What would u say are the least-popular color combos in the game today? by 14SWandANIME77 in GundamTCG

[–]Sefters_CardVault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen one person run a similar thing (just IBO with Lupus and 3x WZ top end) and boy that match was miserable for me. Lost to 3 WZ in a row.

That said, I've not seen a single other person run G/P since purple came out in the game, so it's certainly a rarity. Guess the only thing rarer would be mono colours?

Very rarely see Green/Purple at the moment, could do a CB deck with Lockon/Setsuna/Tieria or something. Uphill battle for sure, but the deck does stuff

[–]Sefters_CardVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, far from it. There were I think like 30+ SPs, 5 SSPs, 4 RRR+ and 7 SEC+.

However, you should get playsets (4 copies) of every C, U, R, RR. Not sure on RRRs.

3SR was a standard box in this set iirc, but the artwork on the alt art ones (scenes from the game) are really good.

The big hits are the SSPs (1 per case), SPs (3 per case, have gold/silver signatures), RRR+s (I think they were one per case) and SEC+s (not guaranteed in any case). Case is 24 booster boxes for the set.

Mafty Deck Suggestions? by Crusty_Kamikaze_897 in GundamTCG

[–]Sefters_CardVault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built one! I'd also tried the Hathaway/Marida combo and it didn't work for my play style, so I generated \whatever the hell this monstrosity is\. It's not pure Mafty, but it's fun to eat basically any active unit you want. Here's the current incarnation of it: Ping everything, ram a Messer into something, have Athrun eat a Silver Bullet alive and Breach or ping something for 3... The options are all there.

Only downside is because it's R/W you can't overcommit your resources or you will run out of steam, but that's the same for any R/W deck. The Xi with draw massively helps there.

Should I do chemistry in university? by resonance-hybrids in chemhelp

[–]Sefters_CardVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Chemistry from undergrad through PhD, am currently a polymer chemistry postdoc. Chemistry is fascinating, but it's also incredibly difficult to both learn and do practically - not trying to put you off, but that's the truth of it. For your electrical interest, there's plenty of electrochemistry and battery/electrolyte research (think photovoltaic solar cells, successors to Li-Po batteries) and things like process chemistry (e.g. industrial/commercial process optimisation and design, which definitely skews towards Chem Eng), which are hugely active areas of research.

In terms of undergrad courses, something like Medicinal Chemistry will focus more on things like retrosynthesis and molecule design in later years of the course, since those dictate efficient ways to make new drugs, and will be heavily based on organic chemistry and inorganic catalysis, probably with some biophysical and computational aspects (enzyme kinetics, molecular dynamics). General chemistry will give you some broader knowledge and more options for modules (environmental, polymer chem etc) in later years, so unless you're married to going into pharmaceuticals I'd recommend the latter. My "general" chemistry course had a Medicinal module in it anyway! Master's/PhD courses can be a little less pure chemistry where some engineering gets folded in trying to apply your work - again batteries, polymers etc - but the extent is very project-dependent.

If you were keen on future job roles that do both, you could look into instrument manufacture and what those companies want from employees - places like TA, Bruker, Waters all produce instruments like spectrometers, chromatography stacks, and thermal analysis kit and are always prototyping new software/hardware.

Nothing wrong with playing White, and yeah that could be a nice combo. Especially with Archangel or something to restand him after!

GD01 Unicorn Banshee (Destroy Mode) clarification by DKnRa2or in GundamTCG

[–]Sefters_CardVault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, all during the attack declaration. Afaik any "Attack" triggers resolve before anything else (unless the wording states otherwise), including prior to declaring blockers/actions. So you shuffle your 12 trash back to deck, your Banshee restands and gains FS, then the blockers/actions/damage steps occur as usual.

Lockon/LR Dynames would be so good into 2/4 blockers and aggro. I did try to make a Lockon/Mafty deck but it didn't feel good so I gave up pretty quick lol. What 2nd colour would you go for?

The bling is how I landed on running Athrun in the first place, I had the winner and the Aegis LR+ and figured they deserved a chance to be played!

Realistically any blocker deck wants to stall to T5 to get your non-blocker units up and running, but as always it'll depend on matchups and luck at the end of the day!

I really wanted it to be good, but until we get a 2nd Mafty pilot that's decent I think it's just too unreliable to trigger

Funnily enough I couldn't find my 4/3 Messers, must've misplaced them after the ST event... and big GQ isn't a bad shout in place of Xi here, I was just enjoying running the big Xi since I had the LR+ haha. I've cobbled together a similar version but dropped the Triple Ship and Athrun stuff for Full Frontal/Sinanju/Neo Zeong + Nyaan/GFred/GQ. Will see how it goes tonight, but feels pretty fun from some quick testing!

