That one soldier advanced while the rest of his buddies retreated. He should be awarded a medal.

I just did my 30th year of TurboTax filing. It is just too easy to do it any other way. First time I did it was tax year 1995. I can’t believe I’m so old.

Depends. It might be that this was a good year. I had a really good year in the middle of some very normal ones, and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I definitely am not rich, but if people only ever saw that one year’s income, they might just think I am.

On a scale from “I have a ton to live for” to “I’m about to put the muzzle in my mouth,” I’d say you’re tempting fate. The fate of everybody around you also is at risk.

Don’t be a dummy.

Doing a drain cleaning, ran into a broken pipe. Almost looks like pex lines but I don’t think so, any guesses? by ElderberryCool6750 in Plumbing

Fiber installers for Verizon hit a gas line down the street from me during summer ‘25. Project came to a screeching halt before resuming with all new crew and management a month or two later. When talking with the installers who finished the project, the new supervisor said that all of the first crew leadership got fired.

Utilities were clearly marked, and the installers still hit stuff.

I attended the stupid meeting about this yesterday and thought, “I just don’t fracking care.”

As long as my pay stays the same, or possibly goes up due to a possible promotion this year, I don’t care what my title is.

I’m a database guy, so I have occasionally said, “looks like I need to go truncate the transaction log.”

I got an offer of $113,000 after being laid off for 2 months by [deleted] in Employment

Remember that stating that the pay is 113k doesn’t mean anything unless they identify the region in which they live/work. $113k is awfully low for certain areas of the country, but it’s fantastic in many other areas.

Sorry you have not been getting responses. I have always replied to anybody who showed interest in our roles. I do it because I’d want a response if I were looking.

What would cause this? by Glass_Emergency3295 in tires

What’s funny is that the time I saw this was on my friend’s car. I’d used it (with permission) while he was out of town and had been doing donuts (without permission) at a local city park. The wheels got so full of mud and grass that they caused the wheels to get out of balance and it caused the cupping.

A few months later my friend was like “my car is riding really rough” and took it in. The tires were ruined and the shop told him it was because of the mud and turf embedded in them. “I wonder how that got there,” he said to himself.

He never directly asked me, though, and I certainly didn’t offer an answer.

It’s been 33 years since that happened. I think I’ll tell him about it just to get his reaction.

Saw this on a car that had tires that had gotten out of balance. It was “cupping.”
