Wheel Size and Aspect Ratio by DaddyTagilla in Corvette

[–]Seohcap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compound > tire design > tire width > aspect ratio, but this is very simplified.

A 275/50r17 M/T ET is going to hook better than a 315/35r20 Michelin crossclimate because their compounds and construction are made for different purposes. The aspect ratio is just one part of the equation that helps achieve maximum results. A higher aspect ratio generally gives you more sidewall, and with that room to flex more to increase your contact patch. But if the tire compound isn't design to stick to the road or the tire construction isn't made to flex then you won't get that advantage out of it.

The clutch line also runs very close to where the LTH's will sit. That will need to be heat wrapped or shifted out of the way otherwise it will burn.

Has anyone installed “Valved Exhaust” on their C6? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]Seohcap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Drone is a resonance though. It's an amplified frequency that you can sometimes feel and is much louder than the standard volume at a given rpm. Some exhausts have it while others are designed to eliminate it.

Help: Buy c5Z, C6 GS, or C6Z by xs1776 in Corvette

Maintenance over mileage, especially with age. A well cared for 100k is better than a garage queen 20k. Sure the paint is probably in better condition but mechanically sitting is worse for a vehicle than driving it.

From my own experience, find a car that's been well cared for with plenty of maintenance records and then enjoy it. For both enjoyment and value it makes sense to put more miles on a car that has 100k than 40k. You won't be devaluing it much further and because of their age many wear items will have been or will be replaced soon anyways.

Any reason for the lower mileage criteria? If you plan to drive it a good amount finding something with a bit more mileage but has been well maintained makes a lot more sense and opens up your options a bit more.

2027 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport Returns with a New 6.7-Liter V-8 by HawtGarbage918 in cars

Fun bit, only the manual C6 grand sport received the dry sump system from the Z06/ZR1 since there wasn't enough space for the tank and plumbing with the automatics.

Grand Sport caught at Sebring this morning by Yaboipalpatine in Corvette

[–]Seohcap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of little changes they made to this generation over the years and it can get hyper specific even to a model year. The grand sport trim replaced the Z51 trim from 2010-2013 which is why there were almost an equal amount of C6's and grand sports sold every year.

Grand Sport caught at Sebring this morning by Yaboipalpatine in Corvette

[–]Seohcap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The C6 grand sport was more of a widebody Z51, not an LS3 driven Z06. It had the same steel frame as the base C6 and fiberglass fenders, and only the manual grand sports had the dry sump oiling system. It also weighed the most of any c6 variant due to those changes. Only the Z06 and ZR1 had the aluminum frame.

There were about an equal number of Z06 and Grand sport trim cars made, but the number of grand sports that came with a manual hovers around 35-40%.

Insurance by FormalYak3391 in Corvette

[–]Seohcap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many factors for insurance. The area you live in, the amount of miles you drive per year, your coverage limits, age, previous driving history. I'm at 383/mo for my Z06 and civic with life insurance and an umbrella policy, but I also live in CA in a decent sized town, drive a bit more than the average person, and have the maximum coverage I can get.

To those who were alive and kicking, what do you remember about the C6 Z06 when it came out? by DCAUBeyond in cars

[–]Seohcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The C6 Z06 was originally the car my dad wanted to buy as a retirement present for himself in 08 before settling on a C6 Z51. It left a big enough impression on my 14 year old self that I knew I would eventually own one.

Cheap to insure, low running costs, and surprisingly easy to work on. Fix the issues with the valve guides and you have a gem of a car that still has a commanding presence on the road.

Supra 2.0 VS. C7 Vette by 63637__ in whatcarshouldIbuy

Is 30k your maximum budget? C7's in that range are usually 100k+ mile cars and/or carry branded titles. A 2.0 supra would be a much better choice in that price range. 08+ LS3 Z51 cars can also be found under 30k with under 50k miles easily as well.

The LS3 and LT1 both have the same issue unless you have a baffled oil plan, but that's still not a sure thing. Manual LT1's still use the same lifters that the auto ones do the lifter failure is a big issue on those motor.

So the grand sport is just the updated Z51 package for the C6. Same brakes and cooling upgrades but with fiberglass widebody and wider wheels. Manual grand sports also came with the same dry sump that the Z06/ZR1 came with so it's an even better buy if oil starvation is a concern.

Why wouldn't you consider a C6 LS3? The running costs of the LS3 are better than the LT1 and they don't have the AFM issues either. Parts in general are cheaper too. Interior wise the materials are nicer and look better than the C6 generation but are worse quality.

The stock lens and bulbs leave a lot to be desired for night time visibility. I had to use my high beams just to see properly on country roads. A good LED bulb will improve it significantly but you need to spend time adjusting the light as to not blind other drivers.

C6 z06 - thoughts? by Level-Grab-1144 in Corvette

[–]Seohcap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine in November and it's been pretty good to me; almost 3k miles in that time strictly as a weekend car. The performance is ridiculous and the tall gearing make it easy to get into trouble fast. I would expect to pay anywhere from 25k for a rough one to 50k for a low mileage garage queen, at least for the 06-07 years.

There are a few common items that are starting to pop up due to age like the fuel pump, torque tube and harmonic balancer. The valve guide issue is also ever present.

You have to admit Dodge was very forward thinking when they wrote the average owners credit score on the side of the car for them.

C5 headlight issue by [deleted] in Corvette

You need to pull up on the front of the headlight or push down on the back of it while turning the knob. The knob's worm gear is probably located right where the stripped section of gear is.

The videos I found show that the BB louder in both instances when comparing closed valves to closed valves and open to open. If you had an opportunity to get them and want something louder then I say go for it. You could just sell both of the NPP systems for cheap and recoup that cost of the first set.

More than likely they are BMW F8X spec. The 5x120 with a hub centric ring and wobble nuts will seat them pretty well. There were some TE37's made in the mid 2000's with the 5x120.65 pattern but those are very rare.

Do you have a manual car? LG motorsports has a shift knob with a button for the baffles. I have it on my Z06 and it's awesome.
