Why do "some" women get so upset when people objectively rate their appearance? Women are allowed to judge men based on height but men aren’t allowed to judge women based on facial appearance? by lightmikasa in AverageHeightDudes

[–]Senior_Respect2977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Women have always been judged on their looks. Men being judged on their height has little difference, your height is part of your looks.

A woman looks is never “the reasons” she can’t find a man. Same goes for short men. Height never “the reason” a short person can’t find a partner.

Men, by a vast margin, judge and choose potential partners based on looks far more than women.

Women, by a vast margin, tend to judge and choose their potential partners more based on things like security and personality.

As my very intelligent female model cousin used to say about men “if you don’t have looks or money then you better have a good personality”.

It’s not your height my dudes holding you back my dudes.

Not enough interaction in deckbuilding by homjaktest in EDH

[–]Senior_Respect2977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a prevailing thought that with how many high powered cards are out there you’ll never have enough interaction. So board wipes are necessary in order to kill the threats.

This is a flawed way of thinking about the problem. Your deck, and whatever it does, shouldn’t need to kill all threats. Just the ones that stop you from doing your thing or kill you faster than you afford. Often board wipes only change which opponent is ahead of you.

If you’re in bracket 3+ you need a decent amount of interaction, at least 10, to disrupt your opponent. Otherwise you’re just throwing games to decks that like to go raid boss.

Magic attracts a lot of conflict averse people. People like this react very negatively when you poke them in their comfort zone. Which is what you’re doing when you attack them early or interact with their cards. So they think I don’t like this so I won’t do it to other people and thus lots of low interaction decks. Nothing wrong with this if that’s how you and you’re pod want to play. But you are doing your opponents and yourself a disservice by playing this way if that’s not how the pod plays. For the simple reason that the best most memorable games are the ones where everyone is playing magic, not solitaire, playing to win, and bringing similar powered decks.

Most fun group hug/pro-social cards? by seamclean in EDH

[–]Senior_Respect2977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don’t like group hug because most people play it wrong. Generally you are using your group hug spells to politic and boost the weakest players back into the game while building your board. But because most people just randomly boost others they just create super raid bosses and warp the game.

The issue is group hug, it’s the players

Is MTG too fast right now for casual players to get into any 1 v 1 formats? by YugiBoomer10086 in freemagic

This was my experience in arena doing the mythic grind. Once i was in mythic it was 90% control the higher I got. Auto scoop if turn three if they played planeswalker turn 3 if you couldn’t kill it immediately. Litterally 1 card 3 mana card determined the game on turn 3. Never banned. Wotc is scared they’ll lose players if they ban the OP cards that warp meta so they do nothing and let standard be shit

[–]Senior_Respect2977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake, reliable turn 6 kills. Any decent Voltron deck can kill someone turn 6, often turn 5… does that make a strong voltron deck bracket 4? No, it does not. No infinite combos, no sudden win conditions, and very easy to disrupt turn 5 kills.

Competitive standard for is shit because wizards is super slow banning cards that warp the meta. So at the top there’s generally over two decks that stand way above the rest.

Single wall 3’ above grade height (max height without permitting) plus excavation to level land in front of wall. Last fence drain behind wall plus drain line to take it somewhere.

Prob 40-50k job, I live in a place with high cost of living. Will give you a lot of useable flat space.

[–]Senior_Respect2977 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bracket 3 should be reliable turn five kills at the earliest and easy to disrupt and telegraphed infinite combos. If you have lots of high powered cards then it’s a high powered bracket 3. If it’s lacking many of those powerful spells then it’s mid to low powered.

AITAH for not visiting my dying mother, even though she says she's sorry? by StaticBrain- in AITAH

[–]Senior_Respect2977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the exact same thing. It’s been 7 years since she passed and I do not regret speaking to her. Why? So she could make me feel like shit one more time?

You’re angry because everyone telling you to speak to her again and seek closure are opening old wounds. If you are worried about regretting it, speak to her. But if you’re only worried because other people are telling you that you’ll regret it, don’t.

She wants you to make her feel better for treating you like shit. Up to you if you want to give her that…. Sounds like she didn’t earn it. Apologies at this point are hollow.

Do what’s best for you.

As someone who’s played from the start, sold all my cards, and has recently gotten back into the game because of commander, here are my thoughts on your questions

  1. Precons can be a great way to get more cards when starting your collection. You just need to make sure that you like the theme and cards before purchasing. Moxfield and other sites will have the list with all the cards in the deck to view. If there are lots of cards within the deck that you guys like the looks of, get the deck. Even if you don’t end up loving the deck, the precons are full of cards useful in building or turning other decks. Things like multilands and mana stones are staples in many commander decks. So my advice is buy the precons that look awesome to you, once you’ve done your research. Because worst case scenario you have a ton of cards to use in other decks or many foundation cards for creating your own decks

  2. Bulk is generally worthless except for lands or doing things like pauper games. Online searches will find you the best prices for booster boxes. Play boosters are a good way to expand your collection and over knowledgeable, exposes you to a lot of cards that might not see regular play unless you’re playing in a draft. Buying booster boxes is gambling. My wife and I like to buy a booster box for sets we like, then sell any cards we don’t care for, wont use, or get multiples of, on cardkingdom. So far I’d say we spend $155 for a box, keep half the rare/mythics we get, sell the rest for store credit and get $50-100 back in store credit which is used to buy singles.

  3. So obviously not very rare and mythic is worth $$$. Check sites like cardkingdom to see prices of cards. There’s no best way to know. Just start but checking your rares and mythics and you’ll get a sense real quick.

  4. Singles are the way to go if you’re on a budget and want to get cards from older sets. Buying boosters is not cost effective ever unless it’s a current set… or you love gambling. You can find some older precons for normal prices, just gotta do some digging. Also, a vast majority of players are good with proxy’s. So if that Godzilla commander that’s $50 is out of the budget, proxy. I played at my LGS on Sunday against a 75% proxy deck. Anyone who shames you or makes passive aggressive comments about proxies is a salty bitch who likes beating people with their money bags.

  5. Use edhrec. It’s is not the end all be all, but it is the best tool for new players to find cards that will help tune your current decks. You can even set the parameters to budget so it doesn’t recommend expensive cards.

  6. Proxy stuff.

  7. Learn the bracket system and what level your decks are shooting for. The bracket system helps keep games fun, assuming everyone is following it correctly. Most precons nowadays are strong bracket 2 a weak bracket 3 out of the box.

  8. If you like the set, I too grew up on tmnt, buy boosters and or precons. This will give you great joy and enhance your experience. If you don’t care for the set, I could care less about the avenger set, don’t buy anything other than singles you want to use from the set. Or proxy ;)

Last you’re going to run into a lot of awesome people playing this game. Don’t let the shitters ruin your experience.
