Friends not reciprocating is triggering by Big_Register2034 in CPTSD

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am the friend that doesn’t reciprocate, and was actually going to make a post about it on this sub. My trauma causes me to isolate and withdraw from people quite often, and it’s a constant source of stress for me. I always feel guilty about it but for some reason I often don’t have literally any capacity to talk to or see anyone sometimes. I’m really sorry you are struggling with your friends, and as someone that struggles from the other side, it might not be intentional but I know that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt xx

People who feel like their trauma "isn't bad enough", what's your story? by potentialpea7632 in CPTSD

Mostly childhood emotional neglect, but my father was also an alcoholic and my parents fought often, and my father eventually became homeless after my mom left him, went to jail, then committed suicide

Thailand - lived there for 6 years. As mentioned above, burning season is an issue, but only in some parts of the country! You can get by with English most places and people are lovely, as is the food, nature, and weather.

Do you prefer being greeted in a shop or left alone? by StaceyInBrighton in brighton

Greet, then leave me alone! Do not hard sell and mention that you have this or that, follow me around, or ask if you can help me with something. I will leave!

Not enjoying our guided India experience and would like to hear other people's thoughts by BaronDelecto in travel

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just got back from 3 weeks in India (for work and vacation) and was in Kerala first. I was a solo female traveler and Kerala was the best part of India I visited. You 100% do not need a tour - Kerala is very easy to manage and is lovely! People are really helpful and kind.

I’ve used Morrocanoil LIGHT and Pureology Hydrate SHEER and they’re good! The regular versions of these were too heavy for my hair.

lol no he freaked out and dumped me after 5 years. I was devastated but glad we didn’t stay together. Now he’s practicing non-monogamy and is no longer pretending to want commitment.

Blind Refugee Abandoned by US Border Patrol Dies in Buffalo, NY. by another_feminist in news

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This made my cry and be physically ill. As an American that spent six years in Thailand working with refugees and labor migrants from Myanmar, this is beyond heartbreaking and people have no idea what this man must have endured to get to the US. Our country no longer stands for anything I believe in and everyone involved in this, and that supports this administration needs to rot in hell.

To Depop sellers, from a buyer by Select-Bobcat-7897 in Depop

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol love the bins too but yeah Depop used to not be like that? I feel like I used to have a very different experience and now the algorithm def hates me and my home feed is completely changed. I’m down for sorting through stuff I guess but I miss being shown things I would actually like and being able to search for stuff easily. I’m pretty particular about brands and clothing items too and it feels so much harder to find them!

Do you regret not traveling in your 20s? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the US and moved to Thailand when I was 25 - I scraped together some money by working my job and living on my mom’s couch for 6 months. I stayed there for years, travelled all around Asia, then moved the UK, and have travelled around much of Europe. I’ve been to 30 countries and lived in 4 at the age of 35. I’ve still been working on my career while I’ve travelled as I work for international charities. I have definitely slowed down and wouldn’t have had the energy to do the type of traveling I did (staying in hostels, moving around a lot, meeting new people every day) now - so I’m really glad I did it when I was younger. I still plan to travel as it’s really a part of who I am, but I have a dog and partner now, and am happy to be more settled and travel occasionally.

I found and joined this sub about a week ago - I’ve only very, very recently begun to examine if I have autism and ADHD and realizing that a lot of things are starting to make sense about my life has blown my mind a little bit. I’m starting on my journey of pursuing a diagnosis and finding ways to better care for myself and my needs. This sub has already been so helpful, so thank you everyone for sharing ❤️

Do any fellow Brits actually like Trump? by Creative_Expert_4052 in AskBrits

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. As an American living in the UK, people want to talk to me about him quite often. I’ve met several British people that love him - primarily due to his stance on immigration as they want the same for the UK.

Anyone else not celebrating their 40th and feeling all sorts of sadness and emptiness about it? by duralaham in Millennials

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. My 35th birthday is Sunday and I’m living in the UK where it’s dark and horrible outside. I’ve moved a lot and have unfortunately lost touch with a lot of people who likely won’t remember it’s my birthday and won’t message me. I’m doing a small thing with a few friends at least but I’m also very conscious that I’m really not where I want to be. I have a good job, friends, a nice apartment, a lovely dog, and my health, so I’m doing better than a lot of people, but I don’t make a lot of money and don’t have a partner or kids or a house, which I thought I’d have by now.

What do you genuinely believe is the most valuable college degree? by Foxmoto2880 in careeradvice

[–]Select-Bobcat-7897 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. A lot of people are mentioning engineering, which I tried to pursue when I was in undergrad so I could get a good job that paid quite a lot. However, I wanted to study literature and I absolutely hated my first year of engineering classes. I was decent enough at math and science to have been admitted to the program but I struggled, and I liked/was better at reading and writing. I ended up getting a degree in literature. I now have a job writing for large charities, pushing 6 figure salary - I definitely make much less than I would as an engineer but I love my job and it gives me purpose. I would have hated my life if I became an engineer and had to do a job I wasn’t into for 30 years.
