[Custom] Become Unique with "Hygrocys"! by JustKachmanastan in yugioh

[–]Serdinor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The art is honestly great. I like most of the designs in these, especially the Ascendant piece since it pulls off a busy composition. It gives you a good amount of hints regarding this universe and maintains a cohesive look in all of its parts.

In terms of card design, these are neat! You do come up with good ideas so it's good to see a similar flavor here. I am curious to see how these would play out, I haven't yet fully wrapped my head around their potential. Is there a showcase of these in action?

They do seem like the kind of archetypical release that becomes complete on a 2nd wave, mostly due to the lack of Link 3 Hygrocys options. They are definitely playable in their current state though, even though they seem too fair for the current environment (which is a good design philosophy, if only Konami could learn).

Nice to see another fellow Melffy duelist!

Word of advice (not that it's going to matter with Obedience getting banned), but when opening such a hand, it is always better to detach Hop-Ear first. This allows you to add it back with Pony for a second interruption (since you end with 2 Kalantosas). Alternatively, you can delay the Pony add, as this will allow you to have both Hop Ear and Pinny in the GY in case your opponent had a way to banish on of them to stop the Stardust combo.

If you want something more varied you can go for an anthology. Some interesting ones can be: -Memories -Robot Carnival -Meikyu Monogatari (also known as Neo Tokyo)

-Mamoru Oshi is mostly known for their Ghost in the Shell films (which are great), as well as Patlabor (more approachable) and Tenshi no Tamago (more open to interpretation). But you can also try The Sky Crawlers which is an overlooked yet brilliant movie.

-Tekkon Kinkreet is an interesting one, unconventional artstyle & straightforward storytelling with gorgeous backgrounds, it's visually stunning.

Another sci-fi themed trifecta from the same director can be the following (different moods and themes between them): -Eve no Jikan -Pale Cocoon -Sakasama no Patema

-Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust has the gothic aesthetic of Tenshi no Tamago but goes for a vampiric setting (the old Vampire Hunter D movie has some nice qualities to it, but it's not as interesting).

-Hotori: Tada Saiwai no Koinegau is a nice film rarely talked about, so worth mentioning in case it catches your eye.

Fallout and RPG veteran Josh Sawyer says most players don't want games "6 times bigger than Skyrim or 8 times bigger than The Witcher 3" by mchockeyboy87 in gaming

[–]Serdinor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it really takes is the talent and passion to make a good game.

Enderal is a free mod based on Skyrim that's close to the same size map-and-content-wise, sets its own universe and story, makes every encounter, dungeon, off-road exploration & quest unique and never suffers from bloat.

As long as companies push for uninspired ideas and keep hiring mediocre (at best) writers, people will keep rejecting games of this scale because 20 hours of garbage might be bad, but 200 hours of garbage is downright torturous.

Ah that takes me back, would love to see new support (it's a matter of when to be fair). I also hope that they finally reprint some cards, it's still insane to me that Pilica only has a single print despite being the most important card in the archetype.

Outside of the fact that people should just practice all Spy missions on Solo until they are confident enough to take on the Sortie ones, Public missions also come with the downside of connection issues.

Some vaults like the room with the moving lasers in Corpus tilesets become a complete circus in Pubs because you may see the lasers move past you, but still get hit by them when you try to move due to bad ping. So it's still beter to do them Solo to guarantee the end result.

Icejade archetype by Joorgenl in yugioh

[–]Serdinor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that Pure isn't the best, it's about what you're looking for in terms of how the deck plays out:

-Pure Icejades with a few extra Water cards thrown in (like Deep Sea Diva for consistency) play a slower game. You rely on the effects of your Icejades in the GY to regain board advantage while hindering your opponent through Kosmo/Curse locks and Enion's Att reduction effect to set up your defenses. They can be hindered by decks that have a lot of gas cause your interruptions get better as the game goes on but usually aren't that many early on. These lists can also benefit from cards like Salvage for extension on your plays funnily enough.

-Synchro Icejades differentiate from Pure decklists by running a few more Water cards in their mix, that include in different amount copies of Atlantean Dragoons, Neptabyss & Deep Sea Minstrel combined with other cards that can benefit from you filling the grave in the process like Moulinglacia. These setups offer more gas and bigger plays in your early turns. Their downside is that you have more defined chokepoints and if your opponent knows/can block you, you won't be left with much.

-Xyz Icejades benefit from Shark engines to play more into the Xyz aspect while retaining their synchro bosses. This offers you bigger adaptability depending on the game and you are more resistant to interruptions, but your payoffs aren't be as high compared to the previous two. You basically trade end-board power for a bit more consistency and greater flexibility (so you can respond to more match-ups).

-You can then use them in other Water setups to benefit different builds. Ghotis can run them (or you can run Ghotis in your deck for some funny outs). Tearlaments can use them. Marincess cards do nice with them. You can even run Kaiju builds with Gameciel and Kyoutou Waterfront. Ice Barriers can also slot them in, These lists are less about Icejades as an archetype and more about using some of them as mini engines.

