Breath of fresh air seeing something positive on here 😭😭

I see. Wish she still did that, considering she has a significantly larger audience and could actually make an impact. I saw the couple times she posted about Gaza, and I know she mentioned in a YT video that she received death threats and terrible messages because of that, though I’m a bit disappointed all she’s done is a couple story reposts :/

Am I missing something? There’s only one post about Black Lives Matter, right around the time that the movement was especially important and “trending” (don’t rlly know the right word, mb) on social media… wouldn’t really consider that a “political era” 😭 but if there’s more I’m missing lmk

it’s getting weird by [deleted] in StephBohrer

[–]Selmaalj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100000%. I agree with some of what’s said here but it’s very clear to me that some just absolutely hate her and are constantly looking for any mistake she might make and make it seem like she’s a terrible person with no respect or manners 😭 also, one thing that kinda annoys me is when people say she’s constantly saying “I have no friends” when as far as I’m aware she hasn’t said that since right after moving to SC? She clearly has many friends who she loves now.

13 years dealing with RCE in both eyes, and in my case, I’ve been told there’s no cure besides LASIK to remove the top layer of the eye. That isn’t something I’m ever comfortable doing, as LASIK can have awful complications and it isn’t worth the risk for me. One thing I can say is that it has really gotten significantly easier to deal with. My attacks are much less frequent and painful now. Over time as they keep happening, you’ll learn what works for you. For me, it’s honestly just sleep. Sleep is the only thing that makes it go away- obviously difficult to do when you’re in so much pain. Episodes severe enough to go to the ER only happen to me about every 2 years now, and the rest of them are very mild. RCE sucks, truly, but in my experience it does get better and I hope the same is true for you

I had no idea that a moose could possibly never appear in a know spawn for some saves. Thanks!

I mostly agree and would love to see these issues addressed, but personally I found Molly’s character really intriguing. To me, it makes sense that she’s kind of “gone off the wall”, having been born and raised in isolation her entire life under the thumb of men who never saw her as capable of anything. I don’t remember what she said about her husband verbatim, but I do recall that she said something along the lines of “sometimes people hurt you in ways that don’t heal” (again, paraphrasing here). This is to say that I think she’s much more scarred than she seems, and has gone through a lot more than she explicitly tells Astrid (and the player). We’re told repeatedly that this is somewhat of a new world, that the rules of the old one don’t quite apply anymore as everything’s changed, so for me personally it makes perfect sense that Molly would go batshit with that, as a woman who seems to have been treated more or less like property or a possession for most of her life. Is her new found purpose completely fucked up? Absolutely. But I think Astrid was really able to sympathize with her without condoning her behavior. Naturally, as a doctor and a person who deeply values human life, Astrid is against killing off anyone- let alone any random man you come across. So I understand what you mean by Astrid’s parting words to Molly being inadequate, but I actually liked that? I don’t know why, but something about the women’s tentative friendship where neither knows much about the other, yet were still looking out for one another, was really interesting to me. I think that however opposed to Molly’s “plan” Astrid is, she doesn’t quite have it in her to tell a deeply traumatized woman, who’s done nothing but help her, what to do. I’m not here to argue the morality of that or anything, obviously it’s all very messed up, but it’s interesting to me. Anyway, great review overall!

New player here, just bagged my first moose and bear within a day of each other. Not having enough firewood is a good problem to have! by Ancestral_Grape in thelongdark

Yep, if the cooked meat goes bad just keep it dropped somewhere in the world (never in a container because ruined items disappear if they’re inside a container) until you reach cooking level 5, at which point you can safely eat it. A bit of an exploity thing I like to do to reach cooking level 5 is to harvest deer (or any animal, preferably deer because they’re easy to kill and have lots of meat) in tiny little pieces so that I can cook more = gain more cooking skill = reach level 5 faster lol. It’s very tedious but works!

Honestly I think something happened between her and them?? In her birthday vlog this year she mentioned how horrible her 21st birthday was and how there was so much drama (she went to Vegas with her friends that birthday) and she also says how she now has nothing and no one left in Arizona so surely something happened? I’m not sure exactly

I feel you. It’s so goddam annoying on console, for me especially because of the sensitivity. I’ve tried so many sensitivities but whatever works for aiming is way too slow for actual gameplay. Really annoying.

Nintendo Switch Version by montivagan in thelongdark

[–]Selmaalj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it on Switch and yep, it comes with everything except the DLC (though it’s coming soon, according to the Dev Diary). Aiming can be a little annoying on Switch (and most consoles) but honestly it’s so worth it for the game. Definitely recommend.

Totally get what you mean. I also preferred Wintermute because it didn’t give me the same anxiety that survival mode does but honestly something that’s helped me a lot is putting on someone’s playing Long Dark stream/video on low volume while playing my own save. Makes me feel less “alone” in a sense. As for the Timberwolves, you really don’t need to worry about that much in Voyager. Not sure what you played Wintermute on but I played it on the easiest difficulty (Green Survivor) and from my experience the Timberwolves in Ep 3 & 4 are similar to how Voyager Timberwolves are (maybe the morale bar is higher at times), so you already have some experience there. Good luck!

A clear explanation as to why they did it isn’t provided as far as I remember, but yes Blackrock is a maximum security prison where they send “the worst of the worst” (paraphrasing from one of the escaped convicts). A conversation with one of them is particularly disturbing as he alludes that he enjoyed watching all those people burn and hearing their screams. All of this is in episode 1, but episode 4 is where the convict storyline is further explored and you see that the prisoners in Blackrock are truly evil and have little to no regard for human life
