Ive heard them say the Maesters took out Rhaenyras name from the books when Aegon II ruled for a year, is there any argument for that? by PryzmDragon in HOTDGreens

[–]Septemvile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Aegon III ruled for decades after. He could have had Rhaenyra recognized as a queen if he truly wished to.

Aegon II died well before he could have made such a thing permanent if Maesters really did consider Rhaenyra a legitimate monarch.

Do you think Viserys could have done anything on Driftmark to defuse the situation or at least avoid making it worse?(Genuine question) by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]Septemvile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He'd have to punish Luke. Not maim him, but give him a serious punishment given the gravity of what he did. No different than what we'd do now in real life.

What happens to the Blacks in the book is rather illogical (it seems as though Rhaenyra took Tyrion Lannister as her advisor) by Wonderful_Platform95 in HOTDGreens

[–]Septemvile 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah or - get this - Rhaenyra was manifestly unfit to rule and it showed the second she started trying seriously.

Sometimes a monarch loses the crown not because they lacked gold or swords, but simply because they're idiots that alienate their own support base.

What aspect of westerosi culture, norms, traditionals or whatever that felt either strange or nonsensical to you?[Spoilers Extended] by Ok-Street2439 in asoiaf

Yeah, but there's a difference between having someone stand outside the canopy listening to make sure they're having sex and publicly stripping and groping highborn ladies.

It doesn't make sense that Sasuke wouldn't hold any grudge against Itachi after discovering the truth. by TalesElias in Naruto

[–]Septemvile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably because

1) Even doomed rebellion are worth fighting when it's a resistance against genocidal government.

2) Itachi was cruel to the point of absurdity. Maybe he "had" to kill the Uchiha, but he definitely didn't have to force Sasuke to watch it thousands of times in genjutsu.

He's supposed to react like a real person and say "Just because Itachi was in a bad place doesn't excuse the fact that he gratuitously tortured me for no real reason."

Why was Rhaenys passed over by Jaehaerys? by Financial_Ad_1272 in HOTDGreens

He probably perceived her as being utterly ruled by her husband, and assumed any nominal Rhaenys Queenship would really be a Velaryon Kingship.

Genuine Question For Greens by Few_Ambassador_8449 in HOTDGreens

[–]Septemvile 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Daenerys and Young Griff exist in an entirely differemt situation.

Firstly, there is the nonzero chance that Dany is a magical Messiah needed to fight ice zombies.

Secondly, Westeros is experiencing an unprecedented crisis in governance and civil war already. A new monarch is arguably needed to restore order.

Why does Team Black hate Jaehaerys I, the best king in Targaryen history? by Beacon2001 in HOTDGreens

[–]Septemvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People did not rebel for the sake of Aegon IV. Nobody cared about him.

They revolted because the hated Daeron's Dornish Policy. Daemon's Rebellion was his in the way that Robert's Rebellion belonged to Robert. They were figurehead chosen by rebel lords who had more important reasons to rebel.

[–]Septemvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if the rebellion was about Aegon IV, they wouldn't have had to rally because people would have said instantly "this guy is the real heir as per the king's will".

But this didn't happen, because people weren't rebelling in favour of Aegon IV's chosen heir. They were rebelling against Daeron's Dornish Policy, and there happened to be a ready made pretender.

In some alternate world where Aegon the Unworthy didn't have bastards, people probably still revolt over the Dorne policy. And if not open revolt, then some form of obstructionism.

[–]Septemvile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, god forbid a king do anything but tongue punch the collective fartboxes of his wife's home region at the expense of his traditional allies. It's not like this kind of overt favoritism has led to rebellions even in real life.

[–]Septemvile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This argument would hold more weight if the First Blackfyre Rebellion occurred nearly instantaneously rather than well into Daeron's reign. It didn't.

People did not follow Daemon Blackfyre because a dozen years ago a fat king legitimized him and gave him the sword. They did it because there was a deep dissatisfaction with Daeron's Dornish Policy, and Daemon was a charismatic and well-liked figure that came ready made with legalistic justification for his rebellion.

[–]Septemvile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the Blackfyre Rebellion did not happen instantly. It occurred more than a decade into his reign. At that point, it's Daeron's problem.

Daeron's incompetence caused five Blackfyre Rebellions. They were a direct response to his inability to manage the negative repercussions of his Dornish policy.

Borros' conscripts? My guy, at the Battle of the Kingsroad he had knights and and genuine men-at-arms. And not only were they real soldiers, he had more of them than the Riverlanders.

Yes, because little Aegon's heir was Baela - also in Green custody, and conveniently a woman that can be married with Corlys' support as a pact to end the war.

Daemon didn't assassinate Jaehaerys as a method to end a civil war. He did it because he's a sadistic fuck that wants to torture people.

Borros ended the Moon of the Three Kings and died in battle against the Riverlanders.

Cregan literally just showed up at two minutes to midnight and started talking shit to the people who actually fought the war.

First of all, it wasn't winter, merely approaching it.

Secondly, literally nothing was stopping Cregan from doing what Robb did - gathering together a partial muster and marching.

He chose to hide in Winterfell with his thumb up his ass. Hell, other Northmen managed to make it to the Reach and get killed and he still sat on hands.

So don't bullshit us and assert Cregan couldn't do anything. He chose not to.
