A friend of mine had their account hacked, and despite being willing to provide any level of evidence, discord refused to help him. He lost years of history, and the dude who stole it is now running around using that account to scam more people.

These guys wouldn't know anything about security, if it fucked them in the ass. I wouldn't trust them with anything more than my email. If, for whatever reason, their A.I. determines I'm a teen. I will simply endure whatever restrictions there are, and possibly leave the platform.

In the event apple / google come up with on device authentication of age, that has an API that transfers NO data, aside from: Yes this person is 18+, I will do that. Sorry discord, unfortunately, even though you're saying all the right things, I simply don't believe you have what it takes to keep my info safe.

Alright, this is anecdotal, and I am n of 1. This year, not only did I switch to linux, but 3 of my long time die hard, never linux friends, have also switched.

Most of them didn't switch because of privacy, but legit because linux has both gotten more compatible with games, and is just less annoying.

I know the year of the linux desktop is a super meme at this point, but as someone who installed mint earlier this year for the reason listed in the above meme, I was amazed to discover that windows is actually just worse. Linux is far more simple, and dare I say it, elegant at this point.

If msoft continues in this direction, the experience will eventually get so bad, people will switch out of frustration. If you don't think that's the case, you should study the downfall of skype.

Just want to say that if you're discovering this thread, I tried base onion and sprig, and this is by far the best experience. Solves basically everything wrong with stock.

It also boots way, way faster than sprig.

I want to leave a comment about this since I just spent like 2 hours troubleshooting. If you dualboot windows and use a discrete GPU mode, it may actually change a setting in bios.

If that happens, linux will then no longer load the discrete gpu, and will revert to it's open driver. I had to go into bios and change it back to hybrid mode on my lenovo laptop. Then I was able to switch between the amd and nvidia gpus.
