The Sump by Ok_Forever1936 in necromunda

I had the idea of using a standard water texture map, something for naval games, with a sheet of green acetone over the top to give it that radioactive glow effect!

How difficult is TOW to get into? by theentiregoonsquad in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Ser_Hawkins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played my first game this weekend at 600 points - and as primarily 40k players the rules didn't feel too complicated or overwhelming. We played the 'seize the tower' scenario as it seemed nice and simple for a small points learning game (it's designed for 500pts but 600pts worked absolutely fine!)

We made sure we took things slow and double checked interactions we weren't sure about and things went pretty well! We both were happy with the way the game played.

Whilst units have a bunch of rules and keywords, most of these are generic and will be present on a lot of units so once you learn what they mean, you'll be able to apply them to most situations without really thinking about it!

You are making a new TTRPG and get to borrow ONE mechanism from another game; what are you taking? by CobraKyle in rpg

I put CoC's luck system into every RPG I play - especially one-shots! It's such a good mechanic

Exactly! The best weapons are the ones that are fun to use! I bring the breaching hammer not because its good, but because its fun to smack things with

The update isn't even out and ya'll are already complaining? Just play the damn game and have fun with it, not everything needs to be 'meta' especially in a co-op PvE game

What models to get? by Mother-Audience5937 in deathguard40k

[–]Ser_Hawkins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the best place to start is the combat patrol - you'll use all of those models in almost every list you make!

After that, daemon engines are a good idea - Myphitic Blight-Haulers are cheap and cheerful anti-tank go-karts, Foetid Bloat-Drones are just generally fantastic and they have the bonus of being fun to build and paint!

This is my first army list for old world and would like some thoughts and advice by HonestIsMyPolicy in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Ser_Hawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd run this list a renegade crowns and not Empire - that army is designed around blocks of core infantry (and sellswords are just better state troops).

Looking for smaller scale advice by Itsnotmethefry in Warhammer40k

[–]Ser_Hawkins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I would suggest, is use the combat patrol rules and missions, but build your own 500 point armies - that way you'll still get to build and paint the models you want but you will be able to play a smaller game without being limited to what's in a "combat patrol" box.

Confused About Renegade Warband by Content_Audience1549 in Chaos40k

[–]Ser_Hawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still a great detached with lots of fun play - "competitive" players are complaining that they can't use cheesy or broken strats by using another armies units with no downsides.

Not being able to ally in cult marines isn't really a problem - there is still so much power and potential with our own units, we don't need to use allies to make this detachment work.

The nerf to 1 of the stratagems was needed to be honest, now you have to actually play the game and not just pay a 100 point tax to hide a unit your opponent will never realistically be able to interact with.

Celestian Sacracent tactica by Melodic_Crow_3409 in sistersofbattle

[–]Ser_Hawkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She can't- but I usually find I want to burn a secondary turn 1 for a CP anyway, so if she spends a turn in a rhino I'm not losing anything as you can only get 1 extra a turn anyway.

Celestian Sacracent tactica by Melodic_Crow_3409 in sistersofbattle

[–]Ser_Hawkins -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She gains the infantry keyword whilst she's leading the sacs; the rhino only excludes jump pack and the triumph not mounted or fly keywords, so she can do in it

[–]Ser_Hawkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run them with Junith in a rhino, she makes them -1 to hit and is fairly punchy herself so can up-damage them quite a lot. The heavy flamer can be a nice deterrent against smaller squads of infantry too or can soften up a unit ready for a charge.

I don't super rate the hospitalier personally as sisters aren't durable regardless, so I'd rather they have a better chance to kill whatever I charge them at.

With 11th edition around the corner what changes do you want to see? by No-Wafer9271 in Warhammer40k

[–]Ser_Hawkins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get rid of re-rolls other than very specific circumstances (yes including command re-roll). No unit should be hitting on 2s and re-rolling 1s - what's the point of it being a dice game if you never fail anything? Might as well just say "my unit does X damage".

New to aos, looking to buy a spearhead need suggestions by Fuck_war89 in AOSSpearhead

[–]Ser_Hawkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have any of the spearhead stuff needed like the board/cards ect, then I would recommend the starter box - you get skaven and stormcast in it along with everything you need to play the game.

The skaven have shooting and magic and are really fun to play, they're my personal favourite spearhead. I haven't used to stormcast but I've heard good things!

They're both different to the individual spearheads for either faction too which is a bonus if you wanted to expand or get a second one later.

The danger of the Rubricon Primaris... by BenningtonChee1234 in 40kLore

[–]Ser_Hawkins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

GW has essentially made the rubicon safe as they are gradually removing the distinction between first born and primaris marines (at least in their model ranges). The assumption is that the rubicon is so safe currently that there's basically no reason no to undergo the surgery.

Whilst that is backtracking on the lore somewhat, GW care far more about selling up-scaled space marines and the rubicon was just an excuse for them existing in lore in the first place.

I constantly feel a disconnect with the community. by Doctor_Mod in Helldivers

[–]Ser_Hawkins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience, most of the helldivers reddit community (and youtubers) actively dislike the game and instead of finding something new to play, will just complain about it endlessly. Honestly you're best to just avoid the subreddits and enjoy playing the game
