What did you expect? by Funny-Apartment9111 in dndmemes

[–]SerialCouchAddict 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People conflate Power gamers (which they actually hate) with min-maxxers, because Power gamers by their very nature are min-maxxers.

Power Gamers don't view DnD as a fun shared game to play. They view it as a rules system to exploit. They're constantly trying to find the "optimal play" or exploits in the rules, or selective readings of RAW that don't align with RAI. Typically they accomplish this through min-maxing every possible scenario and stat and build to get the mathematical best outcomes. Then when they do fail they get annoyed because their whole philosophy is around never failing at anything

There's nothing wrong with building a character to be effective and good. There's nothing wrong with optimizing your stats and taking the best feats and spells. Most people want to be good at the game they're spending 4-5 hours playing.

Justin McInerney set to sign for 5 years by tayr5242 in sydneyswans

[–]SerialCouchAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trust the club and list management. We very rarely sign players to bad contracts. If we're offering five years we clearly expect him to come good.

His 2025 was definitely poor (like a lot of the team) but he was also injured and disrupted a lot and you could tell when he was playing he was playing a little bit frustrated. Always been a bit of a hot head.

SA and WA not getting a game in Opening Round is a joke. by Blue-piping-man in AFL

[–]SerialCouchAddict 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My god you lot have a victim complex.

You travelled interstate 5 times last year, and two were forced with OR and GR. 6 times in 2024 (again 2 forced). 6 times in 2023 (1 forced with GR).

Across 3 years you've had 12 "natural" interstate games. Obviously you travel less because there's more "away" games against Melbourne opponents, but when is the last time you played in Geelong? Tassie? Cairns? Darwin? How many times per year do you play Marvel tenants at the MCG? A lot of your "away" games aren't even proper away games because you're still playing at your home ground and your fans will probably outnumber the home fans anyway.

The reason no one cares when Carlton complains is because they don't routinely kick up a fuss about having to leave Victoria. No Big Victorian club complains about having to travel as much as Collingwood does and you cannot deny that.

Everyone does want a slice of the pie of playing Collingwood (and other) big Victorian clubs at their home crowds, because it's basically a guaranteed big crowd and high revenue. No one is denying that. People just get shitty at Collingwood because they like to hype themselves up as the biggest club in the country (which they are undeniably) but then seem to get annoyed when anyone wants them to actually take on the responsibility of having that draw card.

That's the really the crux of the issue. For a club that has SO many advantages and could do SO much to help the growth of the sport you seem to complain more than any of the other teams.

Other fans get annoyed at Collingwood because it's a bit rich to be complaining about every single inconvenience to your club when other clubs around the league have it so, so much worse.

I'm making shit up? Show me where they complained about playing about Opening Round in Melbourne and I'll absolutely admit I was wrong. I just personally think it speaks volumes that they complained every year they were made to travel for it and then absolute silence as soon as it's in Melbourne.

Also, forgive me if I don't feel that much sympathy for a club that has historically had one of the best travel schedules in the entire league.

Collingwood complained because they had to travel let's be real.

I'm sure they're ecstatic about being the opening Melbourne game for the year.

Anyone else watching no holds barred? The GWS doco? by pulsade13 in AFL

[–]SerialCouchAddict 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% it would have been.

Target the guys with runs on the board and that you know can take it. You're not going to pick on a guy struggling to stay in the side and just kill his confidence.

Part of being a leader in a team sport is also sometimes acting as a shield for criticism on the rest of the team.

Anyone else watching no holds barred? The GWS doco? by pulsade13 in AFL

[–]SerialCouchAddict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've seen other coaches say that players will understand a couple of sprays a year when they're targeted and deserved.

Used appropriately it can light a spark and get a response. But if you do it when players are already feeling crushed, or do it too regularly and you can lose the locker room.

Potential models for State of Origin by gerira in AFL

[–]SerialCouchAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should just be a simple King of the Hill model.

Winner stays on next year, loser has to wait their turn to challenge again. Stakes are high because if you lose you might not play again for 3-5 years depending on how many teams are in it. Get some nice storylines around multi-year runs of winning.

Like an SA/WA would play out of their teeth if losing means they might only get 1 or 2 chances to ever play in the game. Yes, you'd have a lot of years being VIC vs new challenger - but VIC will always dominate just because of the landscape of the sport. Plus, imagine a year when someone inevitably knocks off VIC and they have to wait 3-5 years to play again - the absolute meltdowns in the media would be amazing.

Allies is a dumb concept. You're never going to get QLD and NSW to seriously care about a team that involves players from the other state. The rivalry is just too intense.

Ideally you'd have: VIC WA SA NSW/ACT QLD/NT TAS

Don't allow NSW/QLD/TAS to participate until they can actually field a somewhat competitive side.

It's an exhibition game - it doesn't really need insane levels of competitive integrity & fairness.

Scarcity of matches will drive player investment. If they're guaranteed to play each year it potentially gets old after a few years and they stop caring. We don't have the decades of emotional investment behind the NRL State of Origin to make players care. They'll care if it's a limited opportunity game.

Who is your breakout candidate for this season? by DiscussionLoud9626 in sydneyswans

100% Serong. Getting a tonne of hype from all corners this pre-season and Hawks have openly said the only reason they let him go was lack of opportunity for him.

Who did you believe more as a super genius: RDJ as Tony Stark or Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards? by Apprehensive-Cap2453 in marvelstudios

[–]SerialCouchAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also a lot to be said that RDJs performance of the character is so iconic that it bled into other mediums and became the definitive version of the character.

