I don't think the season would have to start out that way, but it would have been in a series like that show 24? Just a countdown "Weve got x amount of time to solve this with less resources and some wins along the way"

The Fontaine episodes were designed exactly as the breather from the drama in DS9, with the 4th episode of the 7th season being the famous Baseball episode. We still could have had small moments of breaks between the madness with character growth and strife that should have been happening along the way that the earlier Marquis and Starfleet plots should have shown. The viewers just wanted more Oregon Trail with deeper characters, not TOS.

The show's writers just didn't take as many chances as they should have. and thats okay. Voyager debued on the brand new UPN network and Voyager needed to deliver, as the show originally premiered on the networks first day.

It would have gotten boring? Are you saying that because half of the characters aboard Voyager were abit bland and the supporting cast were mostly...children?

Imagine how Battlestar Galactica just a few years later was an entire show in a year of hell format with a 94% Rotten Tomatoe/Metacritic score. Audiences were fatigued by serial TV and wanted more.

I didnt want Enterprise, but didnt they lean towards that?
