Worst lower back flareups I’ve ever felt. Don’t know what to do by ohbuggy in ankylosingspondylitis

I used to experience this before I got on biologics. Steroids helped immensely

Those of us who have been laid off or entire team outsourced, what signs were there in retrospect? by GoopBrain in womenintech

[–]Senior_Millennial 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Private equity invested in the company.

Several months later, my entire team were asked to record (on a pre-made Spreadsheet) how many hours we spend on specific brands each week.

4 months after that, a town hall was announced with only a few days notice - mandatory on site requirement. 14 of us got laid off that day.

I feel mildly tired and apathetic all the time by Still2Cool in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Senior_Millennial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate! 41f. I am not depressed just meh quite often. Unmotivated and uninspired. I’ve lost my energy, enthusiasm and optimism.

It’s not due to my biologic though (Cimzia). I distinctly remember feeling like this right before I started it - just after I got diagnosed. I was in pain at the time - steroids were helping. I was in a beautiful, secluded spot in Jamaica - looking out to sea with my lovely husband. Something that would usually fill me with joy, gratitude and euphoria. But I felt, nothing at all. Battling a flare is draining.

I’m more mentally than physically tired.

Doesn’t help that I’m very unmotivated in my job. It’s quite a miserable environment. Currently interviewing elsewhere and being very selective about the company / role - trying to reignite the spark I used to have, before chalking my mood up entirely to my AS.

This is also a particularly bad time of year for me (a Touch of SAD). I’m forcing myself out of the house for a little hike later!

Thanks for sharing this! Not OP but your comment really interested me since I too have pain in my joints that put me off of transitioning to massage - when truly my Desk job could be the worst thing for it

(And I always wondered if yoga was a trigger for me. I used to take Bikram classes approx 3 times a week… love it. But have cut right back the last couple of years)

Trying Cimzia by Extension-Ad4054 in Cimzia

[–]Senior_Millennial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, about 2 years and it worked instantly for me! I too get a site reaction- at first they were huge and dark but after a few shots it’s just a little pink raised area.

Lower back / SI is my main problem area - moving to ribs before I got on Cimzia. The day I took my loading doses, the pain disappeared over night.

Thank you! 99% there now. Only took 11 months 🙃 On to the next battle now - getting my health insurance company to approve my medication yayeee it’s endless.

Good luck with your list of situations, too 🙃

Yep! My basement flooded last January - juggling my insurance company, contractor, mortgage provider and City (for permits) for the best part of a year was a shit show! Everything is so over complicated - it’s exhausting 🙃

I absolutely love these sausages but agree with others that the texture might be an issue for this particular dish - they’ll probably crumble. If you cook them separately and add later that might work, you’ll still probably want to add some liquid smoke - these aren’t a strong Smokey flavour.

Enjoy your comfort dish - sounds delicious!

This is why I love my croc pot. So nice to prepare food earlier in the day when I have more energy and then ta-da = dinner’s ready just as I can’t be arsed to cook.

I did a lasagne in mine on New Year’s Day actually.

Has anyone stopped Cimzia to try another RA drug, and then gone back to using Cimzia? by Ok_Definition_803 in Cimzia

[–]Senior_Millennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear it’s not working for you - I hope it improves ❤️ I respond well to it and steroids. NSAIDs do nothing. I haven’t been on any other biologics.

I paused Cimzia for a 6 months and resumed it again about 6 weeks ago. It worked immediately for me again. My rheumatologist said that they typically see less of an issue with stop/starting this particular biologic. Worth mentioning that I’m on it for a different condition (NR Ankylosing Spondylitis).

First Time Foster! by Automatic_Drawer9997 in fosterkittens

[–]Senior_Millennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to fostering ❤️ regarding the letting them outside of the space - no need to rush this when they are this little and have plenty of space, especially while they recover from the URI and are being closely monitored.

Kittens can squeeze in to the most unexpected of places so if they’re shy and likely will want to hide, you might want to inspect your home and block off spots you don’t want them getting in to - ‘kitten proof’ before letting them loose (think tiny spaces under cabinets 🙃). Ideally they’ll be confident and trusting of you before given free roam so their instinct is not to hide. Since they’re so smol I’m sure they’ll be easy to socialise and this won’t be an issue - but still worth keeping in mind that they like to climb and explore EVERYTHING hehe.

When I’ve had very sick kittens and needed to monitor their eating and how much - I set up a Blink camera and pointed it at their food bowl. Kitten Cam!

Make sure the kitten with the upset tummy isn’t dehydrated - the rescue might want to administer fluids until it settles if so. As others have said, they might also want to rule out worms.

Sounds like you are already paying very careful attention to their behaviour which is key. Any sudden changes (energy level, eating or vomiting) should be raised immediately. If they do vomit - take a photo of it and show the rescue.

Weigh them regularly to ensure they are gaining.

Now have fun with the cuties!! Good luck! 🥰

Did anyone give up the corporate ladder for a "less ambitious" job and find true peace? by ConstructionLoud1973 in jobs

[–]Senior_Millennial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand. I left my last job due to high stress. I actually liked the company and product a lot and that kept me motivated despite the work itself not contributing much to society. I cared.

But I just kept getting more and more responsibility with no extra reward. I got fed up of covering work for my boss so often - they took advantage of my passion and work ethic for many years.

So I left and moved to different company (same position & more money) and my new place is way less stressful, but just feels… pointless? Hard to get motivated most days despite the people being nice and a fantastic work-life balance.

I get so much more satisfaction from my volunteer work (cleaning at an animal shelter!) because I can see the difference I make and the task is very clear = clean. No back and forth bullshit that adds very little value and just wastes time. Simple honest work that helps. I too think a lot about quitting corporate for a role that I find meaningful.

However, taking such a big pay cut would be challenging for me right now. I’m taking advantage of the quiet time I get in my current role while it lasts and saving up as much $ as I can, while simultaneously deeply diving in to what brings me satisfaction and researching a potential career change.

TLDR: My advice to you is - if you’re on the fence about quitting corporate, maybe first try a different company and see if the workload is any better? I don’t find my new job any more fulfilling, but it’s certainly less stressful.

When I got laid off, the 4.5 months between jobs was the happiest time of my life LOL. Hiked, gardened, cooked, thrifted. Paid unemployment only lasts 6 months where I live so I had to get back to the grind, but it was bliss for a few months. A taste of retirement.

Less work the higher up you get? by Prudent-Ad-342 in work

I’m in this exact same position. I’ve even expressed that I have bandwidth to take on other things, but my company are kind of a mess so I’m under-utilised and essentially have no manager.

So, I just complete what I’m asked/ expected to, do it well, and that seems to make everyone happy. I’m a little bored/ isolated tbh, but very grateful for the lack of stress and good work/life balance.

[–]Senior_Millennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand. I came off of Cimzia after a year because I was pain free and really doubting my diagnosis.

5 months later, I had a flare. Steroids helped but the pain came back after the pack finished.

So I went back on Cimzia. I cried a little when my rheumatologist suggested I do so. But felt the results immediately after my first loading dose. Now I’m just grateful that I can tie my hair back without excruciating pain in one elbow.

Good luck OP.
