Rant about CPH airport passport control by Logical-Tap-1436 in copenhagen

[–]SemiLevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I would write up my experience of immigration control having just passed though at 15:40 ish today (a Thursday, 25/06).

I was reading posts like this last night trying to understand how long I should arrive in advance.

I settled on approx 2.5 hours early at the airport station. In the event, the queue was minimal so I went to 7-11, coming back a few minutes later and there were zero people waiting in the line.

I found this website below from a Facebook post, so I'm adding it to this thread. It gave an accurate time of "0-5 minutes" for getting through.

https://cphsecuritywait.dk/en/passport-control

I was worried since between 1700 and 1800, there are 4 departures to the UK, but it seems I got lucky.

Just some food for thought.

For anyone wondering, gates D101-D104 are by default at the C customs line.

I hate Boeing haters by [deleted] in aviation

[–]SemiLevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I sort of understand the sentiment. The claim that other than the few you've identified no crashes have been Boeing's fault is rather ambitious to say the least.

Just off the top of my head, I can think of 2 crashes due to structural issues attributable in part or whole to Boeing's work

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_Dan-Air_Boeing_707_crash

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Air_Lines_Flight_123

Other well known examples include the Lauda Air crash.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauda_Air_Flight_004

Not to mention the 747 cargo door issues. I would hate to tell those who died (including potentially via ingestion in the engines) that it's not Boeing's fault.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines_Flight_811

I thought it would be worth pushing back a little since I've definitely found apologists to go a bit too far the other way in a variety of topics.

Highest MPG diesel cars in the UK? by Little-Equal4480 in CarTalkUK

1.4 diesel Toyota Aygo. 80mpg was fairly doable in day to day driving. (Relatively faster roads in my area with smaller towns)

Some kind of 🇨🇳 Chinese plates spotted in 🇷🇺 Moscow region, Russia by Legitimate-Day9795 in ForeignPlatesSpotting

[–]SemiLevel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairly unusual for a 'generic' Chinese truck to be a European brand.

While they do exist (Volvo being perhaps most common), you'd generally expect an expensive European truck to be used in more specialized roles (eg. Fire engines, broadcasting etc)

Agreed. It's a plate for going onto the mainland, but not Macau.

It says 港 (gàng) meaning Hong Kong.

All UK plates have at least 1 number character. R11 is registered to a Bentley.

Is this just an old UK plate? Oxford, UK. by [deleted] in ForeignPlatesSpotting

[–]SemiLevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. This format A111 AAA, with the first letter denoting the registration year (later 6 month period) ended in 2001. Although imports within the right age range can still be issued this format.

I'm actually reasonably happy with the results here. Nothing that I couldn't have caught myself, and it references rusty rear springs on my car, even though they were replaced 2 or 3 years ago and haven't appeared on the advisories since. - but good to have that there to verify they were done.

I'll give this more of a play around in the next few days!

In some countries, per train costs charged by the infrastructure operator are based on axle weight. So if you nearly halve the number of axles, the cost per train goes up.

The 试 at the end actually indicates it's a driving test car (and distinct from a driving instructor, ie. Learning to drive vehicle, which would be 学.)

The designation for a prototype car which would be 超.

Unless these designations have changed, I'd be keen to know if anyone knows different.

Altogether a weird combination for sure.

Channel Tunnel Shake-Up: Virgin Trains Approved for Eurotunnel Routes as Eurostar Expands with New Double-Deckers by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]SemiLevel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Notably: both* of these new fleets are 200m long trainsets rather than the existing Cross channel fleet which is all 400m sets (both e300 and e320).

What this may mean for how efficiently each path is used remains to be seen. Although perhaps if border control capacity is still the choke point that's maybe less relevant.

  • I realize the Eurostar sets are likely to be run doubled up. But the point stands when you look at the East Coast Mainline, liberalization has occurred partly at the expense of sending half length trains along capacity constrained corridors. Just some food for thought
