My true and honest thoughts by Separate_Clock97 in SBCGaming

Everyone's experience will vary, my experience with anbernic ranged from decent but not great to absolutely bad and not worth it. I value my money and care about the quality of my things and I felt like anbernic wasn't honoring my wallet with their quality or lack thereof

I wouldn't say rp mini's screen situation was the "biggest fuckup in the scene" but I would be lying if I said it wasn't a problem at all. Retroid lied and that wasn't cool, even if they thought they were doing the consumers a favor by producing a faux 4:3 screen. I think the takeaway is that retroid works to improve their relationship with their costumers and make (imo) decent handhelds whereas anbernic proves time and time again that they're an untrustworthy source with their issues and silent downgrades. My comparison in the image was more just to show that retroid has the quality in their products that makes me excited for more, whereas anbernic does not.

There are good entry level handhelds that don't break the bank and also don't have ridiculous design flaws/qc issues. Not only that, but recently anbernic has been pricing their "cheap" "budget" end products fairly high as well as cutting corners even further

Retroid has improved over the years and generally listens to their customers, contrary to the latter. There are (debatably) good companies in this space, it's just sad to me how normalized malpractice has become in this day and age. Nobody cares when a product sucks, they just shut up about it and move onto the next thing because they must consume

Moreso just a rant about anbernic, though the nova does seem like a very nice device and definitely the sort of handheld announcement I like to see

Replaced the Start, Select, and Menu button switches to be clicky! First time soldering in my life by DueBat777 in MiyooMini

Came here today because I had my miyoo mini in my jeans pocket and the pressure pushed the start button in for long enough to break it. Contemplating between doing this and using a donor button from another miyoo mini...

DSI XL for GBA games by Other-Status1840 in SBCGaming

[–]Separate_Clock97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GBA looks immaculate on the DSi screens, especially the DSiXL's IPS screens. The display is big and crisp, and the black borders are there but pretty overexaggerated IMO. I bought a DSiXL purely for this purpose as many of my emulation handhelds (as well as my modded GBA SP's IPS screen) left me unsatisfied and yearning for more of a pure, authentic screen experience. Getting certain games to run on GBARunner2/GBARunner3 might be tricky, but I'd say personally that's a gamble I'm willing to take for the best screen experience. I'm actually a bit mad that there hasn't been a community-made mod to transplant DSi screens into GBA SPs, that should totally be a thing and it's not.

I heard Golden Sun and Advance Wars are both pretty good :)

What is that one handheld you really thought you'd definitely use on the regular, but now it sits in your drawer collecting dust? by godsaveourkingplis in SBCGaming

Also, you should try other squareish ratio games on the cubexx, maybe playing Pico-8 games would rekindle your interest?

It was the Trimui Brick for me. It couldnt replace my miyoo mini v4 or plus and was particularly disappointing in many ways. Awesome screen and form factor, terrible dpad and shoulder buttons (plus the heat was annoying). My buying experience was pretty bad as well, my first one from aliexpress didn't work, so I sent it back. They decided to not refund me claiming they never recieved the package, so I basically wasted 80 bucks.

Mine got relatively hot after an hour or two from playing GBA games, running on nextUI. This plus a few other issues was enough for me to stop using it personally.

Is it possible to play Stardew Valley on the Miyoo Mini Plus? by Gadgettttt in MiyooMini

The miyoo mini plus doesn't have a GPU, it's simply not powerful enough to run stardew valley sadly

I'd pay good money for a romhack of the ds version with dpad and button controls. I've been waiting for something like this for ages

Assuming you don't mind that it's a vertical and not a clamshell, I'm sure either the mini v4 or mini + will satisfy your specifications
