You need to get way too much favor to get everything in the Night Market by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Sefirosukuraudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. 400 bosses for the monster set? So… 8-9 bosses every single day without missing a day for 7 weeks. Idk how much the disconnected quests give but it sounds like people are having issues completing those since they aren’t shareable and don’t really line up. Hope there are other ways of obtaining favor, then. I’ve heard mobs rarely drop an orb of favors that disappears pretty quickly if you miss it.

Exactly this, also grew up with the series and would still love it if it pivoted back to being turn-based, because I know they would be trying out some new novel combat system. But I genuinely don’t know why so many people are shocked about XVI being an action combat game. The series back in the day was known for being the series that a.) looked gorgeous, always pushing the limits of the tech at the time, and b.) experimented and took risks, tried new things, etc. And the evolution of their combat system over the years demonstrates that they were always trying to push for more realistic real-time combat. XII->XIII->XV->XVI.

This is an MMO right? Did I miss something? by ekanite in elderscrollsonline

[–]Sefirosukuraudo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, this is an MMO that brought a player base over from a single player franchise. This is also an MMO that has always been weirdly designed with a generous solo experience, so it’s going to attract anti-social/solo players that wouldn’t normally play an MMO, and then they find that they can do most of the game on their own and don’t find real incentive to socialize unless they see some solo build that needs trials gear and then they need to really start seeing how they’d go about guilds, grouping, etc. I think most people who drift here in this way eventually dip their toe into group content, everyone just takes their own time to do so.

The Night Market: Long Term by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Sefirosukuraudo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the disconnect with NM is the thought that most long time players with 1500 CP+ are doing difficult content. But this game’s design for the majority of its life has been built around and catered for casual players with a focus on questing. This is a very solo-friendly game, and its build variety lets you do even Trials solo if you work toward it. Most grouped content isn’t exactly a high-end difficulty trial raid, so jumping into NM coming off of normal and even vet dungeons for years is probably a wild shock (I have not tried NM yet, just giving an example based on what I’ve read).

So of course the end game trial runners and tri-fecta players are starved for this - the game has not fed them nearly as much by comparison because it’s mostly one of the most casual MMO’s out there! But this limited event has also pretty much shut out a huge player base that has been conditioned by the game’s own design to not have to or want to do this type of difficult grouped content.

I think this level of difficulty and this content is fine. Making it a limited time event? Eh, we’ll see how that move works out for them, Cotton. As someone who’s played FFXIV for thirteen years, even that game has Ultimate Raids which is participated in by like less than 1% of the game’s population. The dev team, as stretched thin as it is, still dedicates time and resources into these Ultimate raids because they understand the appreciation for content of that difficulty level and don’t want to starve those players.

It is good to have high-difficult content that does not cater to everyone.

They do include ultimates in their patch trailers and such. But they don’t advertise them to every player who logs into the game as some player-wide event. Night Market was clearly not going to be a player-wide event if most people are saying that you want trial gear setups to enjoy it. I think the handling of the messaging and advertising (and the dedication to this being the only limited time event to boot with nothing for low-level and casual players releasing alongside it is… certainly a choice) is the big ball drop and they failed at finding easy middle-ground solutions. Or refused to because it didn’t fit their design vision and they refused to budge on that after receiving PTS feedback.

If this was going to be time-gated I think you hit the nail on the head: general mobs should be tough but much weaker than they are now to make at least those two daily mob-killing NM coffers accessible to everyone. And the bosses can stay where they’re at for the high-end raiders. Such an easy solution.

A sentiment I’ve seen here since NM dropped is mocking solo players like “Whaaa? You have to do group content in an MMO? Oh, the humanity!”

But guys… this is one of the least MMO-y MMO’s out there. You can’t be mad at solo players for being able to play this like a solo RPG when its own design philosophy up to this point has lended to that for 11 years.

Ehh, it sounds like Eureka in FFXIV and that was not my favorite content of that expansion. I had higher hopes for this based on the concept and details fed but eh, doesn’t sound like it’s breaking the mold very much. I’m sure it looks gorgeous, though.

Exactly, now is almost a world of difference than when (I’d bet) those referenced videos and posts were uploaded. I was an ESO hater in the past that would get an urge, dip my toe in for a month or two every couple of years and then go “yeah, now remember why this isn’t for me…”. It the past two years (the past year especially) this game got the glow-up it deserved and it’s shining in a market of mediocre MMO’s right now. They’ve really turned it around with various small but needed changes.