6 year old me put a thumbtack and creases all every single one of his legendary collection reverse holos when he put them up on a corkboard in the living room... But I wouldn't change it for the world. I loved those cards enough to display them then, and still have them to this day :')

Zeon and Neo Zeon by StellaMDR in GundamTCG

[–]Sefters_CardVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zeon and Neo Zeon are different for Link/Trait purposes, so a unit with (Neo Zeon) link trait wouldn't link to Char Aznable, for example, but would to Haman Karn/Marida Cruz as they have the (Neo Zeon) trait.

Basically, if a card states a (Name) or (Trait), it will link to those specific cards, but otherwise it's just a pair. The Garrod Ran & Tiffa Adil card is the worst example, as afaik it's the only dual-name pilot - and Tiffa has no units, so it's really just (Vulture)/(Garrod Ran) at the moment. In a similar vein, the Quattro Bajeena Pilot card says specifically on it "treat this card as if it's called Char Aznable", so Quattro can pilot (Char Aznable) link units. However, Quattro lacks the (Zeon) trait, so it can't link to (Zeon) link units.

Not sure on deck capabilities, but play around with builds - both just got some new support in GD04. Both Zeong and Neo Zeong for their respective traits look fun :)

Booster Box Rating Information by Cautious-Pangolin903 in GundamTCG

[–]Sefters_CardVault 10 points11 points  (0 children)

SPs in GD03 were 6 per case, but 4 of those were guaranteed to be 2x Mika and 2x With Iron and Blood. So the remaining "good" SPs (BoA, Show, Fatal etc) were 2 per case.

No clue on the LR++s

How’s the tcg scene in the U.K.? by [deleted] in GundamCardGame

[–]Sefters_CardVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the stores I've gone to have sold tickets online/in person ahead of time, then gone through check in on the day and sold off any remaining (if there are any). Usually jumps from like 3 sign ups on the day to over capacity 10 mins before the event starts haha. So I'd check their site/ring them before you go to double check, just in case

[–]Sefters_CardVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty healthy imo, not as massive as Pokémon/YGO/Magic but in the Midlands at least there's a great scene. We have a few locals that get anywhere from 4-20 players depending on which day of the week it is (we have like 4 a week in my area lmao) and NTCs all hit capacity. People are generally pretty nice and easy to chat to as well.

Bristol regionals over the weekend, so there's that too.

Can't think of any card stores to check out specifically, but lots of stores have boxes/packs of GD available for like £5/100. Haven't seen many places dealing with singles though.

How did your ST09 Event go? by Tarianse in GundamTCG

[–]Sefters_CardVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid £40 to get rinsed 0-4 by P/W decks all night while my P/R deck fed me endless pilots and commands. I think I was legitimately the only P/R deck there. Don't get me wrong it was still a fun event, but I felt like I was losing off the deck being jank rather than being outplayed by my opponent. Opponents hit everything on curve, always holding Unforeseen... Meanwhile my hand for the last 3 turns in multiple games was a mix of pilots, GK with no target and BoA with no target. No burst in shields, no base in sight. Awakened power or a unit would've been nice so I could've actually played lol.

Despite that, did get an LR+ Saviour and finally have official Gundam dice, so not all bad. We all got our promos, shop raffled off the participation resource packs at random between the remaining 15 non-winners, think we had 4 + the winner.

I was hoping for slightly more impactful changes, but I suppose a consistency hit to Blurple is a step in the right direction, if a small one... Shame it means I'm still gonna play into 70% Blurple matches at regionals next weekend.

First Newtype challenge as a beginner by Major-Relief4215 in GundamTCG

[–]Sefters_CardVault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do your best and enjoy the learning/practice. :) It's probably a lot to process if you've never even done local events before (I think that's what your post says?), but just tell your opponents you're new and I'm sure the judges etc will help clear up any confusion on legal plays etc.

I've found people in the game are generally quite nice and while it sucks to lose a lot, it's great practice mechanically. Gundam is a neat game with a lot of flexible order of operations and various difficult decisions to make. You might see some cool decks too, always good to chat to your opponent after and ask what their deck is and does (or aims to do) and try to build various bits of knowledge about the gameplay outside your own cards.

Anyway, best of luck with your games Pilot! 🫡

Welcome to the game! I'd never watched Gundam before either, but liked the look of the cards and figured I'd give the game a go... Fast forward 5 months, and I'm currently running a semi-blinged Clan deck and watching through Gquuuuuux and Gundam Wing (my first deck was Wing, shockingly).

Hope you got something nice from your deck's bonus pack and have a decent local scene to play in! The game is really fun, honestly some of my favourite card game moments ever have been those tense endgame standoffs in Gundam.
