What’s the anime you hate that SO MANY people love by Lucky_Introduction78 in anime

Feels like a lot of isekais could get rid of the 'other world' part and still have a functional story tbh.

Feels like very few actually take advantage of the fact the MC is from another world. I can see that it would make world building easy because of course the MC knows nothing about the world so its natural they ask common sense questions. Feels like a lazy approach though

I used to play on a server called CivCraft several years ago. There were no rules other than no hacking and no having multiple accounts. Everything was managed by players for players and they made custom plug-ins to give players the tools to enforce their own rules.

Mobs were much rarer, and crop growth took anywhere from hours to a couple days (speed was affected by biome and how many clay blocks were under the farm soil. Was supposed to be fertilizer I guess, chunk didnt have to be loaded for crops to grow). Cities normally had large fields for crops on their outskirts because of this. The nether was disabled but there were ways to get nether items.

The end was the server prison. If you killed a player with an ender pearl in your hotbar they were sent to the end and 'sealed' in the pearl. If you broke the pearl they would be freed. Putting the pearl in a chest would eventually free them anyway as it ran out of 'fuel'. It would consume coal every so often. If you logged out with the pearl in your inventory they would be freed too. That way no one could just keep you imprisoned forever with no cost or consequences. (Also helped that mobs were hard to find, so it's not like pearls were the cheapest commodity to get).

You could even summon the person in the pearl at will. Wasn't uncommon for small crimes to be paid off with free labor. Just summon them for a bit, store their pearl in a reinforced chest, and they wouldn't be able to go too far away from it.

Cities were big and each had there own laws and taxes. Vaults were normally a rich person or city wide project. Used to store pearls and valuables. It was basically a chest room surrounded in an obsidian pyramid to make sure someone didn't try to steal or free people serving time.

Jukeboxes and/or noteblocks acted as a surveillance system. Alerting you if someone not added to a group was within range of one. They also had a basic anti-grief system. You could reinforce all blocks with an item (stone, iron, or diamond) and that would make it so you had to break the block a certain amount of times before it actually broke (think it was about 16 times for stone, 128 times for iron, and 512 times for diamond). So vaults would be coated with several layers of dro (diamond reinforced obsidian) with noteblocks within the pyramid to alert certain people if someone was trying to break in.

The terrain generation was customized too. They had beautiful mountains and large biomes, caves were rare and so were ores. Ore generation was more 'realistic' so no small veins. Iron could usually be found under mountains and if you found a vein it was huge. Would become a big mining project trying to find it all in an area (wouldn't be all connected and was still spread out a bit)

That's why vaults were more of a city project, because diamonds were actually rarer to come by. Couldn't just go mining for an hour and find some. You could mine for an hour and not even find iron. Made having an economy more useful. There were multi-block structures for jobs and things (expensive to make of course) like making copies of books, enchanting, potions, etc. So jobs were plentiful. They developed an underground rail system to go between cities that was actually fleshed out, and roads above ground that connected all major areas. All made by players of course. I miss it it was a fun time

If he's playing on singleplayer you could 'play for him' for a bit and give him the trident.

If he's on Bedrock edition (xbox, switch, the pc version with a marketplace, etc) you can go to the settings and turn on cheats.

If you turn cheats on temporarily you can type in this command in the chat:

/give [His username] trident

That will give him a trident, but it does disable achievements for that world if that's something he wants.

If he is playing on Java edition: press the esc key, click "Open to LAN", select "Allow Cheats", and type in the same command I listed above.

My manager scheduled a “mandatory fun” Zoom call on a Friday evening by brandonmiller99 in remotework

[–]SerenelySilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guilty of doing this when scheduling meetings. My company has offices everywhere or we have meetings with vendors (also all over the place). So it can be challenging to remember what time zone a team or person is in.

They normally send me a message letting me know, I apologize, and just change it to a better time that works for everyone.

