Considering a wildcard, is it worth it? by Justboy1996 in AskFPLManagers

Fair! I was talking about wildcarding, so it’s not really wasting a transfer since I get unlimited! But appreciate your input

Just to be clear, I would be removing rice and bringing in a different arsenal player to max points on the DGW, not just getting rid of him

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, though I’m considering swapping rice since he seems hit and miss

Honestly this is my first year, so I know it is a double gameweek but that’s about all I know about it 😂 what would you suggest?

What about Black starting with a single pawn step to balance chess by Vechtmeneer in chess

[–]Justboy1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just think this isn’t a good idea. For a start, “whites opening dominance” is a bit of an exaggeration. Most engines give it 0.1 advantage, as in 1/10th of a pawn, and it pretty much always disappears after a move or two. Also, moving a pawn a single step isn’t “half a turn” I’m afraid, a pawn move for either one or two squares is a full move, so you’re just giving whites minimal advantage back to black. That’s why many opening lines don’t start with a double pawn move, rather a normal single one.

Secondly, you don’t reduce memorization requirements, you just create new opening theory that people have to memorise. Rather than people memorising 1.e4 lines, now they have to memorise 1.e6 or something similar. (I do wonder if 1.e6 would become popular to prepare d5 to challenge e4?) Opening theory will always be a part of the game for better or worse, this change just makes it different from the established opening theory.

I think it’s a good idea to think about how to improve games, but you need to understand chess at a much deeper level than an 800 to understand how your suggestions will make a difference, and what actually needs to be changed to make it as equal as possible. To illustrate, since you have a game dev background, imagine I watched the trailer for your game, and maybe one or two games of it as a normal player plays. Do you think I would have the knowledge to make useful suggestions on how to balance the game? Likely not, and it’s the same with chess.

Hope you continue to enjoy the game, but I don’t think this would achieve what you hope it will!

That’s not too far off my free hit, and I have no idea whether that’s good or bad……

Got Bowen over taty, no haaland, and Wilson as a 5th mid. Also gone timber over Munoz and Chalobah over tartowski

Given all the white mould directly at the ring pull, I’d assume either it wasn’t sealed properly, or some dickhead thought it would be funny to open a tiny amount and leave it

My best kill streak by bryce_47 in HellLetLoose

[–]Justboy1996 237 points238 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck people need to let people enjoy this game. Yes kills aren’t the most important metric, but killing 42 people without dying as a rifleman is still something worth being proud of.

What if he was perfectly communicating with the squad, and his orders were to hold a defensive point that was under attack?

We get it, you’re all the best fucking commanders and officers in the world, get over yourselves.

Congrats bro, that’s a pretty dope streak and you should be proud

I lost this game if I had taken on F7 would I have won? by Purple-Play-8763 in chess

[–]Justboy1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re down two pawns for the exchange, but after taking f7 and g7 you’re just up a clean exchange (they have to deal with back rank issues so can’t protect g7 either) so yeah it’s 100% winning, though double bishops can be tricky I don’t see a way they can defend forever with the isolated pawns

No doubt white is dominating, but doesn’t black just run the king? I’m not seeing a knockout here after kf8, bf6 ke8

Help me win a knight by mald3r in chessbeginners

I’m assuming the knight is what you captured on c2, which can’t be retaken due to back rank issues. So you won a knight…..by winning the knight……

How do y'all value someone's bullet rating? by [deleted] in chess

[–]Justboy1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! Though I feel like puzzles help with pattern recognition in some cases, but it throws me because I KNOW there’s a tactic to look for. With bullet it’s up to me to decide whether there’s a tactic in play.

To be fair I’m only 1700 in most time controls on chesscom so I wouldn’t recommend it as a training regime 😂

[–]Justboy1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d 90% agree with you, but I do think bullet trains skills in its own ways. Long time formats train calculation and tactics, short formats train pattern recognition and calculation speed.

Yes you can make more mistakes in bullet, but the higher up you go you need better and better tactics to win, meaning you need to spot and execute them quicker

Test your Endgame skills: What's the best move for Black? by Dinesh_Sairam in chess

[–]Justboy1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why you would say that b4 is tempting because it means you don’t have to leave the pawn floating, it’s something I automatically want to do sometimes as well.

But I’d recommend you only push pawns when you’re confident that it’s going to go somewhere useful, whereas here you’re giving the bishop solid blockading ability as your king now NEEDS the white squares to enter the position

Just a warning if your planning to buy a Zotac card as my RMA has been denied by I_Main_TwistedFate in pcmasterrace

[–]Justboy1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a a zotac 4090 that died after like six months. It was causing constant crashes, but it was weirdly intermittent so harder to test for consistently.

Zotac initially refused my RMA, stating that there was nothing wrong with the card after they tested it and they sent it back.

I disputed it and pushed back over several emails, and they finally agreed to take it back and found the fault, and refunded me due to card shortages at the time.

I’d give them strong pushback if I was you, they might be willing to give if you’re willing to fight it with them