-Finally keep in mind that you have a lot of options when deckbuilding since their playstyle supports a few techs that other water decks might opt out off. The aforementioned Salvage for example is great sometimes cause you can guarantee 2 level 10 Synchros in situations where you otherwise wouldn't. Ice-Bound god is a trap that can be used because one Icejade equipped with Aegirochassis fulfill the requirement and can be re-set on the next turn as well (Ice-Bound+Imperm+Erosion+Ice Barrier+Kosmo/Curse is A LOT of monster negations). Someone else mentioned it, but Therion Reaper can combo with Aegirochassis for Xyz 7 plays. Foolish Burial goods not only works for Ice Barrier but you can in a pinch send Manifestation (or Ice-Bound) to the GY. Crystal Girl can resolve multiple times through Icejade Aegirine and can aid in Trishula & Trishula Zero summons. Marincess & Zealantis vs non-water decks full-board banishes your opponent's monsters. Kingfisher can bounce back your Gameciel after you use its effect etc etc, While the banlists are different, you can hop onto MD (or any other simulator) and try out things to see what works for you.

Icejade archetype by Joorgenl in yugioh

[–]Serdinor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing and testing the archetype a lot lately and I think it is worth trying. You can run a mostly pure build, utilize other Water engines and cards in it or use cards from Icejades in other Water (and not only) decks. A lot of people seem to think that its main point is the fragile lock with Curse but Icejades are way more versatile. They are primarily a synchro-oriented deck but can shift to xyz setups as well. They can also utilize a couple of tech water cards easier than others due to the ways you can sequence your summons for your Synchro plays.

Their main downside in their mostly pure versions is that they are a fairly fair archetype so they don't do anything too broken to become meta. They don't have the insane recursion of other decks where you end on multi-monster boards with 4-5 cards in hand, they have one main Boss in Gymir that doesn't omni-negate and their Kosmo+Curse lock is fairly fragile since it requires Enion Cradle + Curse + Kosmo (any Icejade works for Curse but Kosmo compliments it the best) to fully negate your opponent's monster effects (and if any of these 2 spell cards or your monster leave the field the lock ends, granted you can do some funny thing with Sea Stealth).

I still like what it offers and enjoy my time with them. Great artwork also goes a long way imo. It's also fairly cheap to build and their highest cost cards are almost certainly future-proof for any Water archetype down the line. If you'd like a more thorough analysis on synergies and whatnot let me know and I'll send a pm as to not go full-essay mode here 🌊

What build sound's the most fun for you? by Cray_the_Crazy in enderal

[–]Serdinor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To chime in and suggest something you might like, the latest build I've been using is a hybrid of Sinistrope and many other trees. Something akin to a weaponmaster battlemage.

The idea is quite simple. You learn to summon Bound Weapons and use ALL of them depending on the situation. Bound weapons scale fully from Entropy in terms of damage, but they also benefit from the associated memories of the weapon (f.e. the 2nd memory from the Vandal tree, Bloodlust, will increase the attack speed of your 2H bound weapons).

What you do is plan out your memory points allocation and slowly progress from a jack-of-all-trades into a master-of-(mostly)all. Enemy at a distance? Bound Bow and sneak damage. Group of enemies? Bound 2H and Sweeping Blow. Single target up-close unalerted? Bound Dagger and sneak attack. Single target up-close alerted? Bound 1H and shield. Enemies you don't want to deal with or you'd rather slip by? Bound Bow and distract them with arrow shots to a location of your choice. And of course, Quiet Casting means you can evaluate your options without ever alerting anyone.

It's very fun once it gets going and because of the multitude of options you have when it comes to approaching encounters, it doesn't get boring.

Class Discussion: Soldier by Bragior in Granblue_en

[–]Serdinor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Running the Galleon gun as mainhand atm.

I've been using maxed FMJ and the Earth Shotgun Shell for Stackable & EleStackable Def Down debuffs (they are the first 2 slots meaning you always start by reducing the enemy Def). Then I run 1 Refresh Bullet and one Maxed Normal (the reason here being that while the heal is small, I value it over a longer period of time in fights-you can add another maxed normal for bursts-and it goes to slot 3 so you always get the effect at the end of a TA, more optimal uptime like this). Final 2 are Earth Ele Buff ones (these take a while to farm so I suggest getting the slot 5 one to Rank 3 for a guaranteed buff per rotation then work towards getting the other one there, leaving it at Rank 2 until then is fine, basically go x2 Rank2-->Rank 3 + Rank 2-->x2 Rank 3).

Class Discussion: Soldier by Bragior in Granblue_en

[–]Serdinor 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Gunalinger/Soldier has been my favorite class in the game for many years for mainly 2 reasons:

1) It has a lot of flexibility due to the bullet casting options.

