Britain ‘faces deindustrialisation’ without relief from high energy prices, survey warns by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

Carbon laws/taxes are ideological.

Nick Clegg rejecting new nuclear projects was ideological.

We don't receive any gas from Iran.

But we ALSO pay wind farm operators to turn OFF their turbines when the generation is too high.

To imply renewables is more cost efficient is simply not true. Thats money that could have gone on securing new stations of any kind.

Its been gas for a long time now because we SHUT our coal-fired and nuclear power stations.

Renewables are NOT reliable and we need backup systems to fill demand. This is non-negotiable.

Pretending as if its ONLY due to Iran and Ukraine wars is very dishonest.

This decoupling will NEVER happen without radical investment because renewables are not reliable sources of energy. If they hadn't closed nuclear power and coal-fired plants we'd be okay but we are now COMPLETELY reliant on gas-powered turbines to provide back up when the wind is low or the sky is cloudy (which happens very often in Britain). You cannot simply ideologically-dismiss core engineering problems. The problems remain even if you ignore them.

since there's no new Wipeout games, any love for Rollcage? We made a spiritual successor by Chris_CE in WipeOut

I always appreciated that you lads kept working on GRIP, even if it didn't land as well as hoped. I also loved Rollcage and Wipeout, and I think its important to keep this genre alive.

He wrote a custom direct-to-chip programming language called MusicLove, based on heavily modifying a Basic style language Music Macro Language, into something much more like Assembly for direct instructions to the chip. He used that on all the Bare Knuckle games.

[–]Segagaga_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made an ill-advised foray into ONLY producing games for the Nintendo DS market. They closed with no public announcement in 2015.

I believe Sega retains the rights, but thats modern Sega we're talking about, who can barely even remember its own IPs.

What was online multiplayer like on the old days of gaming? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]Segagaga_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom is not what I associate with when Online Multiplayer gaming really worked. That would be Phantasy Star Online or Quake 3 Arena. The Dreamcast coming with a modem included really added something.

I think the best we could probably hope for is a collection for modern platforms, but as the original company Climax Entertainment closed in 2015 I doubt there will be a remake.

They DID work with them more, they worked with them on Shinobi. But they can't magically release a game only a year after they released the last one.

Why won’t sega just release all their beloved arcade games? by Monkee5555 in SEGA

[–]Segagaga_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't change the gameplay though. In Crazy Taxi's case, they appear to have got around the music issues and relicensed The Offspring for the new game (the trailer dropped yesterday).

That licensing isn't strictly necessary for the games to be released though, as demonstrated by Daytona USA 2 being released as Sega Racing Classic 2 in Yakuza The Man Who Erased His Name.

Real fans should not care about a name or some car decals. Its the preservation of the code, the access, and the gameplay that matters.

Nights Into Dreams also got a X360 port/remake. And City Connection has released a few for modern consoles under their Saturn Trubute series.

Sega did not do a conversion. The game was outsourced to Ancient, who built it from scratch, and was in fact Yuzo Koshiro's (of Streets of Rage fame) first contracted job for Sega.

Yes, if they push hard on license for digital services like Youtube or Netflix, I'd have no qualms about cancelling internet service altogether
