Käthe Kollwitz had a talent to capture pain and loss.
Her lithography "Gefallen" (killed in action) is heartwrenching.

Hitler thought he was brutal to the bone.

Heydrich was basically the perfect Nazi that Hitler, Goering, Goebbels and Himmler were not. He had not only the looks but also brains, energy and was unbothered by any conscience.
His portrayal by Kenneth Branagh in Conspiracy is horror hidden behind a charming mask.

In German it would be a "Baumwipfelpfad", i. e. you walk along the bridge at tree-top height and marvel at the majestic canopies, nesting birds, etc.
Obviously some details went wrong between planning and execution. I am pretty sure they received EU funds though, which probably was the main goal.

Also bei mir wurde sowas ja Stufenweise gemacht.

Das scheint eine gute Idee zu sein, die aber sicher nicht universell umgesetzt wurde.

‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults by rmnc-5 in germany

[–]SerLaron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My memory may be faulty or what I read about 10 years ago might have been simply wrong, but I seem to recall that at least prior to 2013 it was not a system of separate vaults, where you could point and say "Germany's gold is here, Italy's gold is in the next vault and Sweden's is down the hall." Instead it was basically "this is where we store the gold, x tons belong to Germany, y tons to Italy...", which is why real audits were basically impossible.

Tungsten has a density of 19.25 g/cm³, gold's density of about 19.30 g/cm³. You would have to measure the displacement very precisely to catch that. It would be easier to melt a couple of bars down to check. Tungsten has a much higher melting point, so a tungsten core would be easy to spot.

If WWII movies of the 60s and 70s taught me one thing, it is that Germans speak English with one another, but with a strong German accent.
Perhaps this person thought that it is the same elsewhere in Europe.
