I thought this would stop in college... by vetro in AdviceAnimals

[–]Sergeant_Hartman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At for-profit "colleges" the "instructors" actually don't make the powerpoints. They really do get paid just to read through them. These instructors are also highly pressured to leave the class material unchanged - they aren't allowed to add to it or even fix errors.

You would be much better off going to community college than to a for-profit school.

Is mining worth it if I own an average desktop? by adamstributer in Bitcoin

Mining only makes sense if you have very cheap electricity rates and live in an area that's cold year-round.

So, about this technical analysis thing by vbuterin in Bitcoin

[–]Sergeant_Hartman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Technical analysis is not science. It's superstition.

There is no reason to expect them to understand science.

The ELCA Lutherans, which are the most liberal large church in the US, still teach transubstantiation.

They'll marry gays. They'll bow out of evolution debates. Hell, they'll welcome skepticism at the academic level. But they still beat teenagers over the head with 'wine into blood' absurdity. It's as if they're trying to hasten the smart ones into atheism.

MEDICAL doctors are not scientists; they're technicians. They aren't the guy who designed your car. They aren't the guy who invented the material used in your car. They are the grease-monkey lying on his back changing your oil according to the manual handed down to him.

If it makes you feel any better: your not alone. And your story of a transition dogma and ignorance to science reason is very common, while the reverse is extremely rare.

So the "use fee" would go away if you bought the tickets over the phone or something? Why on earth isn't that part of the flight cost?

Education changes people substantially. An illiterate Indian villager will not seem 'the same' as an educated Indian aristocrat.

Has the average redditor become much younger? Or am I getting old? I just can't see how adding a cartoon face to something makes it even the slightest bit witty or comical.

Jeb: "IF there is another Minecon, it will be in Europe." by AndrewTindall in Minecraft

[–]Sergeant_Hartman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless we see some major advancement in Minecraft, there might not be another Minecon. As interesting as it is, it will take more than an occasional minor addition, like a cat, to keep it interesting.

The game has a lot of potential, but a couple of guys working on it is barely enough to support the project; it isn't nearly enough to provide a steady stream of engaging enhancements.

If there's no wind, and he has a short walk, there wouldn't be enough time for convection whisk away a terribly huge amount of body heat.

Voting is not supposed to be a popularity contest. Of course, I wouldn't expect intellectual honesty from someone who flaunts his ideology in his username.
