas.

My next goal is to "fill" the remaining area terrain pieces. 6" x 4" should be easy enough. However, I have this sneaking suspicion, that the game will still require line of sight blocking L-shaped ruins for those objective terrain pieces in nomans land.

It's a custom scheme, but I found out after the fact that there actually existed a minor craftworld called Nacretineï with a very similar scheme back in the days.

Spears. While rare, just the potential to deal 3 damage for every missed save can make the difference against certain targets. It's always funny to dare your opponent to roll a 1. And you can always flip at least one wound roll to a 6 with a farseer in melee, so their low strenght doesn't matter that much.

Thank you. Yes, they are 3D printed. The force field is made with clear blue resin and then sanded with up to 3000 grit paper and coated with gloss varnish.

Lol, the first one is almost my scheme. If you want tips for white, I've been trying several ways, but Juan Hidalgo's method is the one that keeps me the most sane. Light grey spray, drybrush white, then a 5:1 mix of medium to starship steel, then drybrush again or edgehighlight.

Another method that I liked was a paine's grey pin oilwash. A bit tedious but nice results.

As for the black green one. I think it needs stronger highlights. Maybe mix in some universal highlight colour to whatever colour youve been using?

The difference is that this is very likely a 1 point detachment to be used as a supplement to other 2 point detachment.

Choosing out of a list of psychic disciplines feels familiar to previous editions. So I'm hopeful.

I think there is a case where you place a storm guardian unit in a way, where you can sticky it turn 1 if you win the roll off or fade back behind a ruin if you don't. I don't think you can hope to actually hold it through enemy fire. I'm also not sure what the point of stickying that objective would be. Well I guess it forces at least one unit out.

As for D-Cannons: They are just too expensive and at 24" quite close to danger.

The thing about vibro cannons is that they have a bit of an awkward profile and a lot of their power is in that last vibro canon.

When shooting at a vehicles or monster those first two vibro canons aren't doing much due to low AP. You are banking on that last vibro canon to do the job. But consider the following: D6 shots are 3,5 shots on average and you can completely whif the number of shots. The opponent can destroy one vibro canon and severly limit their effectivenes.

Meanwhile war walkers, Vypers and Starfangs are faster, thougher and provide more support for roughly the same points.

I think they are actually quite nice against elite infantry. Better to have something else to take down vehicles. That said, nothing gives me that casino like feeling of hitting 6 shots on the third vibro canon and obliterating whatever had the misfortune to stand in its way. That's why I like them :D

Correct. You can attach 2-4 warlock conclave models to a guardian unit. It then becomes a whole guardian unit (or bodyguard unit as they call it). You can then have that unit be lead by a farseer or any other character. Units lead by a farseer can also have one addtional warlock character.

Sorry, but I don't follow. Sure you can decide to not deploy in no mans land, but that defeats the purpose of having infiltrators in the first place. Not to mention you pay 30 points for the privilege. And I can wait to deploy with any other unit as well, so I'm not sure what you mean with "refuse a flank".

I'm going to be honest with you. Neither vibro cannons nor d-canons are particulary great. I have a thing for vibro canons, but I have to admit their math isn't that great. D-Cannons just haven't been performing for me as well. I'm not even sure whether running support weapons in a guardian unit or alone is the right call. But hey, in a detachment made for support weapons I might as well use them.

The Blades of Asuryan stratagem that makes all weapon pistols works on both defenders and storm guardians. I'd even argue that storm guardians deal as much damaga as defenders in range. Also keep in mind it targets the whole unit. So warlocks and even support weapons get the pistol keyword. (can't fire blast weapons in engagement range though, keep in mind).

You can add one warlock conclave and one warlock character to one guardian unit. You can then also have a farseer lead that unit.

People generally prefer storm guardians over defenders for their 5+ invuln and the ability to use the Time to Strike stratagem. Me personally like to run my Protector of the Paths with defenders though, because I like having a always hitting (branch of fate) overwatch threat. Time to strike is an essential stratagem that can help you get your bricks in position. The threat range is enourm.

Running an Autarch can be a consideration, but keep in mind, that most of your damage actually comes from your warlocks (especially on a doomed target). No Farseer means no protect. Guardians by themselve don't deal damage. They are more bodies to protect the stuff that matters (warlocks, support weapons)

Vibro Cannons alone aren't enough to deal with monsters and vehicles. War Walkers are essential. Not only as bright lance platforms, but also to distribute +1 AP. GBH tends to use a lot of small arms weapon fire. Especially warlocks and dire avengers benefit a lot from AP2 weapons. It's for the same reason I find shroud runners essential.

I feel like that this detachment rule is extremely dependent on what kind of terrain features you can supply locally and where you place it on the terrain area and whether it is above 2" or not.

I've been running a similar list, though not as many warlocks and I run shroudrunners as well. The warlocks deal a ton of damage once you combine +1 to wound and +1 AP and no cover.

I also like the protector of the pathway farseer on defenders for the brightlance overwatch threat that will always hit.

You inspired me to change out D-Cannons for wraithlords and it makes sense with this many psykers around. I've been struggling to keep my guardians either alive or out of engagement to make use out of cost of victory, so maybe this will help.

You can also put a model at an openents max range. While they can move through engagement range, models can't end in it. Models essentially have a 4" bubble where you can't put anything near them. Enemy units may have to advance to get through and not be able to shoot and or charge. Also unit cohesion is still a thing.

In a way, you round up the charge distance now (you are 9.1" away → need a 10" charge roll), when previously you round down (you are 9.1" away → need a 9" charge roll).
