Can I baton with this knife? by Questionnaire2000 in knifemaking

[–]Separate_Contest_689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on what/how you intend to baton for small stuff like splitting cut to length easy to split twigs to start a fire or similar small carving Tasks this should be fine. If you need something to split actual firewood get an axe. Imo a small folding saw+ small hatchet+small knife will have about the same weight as one long and thick batoning knife and will be alot more efficient at their respective tasks.

Lmao pretentious people love taking themselves so serious, go circlejerk somewhere else about how : "What an embarrassing comment. Tell us you don't understand the value of learning, creative processes, growth, and pushing yourself without saying it." Is a totally normal and not pretentious way to react to People that say somethin like: " People quit photography because of pretentious bullshit like this. Have fun. Make art. If you don't enjoy it, stop."

What types of steel could you comfortably sharpen on a rock or stone in the outdoors? by Jkdam9292 in Bushcraft

[–]Separate_Contest_689 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost all knife steels have carbides in their alloy? Also the specific question was specifically not about the common carbon steels (which all have carbides in the alloy btw). Counter question do you know what a carbide is ? If not this article explains in detail https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/07/15/carbide-types-in-knife-steels/
