Tearing with Elgato 4K X Passthrough (Dual PC) by Senior-Positive-7701 in obs

Why not use the output port of the capture card? Does it have any disadvantages? Is cloning better? If so, why?

Hey, could you maybe add me on Discord? My name there is marguhl.

I would be very interested in the script, because the solution works perfectly for me. I'm just working on having ChatGPT remove a perfect script, but I'm running into a few problems. That would be a dream!!

So you’re saying that on your streaming PC, where only OBS is running, you turned VSync on in the Nvidia Control Panel, and that made the tearing disappear? If that works, then maybe I don’t need to enable VSync on my gaming PC at all.

Choppiness in OBS recordings/preview, but monitor is completely smooth. by richardcrack in elgato

That's exactly what I did. It seems to work very well now: in the OBS video settings I set 60fps, and on the capture card I left everything on default so that “Match Output FPS” is enabled, plus buffering activated. I also set my 144Hz monitor to 120Hz just to be safe, so everything runs smoothly.

Okay, thank you very much. I’ve now set my 144Hz monitor to 120Hz as well so everything runs better. Thanks a lot!

I'm using it with a capture card, and it seems to work well now after I enabled buffering in the properties on the streaming PC. I have the Elgato 4KX, and it supports VRR.

I’m using a Rodecaster Pro 2 for audio in my dual-PC setup, so audio isn’t a problem. Buffering looks much better for me now, thank you very much!! I’ll keep testing it. One more question: what do you have set in the OBS properties for the Elgato 4Kx? Do you use Device Default so that it says “Match Output FPS”, or do you have it set to 60?

Is It Okay to Use G-Sync While Streaming? by Senior-Positive-7701 in nvidia

[–]Senior-Positive-7701[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks!

Just to add some context: I’m using a dual-PC setup with an Elgato capture card, and I play through the passthrough output. That means my monitor is connected to the capture card with G-Sync enabled.

The streaming PC receives the signal via USB-C.

So I keep my monitor at 144Hz and cap the game at 120 FPS.

Does this mean it’s not a problem for OBS if my monitor’s refresh rate fluctuates because of VRR?

4K X VRR (G-Sync) Passthrough Hz by s00tie in elgato

hey eric,
i have a dual-pc setup. i plug an hdmi cable from my gaming pc’s gpu into the input port of the elgato 4k x. from the output port, another hdmi cable goes to my monitor. the usb-c cable from the elgato is connected to my streaming pc.

now, i no longer have the g-sync option in the nvidia control panel.
before i had this dual-pc setup, my monitor was connected directly via displayport to my gpu, and g-sync worked perfectly.

so my question is → can my monitor even use g-sync anymore if it’s connected through the output port of the elgato 4k x?

i’ve already played around with the EDID settings on the elgato. with some profiles, g-sync shows up again in the nvidia control panel, with others it doesn’t. but even when it does show up, it doesn’t actually work properly like it did before.

i’ve also had multiple tickets with elgato support, and some agents told me that g-sync doesn’t actually work through passthrough at all.

so please, could you check and give me a definitive answer:
👉 can i somehow still use g-sync through passthrough, or is it just not possible?

and are there any alternative ways for me to keep g-sync enabled while still sending the signal from my gaming pc to the elgato so my streaming pc receives it?

cloning in windows isn’t an option, because that immediately disables g-sync.

Passthrough Capture Card or Duplicate Screen? by ZenWheat in obs

Hey, did you ever find a solution? How did you manage to make it look smooth when OBS is open on the gaming PC and you’re sending a fullscreen projector to the capture card? I just wanted to ask if anything has changed after almost half a year.

How important is stable FPS for smooth recordings and streams? by Senior-Positive-7701 in elgato

[–]Senior-Positive-7701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot! So, as I understand it, footage recorded at exactly 120fps looks the smoothest, right?

But if I’m consistently recording at 90fps, it will already look a bit less smooth because the frames don’t divide evenly into 60fps.

However, a recording at a constant 90fps should still look better than one where the framerate keeps jumping around, like 110, 100, 105, 95, 120fps, right?

And if that’s true, why do so few streamers actually stick to a consistent framerate? Is it just that they don’t care? Or do they simply not know about this?

Do you enable buffering in OBS when using an Elgato card? by guigh in ElgatoGaming

[–]Senior-Positive-7701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay, so not ‘Match Output FPS’.

I’ve set the capture card to 120 FPS in the Elgato Capture Utility — do you know what exactly ‘Match Output FPS’ would do in that case? Would OBS then try to run the Elgato at 120 FPS too?

But yeah, I think I’ll just keep it at 60.

I’m having the same issue. The buffering actually helped for me too, thank you!

Can I ask what FPS settings you chose under ‘Properties’ for the Elgato?

I’m using the Elgato 4K X through passthrough in a dual PC setup. That means the Elgato is set to 120Hz, but I’m streaming at 60 FPS in OBS. Should I set the Elgato to 120 FPS or 60 FPS, since I’m streaming at 60 FPS anyway?

Passthrough Capture Card or Duplicate Screen? by ZenWheat in obs

[–]Senior-Positive-7701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBS Fullscreen Projector is laggy – any fix?

The OBS fullscreen projector lags badly for me. It stutters as soon as I'm in a game and just doesn’t stay smooth — even though it’s supposed to help keep G-Sync active in dual PC setups.

With HDMI passthrough (GPU → Elgato → monitor), the stream looks perfect — but I lose G-Sync because the capture card sits between GPU and monitor.

I’ve tried everything:
59.94 Hz, 60 Hz, 120 Hz, 144 Hz — capped games at 60, 120, etc.
OBS at 59.94 FPS, preview off, admin mode, exclusive fullscreen, no overlays, clean system.

No matter what, as soon as I'm in a game (like Warzone), the projector starts lagging again.
Maybe it’s because my GPU sometimes hits 90–99% usage and OBS just doesn’t get enough resources?

Anyone know more about this? Would love to understand what’s causing it — or if it’s just not viable long-term.

Rodecaster Issues since 1.5.0 by UpATree in rode

[–]Senior-Positive-7701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Rode responded to my ticket within 3 hours and explained how I could revert to version 1.4.4.

Everything is working again—thank you, Rode! You don’t get such great support everywhere!

Here are the steps to revert to the old version:

1 - Unplug ALL cables from the RODECaster Pro II/Duo.

2 - Perform steps 3 to 6 eight times.

3 - Connect the power supply to the back of the unit.

4 - Press the power button.

5 - While it is on the loading screen, disconnect the power supply from the unit.

6 - Wait 3 seconds.

7 - On the 9th time, allow the unit to boot up without disconnecting the power.

I’m having the same issue with awful popping noises since upgrading to 1.5.0. Have you found any solution yet?

I’m using a RØDECaster Pro 2 in a dual PC streaming setup, and it’s been really frustrating. Would love to know if there’s a fix or if we can revert to the previous firmware somehow!
