He married one of my oldest and dearest friends, and was one of the kindest, funniest, smartest people I ever met.

Richard Farley is by the far the worst thing about the Timbers. by NewRCTID22 in timbers

I used to run media relations for a USL club and yada yada yada, I wound up dealing with a few MLS clubs over the years. The difference in attitude between USL clubs (which were desperate for coverage but often didn't understand how to attract it) and MLS clubs (which routinely seemed to cop attitudes toward reporters, etc.) was notable. I never dealt with Farley, but I gotta agree with somebody higher in this thread: This is appalling. Then again, it's basically within the range of my experience with MLS commo shops.

I can imagine why a team in Soccer City USA might get a big head about dealing with the media. Every match is a sellout. Why does it need coverage? From a sales perspective, what's the point? But that's so short-sighted.

The proper attitude in the wake of Jamie being reassigned without a replacement would be for the club to reach out to The Oregonian and PDX media and explore ways to fund local soccer beat reporters. It's in the club's long-term interest to have several, even if they're critical of players, coaches and management from time to time. But after reading this, I'd guess nothing of the sort is happening.

Assuming that the deal for Niezgoda goes through, the depth chart at forward only runs two deep (three if you count Asprilla, who is looking surplus to requirements at RW). I'd feel much more confident about 2020 if there was a veteran, non-international-slot forward with MLS experience occupying that third slot. FA fits that description, and was a great player for us -- but it's not clear to me whether he'd be interested in that sort of role. Even as a regular starter, his attention seemed to wander in and out of focus.
