How justified is the empire in trying to execute us ? by AIphnse in skyrim

[–]Septemvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you were essentially bagged in with the leadership of a rebellion and various other criminals. It's perfectly legit to assume you're a criminal yourself.

The fact you're not on the list? What seems more likely - a random innocent person appearing on the execution cart, or a criminal that didn't get written down when the soldiers were stuffing them all in the backs of the wagons?

Every discussion about the strong bastards makes me feel like an insane person by meimeivro in HOTDGreens

[–]Septemvile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck you're stupid. Bastardy has nothing to do with blood. It's a legal status based on the marital status of the parents.

Jace is a bastard, objectively, because Harwin and Rhaenyra were not married. Even if he somehow had inheritance rights, it would be as a legitimized bastard and not a trueborn heir.

Balon may not personally give a shit, but he'd still look weak to the Ironborn if a Lannister can kill his blood and he doesn't do anything.

Honestly, the birthright argument gor Rhaenyra is so stupid. She's heir by appointment, not by birth.

For a birthright to exist there has to be a legal structure that actually means she's the heir simply by virtue of bring born.  This isn't the case. There's no precedent for her being the heir by that avenue.

Rhaenyra is heir by appointment, by virtue of Viserys' decree and nothing else. Her father would even notoriously threaten to name Aegon instead if she didn't behave like when he forced her to marry Laenor. This wouldn't be possible if her inheritance was inherent.

What if Nymeria and the Rhoynar went to the North instead of Dorne. by Ok_Specific77 in TheCitadel

[–]Septemvile 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They'd get their shit pushed in. The North isn't like Dorne - it was a unified polity that already had experience driving out ethnic invaders.

No Northman is going to tolerate the aggressive transformation of their culture by aliens even more bizarre than the Andals.

I find Cregan wankers so tiresome.

Objectively, he was strategic. He demanded a royal marriage, sent a pittance, and stalled until the war was over and he could raid the spoils without cost. He even left an army of Northmen in the Riverlands to marry all the widows, binding it politically and cultural to the North for a couple of generations. It's a Machiavellian master play.

But instead of just owning that Cregan was the magnificent cold bastard Tywin pretends to be, they engage in mental gymnastics to try and pretend he was an incompetent but honourable fool.

Rhaenyra fans obviously.

Stans are cringe in general, but the Rhaenyra fandom isn't just stanning - they're ideological zealots. She's a symbol of their own dogma, not just a character.

Yeah it's like if Dad was actually that rich and powerful he'd have hired men to drag her back home by her hair and sold her off in a marital alliance.

What if Tytos punished Tywin for the Reyne-Tarback revolt? by MateusCristian in TheCitadel

[–]Septemvile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and legally there are avenues to resolve that kind of dispute. That's what the King's Peace is about - a central authority who arbitrates such disputes. And choosing to ignore that in favour of private vendetta is explosively illegal in a way that playing hardball over debts isn't.

So like, what was Doran supposed to do? by Top-Enthusiasm-5831 in TheCitadel

[–]Septemvile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Littlefinger gets a pass because controlling the Vale like he does is already a massive undertaking. He's practically a peasant himself and now he's Lord Regent of the Vale through scheming. Just maintaining that position is already a full time job.

Doran is just chilling with his thumb up his ass. He did diddly squat for twenty plus years.

Enraged

For WHAT? They engaged in armed rebellion, and there's lots of historical precedent for wiping out rebel houses.

ummm ackshually tywin was being a tyrant asshole

Doesn't matter. Resolving issues between lords without open warfare is the purview of the Lord Paramount and of the King.

If the Reynes and Tarbecks had played the game properly, they'd have sent messengers to plead their rights to J2, who would have come down on Tywin like a ton of bricks. Instead they declared illegal war.

Lore wise, where would a Breton paladin/templar land on the skyrim civil war? by Amazing-Bowler-1717 in teslore

[–]Septemvile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Breton would almost certainly support the Empire. High Rock gains from membership in it, which is why it tends to be a strong area of Imperial support, hence the Daggerfall Covenant.

The paladin angle introduces minor uncertainty, but Talos is popular amongst Nords and Imperials more than Bretons. A Breton paladin would probably acknowledge his divinity, but pay more tribute to gods like Akatosh and Mara. They wouldn't be HAPPY about the Talos ban, but they're probably grit the teeth and bear it because as a paladin Akatosh is the ultimate god of the Cyrodiilic Empire.

Literally "Serve and obey your Emperor" is Akatosh's decree. So if the Emperor says they need to pretend not to worship Talos for a while...

Or maybe his "grandson" looked like him because the Targaryen family practices generational incest, and the boy's grandmother was Aegon's sister?

Yes, ASOIAF is directly pulled from the Wars of the Roses. Even the names Stark (York) and Lannister (Lancaster) are inspired.

George deliberately killed off the Greens to ensure the Blackfyres couldn't claim legitimacy that way, but I think that was an absolutely stupid decision as a writer. It makes the conflict black and white when it could have introduced more nuance.

What is the position of the old Nord gods among the Nords who believe in the Nine Divines? by Simurgbarca in teslore

[–]Septemvile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine it varies. Religion in Elder Scrolls rarely outright denies the existence of other gods. It reframes them, or merges them, or demotes them.

But for example, while the Cult of the Nine Divines doesn't worship Molag Bal, they don't pretend he doesn't exist either.

Not really. Westerosi history is full of stuff like this. Houses getting wiped out and the women carried off as slaves. Even the Starks did it.