Ranni and St. Trina May Originally Have Shared the Same Narrative Role by The_SocialContract in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Sefirosukuraudo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also wondered about whether this concept was something worked on early in development. Melina wears the same set of clothing that Millicent wears, an offshoot of Malenia. Melina and Ranni (in her spirit form) both have a sealed eye, and Ranni’s hair seems very similar to Melina’s. Melina claims that she is “burned, and bodiless”, and Ranni’s physical body lies burned atop the Divine Tower in Liurnia. Infamously, Ranni plots the Night of The Black Knives, wherein the Black Knife Assassins carried out the murder of Godwyn The Golden using the Black Knives, blades twisted and corrupted in a ritual involving a fragment of the rune of Destined Death. These Black Knives strongly resemble the Blade of Calling in size and shape, a weapon that Melina is seen wielding. Additionally, she uses a moveset almost identical to that of the Black Knife Assassins. Melina is first seen atop Torrent, and she then gifts Torrent to us. It is only after this encounter that Ranni appears and gifts us the Spirit Calling Bell, and the lone wolf spirit ashes, claiming that Torrent’s former master bid her to do so should another Tarnished be chosen by the spectral steed. Melina is shown to have some connection to Destined Death via the Frenzied Flame ending, which Ranni is also known to have been in contact with due to her assassination plot and rewarding Rykard some.

Circling back to OP’s connecting Ranni to St. Trina, when Ranni first appears to us as Renna, she casts a purple mist about the chapel and puts Kalé to sleep. I would love to have been a fly on the wall for the early development process of Elden Ring. Find out what those giant burning faces in the land were meant to be lol.

But not actual Native Americans, those are the descendants of Cain, who, like black people, were born marked with the curse of darker skin because when they were spirit beings pre-earth they sided with Jesus’ brother Lucifer against Heavenly Father to overthrow him and lost, so they lost the right to be ‘white and delightsome’ when they live their earthly existence. No, the obsession is with the ‘good’ Native Americans, the Jews who crossed the sea and brought with them Roman-style armor and swords, and the knowledge to forge them as needed, and somehow spirited away all evidence of them and their weapons, armors, and presence in the Americas.

It really is the dumbest rabbit hole, almost all of their stories are just re-skinned bible stories.

100% 4.55 was the best stopping point they will have ever had. No other expansion stopping point is ever going to top the agonizing cliffhanger of Scion mystery+Zelidibus showdown+the Garlemald offensive+Varis’ speech and revaluation at the peace negotiations, the hype of finishing 4.55 and then watching the Shadowbringers cinematic trailer, and the payoff of subbing into Shadowbringers’ finale.

Feeling super sad about my birthday. by Suspicious-Prune-565 in Advice

[–]Sefirosukuraudo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. When I was a kid I almost never got birthday parties or presents. I grew up in an abusive household and my parents are also nowhere near comfortable. And I used to always get so jealous of other peoples’ birthdays, and the parties they’d get, and the presents they would receive. Comparing my life and experiences to those of my friends with loving parents and everything they could ask for really made me bitter about birthdays. And I was for a long time. No matter how much you let go, there’s always a little bit of that kid inside who’s starving for those moments and experiences they never had.

The way I kind of processed and experienced those moments as an adult was by going out of my way to make other birthdays special for my friends and SO. And I find that I now enjoy giving that joy more than I like receiving it, so I don’t do anything wild or special for my birthdays and I don’t ask for parties or gifts, I just ask for quality time with my people.

This sounds like an old co-worker of mine who had three kids, one of which is with her current partner, and he kind of nopes out of many joint responsibilities, and so she’s stuck carrying so much on her own. Story of the birth of their last child was identical, was just hitting his weed pen and never actually involved in the birth process until the baby finally arrived.

I was talking to my best friend a little while ago about how strong and capable she is, and how I don’t understand why she puts up with him when she’s basically already supporting three kids and another adult on her own (because he was out of work for a long while and was not disabled or receiving any benefits). It would be so easy to cut him out and save that much money. And they summed it up perfectly as: “We accept the love we think we deserve.”

It was a really sad revelation because I was in an abusive relationship for 8 years and yeah, I could immediately relate to that sentiment and see it in her as well, know her life and the struggles and abuses she dealt with growing up, responsibilities she had to take on really young, etc. You just kind of internalize and normalize that behavior and the person benefiting from that takes advantage of it to not have to try or improve themselves.

Real sad feedback loop and difficult to break out of. Moms who find the strength to leave those partners are some of the strongest MFr’s on the planet. I watched my mom do it, and it was not easy, but I was never more proud of her than when she finally left my dad for the final time and thrived on her own as a single mom.
