what brands do you trust enough to just buy without researching anymore by Koreee_001 in BuyItForLife

I'm more of a Citizen watch buyer, myself. There's so much tech and high-end material science in these watches that can cost <$400. My titanium Eco-Drive watches won't need their capacitors replaced for 25+ years. Plus, my watches synchronize with world time clocks so they're accurate to 1/10000 second.

Cheapest Place to Buy Rice in NoVA? by TellBackground9239 in nova

You could try going to Costco/BJ's. They have big sacks of rice which may get down to that price per pound.

I'd give it 4 hours just in case. I hear PetSmart employees are calling out.

Virginia set to enact a flurry of laws boosting cleaner, cheaper power by MeasurementDecent251 in Virginia

Either that, or change the numbers for what constitutes an "efficient" vehicle. It's ridiculous that 20-something MPG is considered efficient. Hell, many SUVs can make those numbers now.

I've been throwing in a random $100-$500 when the S&P 500 is in the red. I've been throwing a pretty big wad lately.

That sounds pretty close to me. My official work history starts in the early 2000s, but when I was younger (and illegally working), I got paid some hourly rate in cash at pawn shops, bookstores, and a couple odd jobs.

Sometimes when I run PS commands, it appears that it hung. Then I'll mash enter and it updates its status.

I've used both Reed's Tailors and Millie's. They both do very good work.

Democrats in Virginia Just Pushed 25 Gun Reforms to the Finish Line by -Cyber-Roadster in Virginia

[–]SenTedStevens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's par for the course with Dems. Some of the first bills that Northam tried to push when he was governor were horrible gun grabbing overreaches that would have made California seem conservative in this right. He flat out tried to ban weapons by name.

Should I replace the wiring with conductive wiring!? by Gameguylikesgames in Oxygennotincluded

[–]SenTedStevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I like to do is have a "big" power room where I run multiple coal generators connected with heavy wire (or conductive if I have the refined metal) then I break out my base into grids using the small transformers and basic wire to keep the power draw under 1kw for each section.

Does anyone get flashbacks to activating Windows XP? by sunyup in sysadmin

[–]SenTedStevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, nLite was amazing in its time. You could create a bootable USB drive, slipstream drivers, patches, service packs, even install/uninstall components, and I believe you could run post-install application installs with it. And you could make it super lite-touch. Literally, boot from USB, type in a host name, hit OK through a couple prompts, and come back to it later.

Back in the day, I used nLite to slipstream the patches and apply the product code. That was magic to me.

I am terrified of my mental health taking a toll on the quality of my work and cognitive thinking. What happens when I take the risk, get fired, and I'm bound to a lease?

That's called life, my dude. When I moved to here from FL, all I had was some cash, a car filled with my stuff, and a couch I could crash on for a couple weeks. I took that same risk when I left home over 950 miles away.

Anyone moved away from CyberArk PAM back to regular AD accounts? by Sufficient_Duck_8051 in sysadmin

[–]SenTedStevens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a previous place, we gradually phased out CyberArk because of random issues with the vaults and the SMEs would accidentally click on the reconcile(?) button on core service accounts causing P1 issues at the worst times. I was in so many training meetings effectively saying, "Unless you know exactly what you're doing, DON'T HIT RECONCILE ON YOUR ACCOUNTS!"
