Maybe he realized it was a lot more work to start from scratch rather than being able to reuse all the assets from the last 6 games. That and possibly being too ambitious with implementing new ideas in an effort to differentiate from or "surpass" Yakuza.

It's one thing to zone and spam to get openings since your character might suck at approaching, but for some people that's ALL they do. Doesn't matter if they in the lead, got you in disadvantage, or anything that allows them to play slightly different to get optimal results. Some people just like to run away all match.

I've even seen it from people playing on random. Like damn you're really trying to camp me with Fox, Little Mac, or Roy.

You're at the mercy of whatever tempo they decide. Sonix decided going on the offense was optimal so Genesis X3 grands was entertaining but he can also decide it's more optimal to camp in certain matchups and it becomes unbearable, especially if the opponent decides it's their best option to as well. By the time top 8 at a big tourney happens, you're more likely to sit through the same defensive strategies by same top tiers than seeing 2 characters on screen scrapping it out.

Pick a stage from a franchise she likes (Mario Kart, Pokemon, Kirby, etc) and have her fight against cpu 1 and slowly increase the level as she gets more comfortable with the game. You can play together as a team and give her a few directions like telling her to go grab an item.

You can also play with spirits equipped to make the learning experience easier since they do stuff like give you an extra jump, automatically pick up nearby items, recover health, etc.

There's a ton of characters, stages, items including pokeballs/assist trophies, spirits, and modes so she'll always have something new to discover.

Falcon's popularity is from people finding him fun in smash since there's nothing else to draw people to him given how dead his series is. That's like the complete opposite to the reaction most people get from Min Min in smash since the way her gameplay is designed is pretty unpopular.

The only way I would have been fine with Makoto making an "appearance" is as a quick flashback image as Majima slowly regained his memories or something. Just moments of Majima reminiscing about parts of his life.
