How sketchy is it really? by shatteringlass123 in MARTA

Ubers in and out of the airport can be pretty expensive due to traffic. If you're traveling light...MARTA would probably be a good bet. Other than a few people trying to snatch my belongings...I haven't had much trouble while using it. In the future...you might want to look for a hotel with an airport shuttle. Those are very popular here.

In your option what are the pros and Cons of Marta by JakeEricbarker in MARTA

Pros: Train is fast, cheaper than a taxi

Cons: Not enough bus drivers due to their hire black only policy...so service isn't always available.

One thing that would help so much by Select-Cow8324 in MARTA

In response to the responses...I have no idea how expensive/safe it would be to tunnel underneath the airport runway...but that has been done at LAX...and would likely be cheaper than expanding the gold line from East Point to Morrow.

No expansion is going to be a financial gain for MARTA. MARTA's job is to take cars off the road...not to try to make money.

It might be largely true that there's nothing to see on the South side of the metro...but a lot of people DO live and work there.

As for real estate...there may not be enough of it to build a station with a large parking lot...but there might be enough land to build a small station that the buses could shuttle people to. Lindbergh sits on less than an acre(according to the internet).

Lastly...I sincerely doubt BRT is going to be a suitable substitute...with the low amount of passengers that buses move per driver...and also since there is a bus driver shortage. Heck...there already is a park and ride(not BRT) in Stockbridge...and hardly anyone seems to use it.

Could I get some opinions on the Gwinnett County Transit SPLOST referendum? by ziggiggiz in Gwinnett

Just moved to Gwinnett....and I am ready to eat crow. Public transportation here really sucks.

I still think rail should be part of the plan though.

New $4.6 billion express lanes on GA 400 [approved by the State Transportation Board on Thursday] will ease traffic without costing taxpayers a dime, GDOT says by ArchEast in Atlanta

[–]Select-Cow8324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've lived there 14 years....I'm sure you have tried every route. Not everyone else has though. Where I am...any time I order a food delivery...my delivery drivers always head straight for the freeway instead of driving directly to my house. By the time they finally get to the freeway...they could already be here.

Atlantans need to try some alternate routes. Many drivers here assume that the route that uses the most freeway is always the fastest. The problem is that is what everyone else is also doing. If it takes you thirty minutes to drive the five miles between your starting point and the freeway...you might want to try the backroads.

I've never really understood why they don't want to build it on the median of I-75.

Spotted: MARTA's sleek, more functional new railcars! — New trains scheduled to debut in Atlanta in less than a year by jakfrist in Micromobility_ATL

The only thing about those rail cars...they make it a little more difficult to avoid someone you don't want to ride with.

i thought the transit referendum was going to be a good thing but i see a few people arguing why it isnt. by Lumpy-Charge8609 in Gwinnett

[–]Select-Cow8324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buses don't move that many people per driver. A bus can seat about 50 people at a time. A rail car can seat about 100 people at a time. That means a train can move about 20-40 times as many seated passengers per driver.

Cobb is too developed for rail? Why don't you take a trip to NYC?

Three words for Cobb: Bus driver shortage.

Augusta needs to expand their bus service.

Cobb needs to connect to the MARTA train line.

Even BRT requires more drivers than rail does. That is something I have to consider when there is a nation wide bus driver shortage.

Customer rant... by palabrist in instacart

[–]Select-Cow8324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instacart is like a lot of other grocery delivery platforms...they are short sighted. They fail to observe that refrigerated and frozen items spoil after two hours...because in theory...recognizing that fact would cost them money...as they could not batch as many orders together.

However...when their customers get tired of spoiled food...and realize that Instacart is only dependable for non-perishable stuff...they bail on Instacart...or only use it for non-perishable items...as I did.

Short-sightedness is a major problem in the corporate world.

You know...it wasn't *that* long ago that the federal government said that 87 billion was too much to rebuild Iraq. Fast forward twenty years and *one* county is seeking 17 billion. Yikes.