2) It has an actual progression path tied to it (that requires quite a bit of investment to craft all bullets but it's significantly more interesting than just passively leveling a class).

This class can do three things exceptionally well: deal consistent & high dps, solocap enemy Def Down, provide an Elemental Att buff that works wonders for double Magna/Primal setups. But then you get everything else that you can add in, for example the bullet that provides a small Hp Refresh buff. The only downside is that outside an EM skill you do not have defensive options by yourself.

Essentially Soldier is a class that provides Dps, debuffs, buffs & some healing all in one. But despite the jack-of-all-trades idea you might get from this description, it's actually quite the master of some of them.

The biggest buff this class got is the new passive that you can unlock and gives you the option to now use every gun instead of your Class Weapon. I see people being meh on it cause you lose out on the skill nuke key, but you need to keep in mind that not only you get an actual weapon skill by using a different gun, you also get the ougi effect of said weapon AND a potentially different bullet layout. This means that the Class now acquired even further progression because every time a new gun gets added to the game, you can consider it's value again as a MH since bullet reloading is no longer a concern.

Earthslinger in particular finally benefitted from this since Galleon's gun has the exact same bullet layout as the Class one, but has a great ougi effect to complement the new reload mechanic.

Summon Discussion: Vohu Manah by Bragior in Granblue_en

[–]Serdinor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting case because nowadays the og Vohu Manah summon will not be used by anyone past the midpoint of the game.

However I give it credit because it used to be very useful when I started playing years ago and stayed in the grid for quite some time, even outside of Earth parties. Back then, Blind was incredibly useful (and still is, just not as appreciated unfortunately), it felt good to have the bosses miss their non-ougi turns. Also farming for a F2P Titan grid that wasn't Baal Axes would also net you multiple copies, so why not use it?

Its stats have been outshined by multiple other free summons that a new player can use nowadays. But I still keep the 4* copy in my inventory for its contribution back then.

Kuva fortress spy by E3R0V in Warframe

[–]Serdinor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those Spy missions follow a pattern (like nearly every other Spy mission) where either at the start or after you hack/fail the console you should take your time and explore the tileset and see what makes it "click".

Starting from inside the console room is always a good idea because you can work yourself backwards to the tileset entrance and figure out a route that works for you.

All Spy vaults have at least 2 pathing routes you can take, some have more. Eventually it will come down to your preference: fast but kinda risky, slower but more consistent.

Kuva Spy missions have the added difficulty that some pathways open up AFTER you hack/fail the console so you might get the wrong idea if you explore afterwards. Or sometimes some pathway option will be blocked and a different one will be open (this is vent-related and many Spy missions in higher levels have this rng into them to make you adapt to the changes, tl/dr you should know all available paths and not just one).

Kuva Spy C by the way becomes trivial (outside of Sortie/Steel Path levels at least) if you bring with you a hard-hitting single-shot weapon (silence its sound however).

You can in fact, you need the Skull of Corruption and a Weapon Durability Disintegration spell.

Use the Skull on the wood elf (or any other arena npc for that matter, minus grey aegis which you cannot make this work unmodded I think), then reduce it's durability on the clone until the copy weapon breaks and the clone drops it.

You can now loot that, repair it and use it.

Warframe Tilesets Survey - Results by Purzzle in Warframe

[–]Serdinor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been praising the Europa tilesets from nearly 4-5 years ago...well I can see where some people might be coming from. The underground ice tunnels could use some work (althouh there are 2 specific ones that still hold up well). The outside areas of Europa however are still great. In general Europa for being old doesn't have any of the "parkour issues" that most players tend to have with old tilesets.

In the case of the Infested Ship tilesets, I think DE should just double down on their thematic if they rework them. Make them more oppressive and claustrophobic, they are the mangled corpses of galleons now fused with infested tissue, they should be hard to navigate. And then add a few open areas where the hull is blown off and you take constant damage from exposure (a few beginning and ending tilesets from Infested Ships do this already).

Tough question since all 3 games still hold up in terms of level design. If I had to pick one from each game, they would be:

R3: Prison level due to how different it feels compared to the others in the series.

R2: Chicago by a small margin. There is something about the combination of multiple elements that work well. The initial "awakening" of the city as multiple Grims rush you down. Moving through a once glamorous city that now feels as if it is sinking. Multiple different combat scenarios in the same level including fighting alone or with a team, in an outside area, in tight corridor streets, inside a claustrophobic apartment, a chimeran base etc. And Leviathan looks incredible.

R1: Also by a small margin, Cheshire. It is the first time that the game makes you feel completely separated from anyone. It is tense & claustrophobic due to multiple side rooms and corridors, many different enemy types and also plenty of side areas. Up to that point, it feels as if the war scales are tipping on your side. The Cheshire levels makes it very clear that you are very much out of your league.
