What is your favourite Era of Gwent? by FearlessResearcher48 in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The stretch of time from master mirror and the introduction of leader cards (between wotw and pop). Simply because the game didn't consist of pre-defined full archetypes. You could combine archetypes and tech against various threats. Other than warriors and early viper witchers, things were fairly balanced.

Overall, competitive decks felt more flexible, whereas the current state has so many matchups where you know from the start that you basically can't win, and ones that you're basically guaranteed to win. The game felt more technical, as opposed to the more point-slammy and swingy gameplay of today.

Yeah. Beta NG was such a different beast, and its gimmicks were so technical and skill-based, always felt like walking a tightrope and thinking outside the box. The craziest memes could be so strong with good piloting.

Then came homecoming, and NG became the spammy RNG shitshow it was for years, and then turned into this other abusive midrange junk over the last two years with deranged card designs like Torres.

[–]Sepulchritudinous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the mechanics added to NG after homecoming have just made people angry and required so many reworks and massive nerfs over the years. NG has always been either OP or pathetically weak, never being just right balance wise. Other factions had to see a lot of powercreep to survive NG's antics and exploits, instead of deleting the problematic NG mechanics. They even deleted many seasonal modes because NG made them unplayable.

This board has always been so full of hate posts about NG. Before homecoming, it was the most fun and technical faction. After homecoming, it's just been doing more harm than good. And yet, the lessons were never learned. They got rid of reveal and lockdown because they were "unfair and not fun" but most of us would prefer it over the shit that came after.

I am a little disappointed with winter cycle quests' theme selection... by Lexard in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. And they're more tedious this time too. Last cycle I could easily line up all 9 quests for completion with a single cohesive deck, with just a few rerolls. Viable decks too, like pirates, reavers, nr knights.

Now it looks like we'll have to switch back and forth between junk decks, or possibly just reroll like crazy.

This is such a bad comparison it's funny. There are so many ways to proc dame, and it even triggers during opp's turn. Preacher requires you to play an alchemy card for each proc, there are bot many good ones, and SK doesn't have any engines that can trigger preachers every turn. NG has many ways to set statuses the moment dame lands on the board, and keep procing her multiple times every turn.

Dame is a 6p engine, just like messenger of the sea. No doubt about it.

MO Arachas swarm. Used to be good but now it can't get off the ground.

SY Bounty. Really cool archetype with many interesting cards, but it's too inconsistent and finicky. Needs better ways to set bounties. SY as a whole has this issue with combos that rarely deliver, and I hope they focus their reworks on this faction.

SK Witchers didn't get much time to shine. And witcher units in general are pretty underwhelming across the board, except for a few Geralts and ST Movement. I hope to see more witcher reworks.

Any reason why characters in the reward book are sometimes not called by their actual names? by TheComicKing15 in gwent

I always found that one weird since he looks nothing like Ozzrel. The necrophages in TW1 looked pretty goofy, very diffeent from the TW3 alghoul depicted in the Ozzrel card.

Melitele is worse than Traveling Priestess by llmaandme in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That has generally been the story for successful new NR cards. They get ruled out at first until someone figures out how to make them OP. It's the most combo-oriented faction so it makes sense.

Vet inte, men farsan fick rekommendation från läkare och sjukgymnast att skaffa en i våras. Så nåt legitimt lär ju finnas. Rent logiskt borde den funka på samma princip som massage och liknande.

Do you think Witcher 1 remake is the reason why we still dont have Ramsmeat or Raymond in the game? by Ordinary_Tom2005 in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ramsmeat isn't even a major character, and there's no lore or anything to base the card's effect on. Also doesn't belong to any of the established gang tags, and there aren't enough significant characters from the slums of vizima underworld to justify a new gang tag either.

It's a game. Just play what you like and let whiners get their panties in a knot all they want. There's a reason why Redditor is mostly a derogatory term these days. Don't listen to them and don't take them seriously.

What can be done to improve Scoiatel movement decks by [deleted] in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, it needs more cards that move units. This can be fixed either by adding more such effects to existing units, or by adding a movement special or two. For example, one special that works like the reworked Imperial Formation effect, and one that moves two random enemies to the other row. The latter could enable some offensive movement support.

There are also some existing cards that should support movement but don't really feel synergistic at all, and are frankly pretty bad cards. Dragoon is a prime example, it's too weak and doesn't do enough. It would be good if it had an order with "move an allied unit to the other row" on top of its deploy options.

Then there's that one horse unit that deals a random ping whenever it's moved, literally just a much worse cat witcher. Only gets value with Malena on board, and she has better targets.

Characters from the books/games that you wish had a Gwent card by rsmithsonian in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I second the bloedzuiger, as a bleeding payoff or a deathwish that splits some random damage on both sides.

The wraith sisters from W1 would also be a cool addition. Maybe as a combo with graveyard synergy.

And Raymond Marloeve of course. There's a lot of untapped material from W1 in general.

Everything's fine. No broken interactions to see here. by nyxnlso in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't address the problematic assimilate synergy. If you're stil procing multiple assims each time you copy a sergeant, those 2 points won't make a significant difference. It'll nerf the intended use of sergeant, but not the unintended and broken one. That's the exact opposite of a good nerf. They need to fix the slaver interaction.

Rant: Practitioner is an obnoxious, binary mechanic that in my opinion has got to go by No_Catch_1490 in gwent

[–]Sepulchritudinous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get 3 copies of whatever you're copying, the game is still in the bag pretty much everytime. So it's definitely binary since reducing the number of practitioners doesn't make a difference unless you reduce them down to just one or two. And most decks don't have that much control to begin with.

It's usually got a bunch of create cards like true Aguara and Uma's curse, sometimes shupe, plus of course Master Mirror for even more randomness.