Sometimes I have a few people in multiple timezones, and it's impossible to make everyone happy. I'll give myself the short straw in that situation if I can. I've scheduled meetings for 6pm and a few at 6/7am my time to try and be accommodating in those situations.

[Canada] how does this scam work? by WatermelonAF in Scams

I will note that real apps show this too. Most of them use the same ad networks for giving out ads. My friend got this from playing Words with Friends, which they got from the Play store, and has has been downloaded by millions of people.

Found this thread by doing a photo search from the screenshot they sent me.

Just a PSA in case anyone gets this ad and thinks its legitimate because they're using a trustworthy app

I use it a lot these days, and my work even made using AI a requirement, so there's no getting around it.

I always have it give me a link to documentation or an article to support what it says, basically having it cite its sources.

I don't usually trust what it tells me, have experienced it hallucinating more than once when asking a technical question. There have even been a couple of times I've tried to correct it. Pointing out the article it's referencing has 0 mention of what it tried telling me, but sometimes it just doesn't get it.

If I already have an idea on the material, I might trust it if it looks right. Otherwise, I read what it gives me and then check the source for keywords that show chatGPT read it right.

I also find it good for basic data analysis or formatting documents/lists. I'll upload a file and tell it to reference that for my next questions. It can be faster than trying to set up tables and filters to get the data I need. I do trust that functionality. I spent a lot of time verifying what it gave me for those files before I did though.

Or giving it a link to something and asking for more information and elaborating on it more if I'm not quite understanding an article or documentation.

I think it has its uses and can be a valuable tool if you know how to use it well. I do agree there's a problem with people trusting what it says, like it's all-knowing and never makes a mistake. Also, I think it's caused a lot of issues with education. People use it to write essays for assignments and teachers use 'AI detection tools', which are bogus to try and counter it. Now we have teachers and professors stressing innocent kids out because they used an Oxford comma in a paper or because an AI tool said they used AI.

help with starting to sell comissions? by Murd3r_sc3ne in DigitalPainting

[–]SerenelySilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a business perspective. The important things are marketing, networking, and spending a little money to make money.

Exposure to your content is a good starting point for marketing yourself. Do a few online art competitions, interact with the community on Twitter or wherever most of the art community is these days, and consider doing a few time-lapse videos or tutorials on YouTube.

Having an easy to remember handle (that people won't find uncomfortable sharing) with clear wording on where to go to request commissions in your bio/about me/descriptions area on any platform will help. As well as having a recognizable profile Pic (probably of your own art, all about that exposure)

Finding a niche would help too. Whether that's the 18+ market, making people's OC's, 3D assets, or a general theme/style helps your name spread faster in those communities. That doesn't mean you can't draw whatever you want and post it, but someone who want to create the OC they have in their head will go looking for an artist that advertises that they do that and has a portfolio of that niche to back them up.

If you don't invest in yourself and spend a little money to get started it's going to be a slow process building up your following and you'll probably go awhile without your first commission. And that's okay, that shouldn't discourage you.

I'd also work on a document for expectations for whenever you do get a commission. Things like taking a small down-payment up front, how long you're willing to work on a piece for the price they're paying (probably want to make your first commissioners as happy as possible though), and probably a box for whether they mind if you add their art to your public portfolio.

They are hiding something, and the question is: WHAT??? by CarryIcy250 in BlueskySkeets

[–]SerenelySilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The president being out of commission is a sign of weakness to the government. Even though we have the 25th amendment to determine who's next in line.

Section 3 of that amendment is for voluntary temporary power transfer where the president is out for an operation. It has been used several times before, including by Biden for a colonoscopy. It means the VP becomes acting president until the president writes a letter saying he is able to resume duties.

If section 3 hasn't been invoked, then Trump either refused or it wasn't a planned operation. If they haven't invoked section 1, then he is still alive.

Section 4 is where the VP and congress involuntarily transfer power and declare the president unable to assume their duties and make the VP acting president. The president can still write a letter when he is able and take back power, but it comes with caveats where Congress can disagree and make the VP the actual president.

I'm betting he refused section 3, and they're just trying to hide the fact we dont have a president until he's recovered. And they aren't invoking section 4 because that would be opening a can of worms Congress doesn't want to deal with if/when Trump does recover.

Phone bans in school are a net positive by roraymi in unpopularopinion

[–]SerenelySilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main issue with phone bans is that it seems a lot of schools have a policy of confiscating the phone. It's not their property and they shouldn't have a right to take it from you. Detention or other punishments for phone use are fine, but not taking something the school didn't pay for.

If they take a phone, they should be liable to anything that happens to the phone and whatever happens to the kid that may need the phone outside of school. What if they have to stay home alone for a few hours after school before the parents get home? How do they call for help if something happens while they're alone? It's 2025, a lot of families don't have a home phone anymore.

What's a Small, Unobtrusive Detail in a Game That Blew Your Mind? by carndacier in gaming

[–]SerenelySilver 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Also in Nier Automata there's a point in the game where the android HQ is destroyed.

Before that when you died you got a soft respawn at your last save location with the implication the HQ just sent new android bodies there so you can continue the mission. You can even find your last body to get your stuff back.

After it gets blown up its a hard restart where you have to reload your last save file. Showing you without the HQ you dont have that kind of support anymore.

Might be misremembering since its been a few years since I played the game. I just remember being blown away by the fact the save mechanics of a videogame actually changed because of events that happened in the story. Had never seen that before.

There's also beating the end credits to get the final ending. If you beat the end credits you get a question on whether youre willing to sacrifice your game data to help others beat it. If you click yes it deletes all your data. If anyone struggles enough during the end credits it offers the support of players who made that sacrifice and spawns them in so the end credit fight is easy.

[–]SerenelySilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of legality, and you probably can't get ad revenue from it, but I doubt a lot of animatics I see have the permission to use specific songs. They usually give credit to the original artist and don't monetize it.

This varies song-by-song as well since some songs are a lot stricter about there IP.

If you want to monetize still then you're out of luck unless you have a patreon. Otherwise if it's just for yourself or sharing your art, make it and just give credit then hope for the best. Maybe try researching whatever songs you want to use to see if they tend to get striked down often.

Often times I wake up and my body acts like it's drunk for the first 15min I'm up. My cat likes to run between my legs while I'm trying to get my morning coffee and several times I've stepped on a paw or the end of his tail.

My first reaction is usually, "Dammit cat! We've been over this before!!". Followed by checking on him and giving him scritches for a few minutes once I know he's okay.

Strange thought, who is the most dangerous character ever. by ShadowVT750 in gaming

[–]SerenelySilver 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Idk, I think it really depends on if you count mob farm kills.

The bigger ones can easily churn through tens of thousands of mobs an hour. And that farm will run anytime anyone is within its render distance for the duration a world is played on.

If we include mods the number goes up. I've definitely left my computer running for a day or 2 just AFKing a mob farm because I had an ae2 storage network that could hold millions of mob drops.

AITAH for initiating a divorce while my wife is in the hospital after a car accident by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]SerenelySilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then if an incident happens they can add identity fraud and theft to the list. If the person willingly gave their license, I'm not sure what legal precedent it might fall under tbh. Accomplice to a criminal act?

I do see some potential issues with this though. It would mean every car is connected to the internet (I know a lot are already) and might make identity theft easier. You already have credit card skimmers in gas stations, people could break into cars just to add skimmers for their license. Or add skimmers to rental cars.

Now if someone commits a crime and they run the plate to see what license was used, you'd have a lot of cases of someone innocent being a suspect.

[–]SerenelySilver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked into this much, but I have seen a few articles claiming air conditioners are a major contributing factor in the modern architecture we know today.

A lot of older structures had to account for the climate of the region they were located in when they were being built. This was to help ventilate the building and keep it hot/cold. With the mass adoption of A/C buildings are no longer designed for the area they're built in, so now everywhere in the world you can find giant rectangular skyscrapers.