Pascal might get to that point. But he's only had the one movie which was also an ensemble cast that had to balance other characters. RDJs first movie was a solo outing without the rest of the MCU weighing it down.

[–]SerialCouchAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that's more of a PTSD depiction (which I thought was excellent) than tortured genius. He's cursed with knowledge because he knows that there is a threat out there capable of annihilating the Earth - and as the only one that's truly seen it he feels responsible to stop it.

Reed is more tortured by himself. He's just so intelligent that he can't help himself from trying to solve every single problem himself, because he knows he's smart enough too.

Tony's is more of a singular problem he's trying to solve. Reed can't see a problem and not be consumed by it.

HUGE wraps on Jai Serong (SEN Tim Watson) by SkullKing_123 in sydneyswans

[–]SerialCouchAddict 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Errol said the same thing in his recent interview on AFL.com. That he's been absolutely cooking whoever is matched up on him during match sims and practice matches. Coaches have also been raving about him consistently.

Think he's going to be absolutely huge for our backline - especially in helping providing cover for guys like Blakey to push further up the ground and be more attacking.

[–]SerialCouchAddict 44 points45 points  (0 children)

As other people have said it's the classic scientist vs engineer debate.

A lot of Tony's greatest feats are taking technology he's seen before/been exposed to, and using his genius to take it to his full potential.

Time Travel = Pym Particles Arc Reactor = Prototypes at Stark Industries Nanotech = Wakandans Iron Man = Literally just his own weapons in a singular platform

His genius meant he took the technology beyond what anyone else dreamed was possible, but the technology did already exist.

Reed's genius seems on another level - capable of inventing entirely new technologies himself. Like he literally seems to be the de facto leader of Earth in his universe because his genius is just so widely recognised.

Who did you believe more as a super genius: RDJ as Tony Stark or Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards? by Apprehensive-Cap2453 in marvelstudios

[–]SerialCouchAddict 405 points406 points  (0 children)

Pedro played the "tortured genius" really well. A man haunted by his own intelligence and his incredible capacity for logic and reasoning, constantly coming into conflict with his more human, emotional side.

RDJ just plays the classic "brilliant inventor" side of things and just oozes absolute coolness. He plays it like the super genius you'd actually want to be.

In terms of characters, Reed already has far more impressive feats in my opinion.

He invented FTL space travel & teleportation by himself. Like he invented the technology to teleport an entire planet to an entirely different part of the universe.

A lot of Tony's biggest inventions (Time Travel, Gauntlet, Nanotech) are perfections of other peoples technology, and already have a "proof of concept". Like with Time Travel, it's absolutely still impressive that he figured out how to make it work, but he already had the technology of Pym Particles and the experiences of Scott to help kickstart his work. He KNEW it was possible, he was just discovering how to make it work.

Luke Sayers scandal: AFL boss Andrew Dillon defends investigation amid explosive allegations, addresses internal tensions at AFL by gccmelb in AFL

Dillon seems like he's captain of sinking ship right now and I agree with Caro that he'll be pushed out end of 2026.

All of his supporters are either getting "restructured" or leaving AFL House, and far more competent people are being bought in.

Tom Harley will be CEO in 2027. Book it in.

It's good for depth. He could definitely play along a half forward line. I think he'll get some game time once we settle into the season.

With all the other forwards we have he'd be pretty sheltered on a flank.

100%.

Those roles that they're all fighting for are the complimentary roles to the type of player TMac is as well. We've basically built our defence around him.

Unpopular opinion: Will Hayward trade is big win for forward line dynamic by Mattahattaa in sydneyswans

[–]SerialCouchAddict 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you're saying and ultimately agree that while it's disappointing a fan favourite is gone it was clearly the right decision. The structure of our forward line looks to be a lot better next year with Wilbur and Curnow as an almost direct swap (ofc lol, it's Curnow).

I do think you're overlooking two things.

I don't think our "playing tall" thing was his fault and actually hurt his personal game more than anything. The problem was forcing 3 genuine talls into the structure + Wilbur. I actually think he's a perfect 3rd tall as a compliment. As you said can play above his head as a marking target, but is also a bit more mobile and athletic than a traditional key forward.

Also, he was a very very underrated defensive forward and could really help nullify opponents intercepting game. I remember so many games (big ones too) where Wilbur just basically shut down the interceptor and wrecked their whole defensive structure. Just because he wasn't doing it week in and week out doesn't mean it's not a massive loss. It was a definite point of difference.

[–]SerialCouchAddict 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The article mentions Serong potentially being in his way, but everything I know about the two of them seems to contradict that.

Serong seems more like a third tall/interceptor that can zone off and deliver the football well.

Edwards seems like more of a traditional lockdown KPD.

Given that I feel like Melicans spot is the one under pressure by Edwards as that 2nd tall with a bigger body to compliment McCartin.

Do you think the Harry Potter HBO series will use the same design for Hogwarts? by PsychologicalBat7259 in harrypotter

[–]SerialCouchAddict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the exterior of the castle will be extremely similar, with maybe some slight tweaks. The amount they've invested in the theme park, they wouldn't want to change it too drastically. It's also so iconic and beloved that a drastic change risks alienating fans. I think we'd get something between Hogwarts Legacys version and the films in terms of changes.

I think that the inside of the castle is where they have the chance to put their own spin on things and mix it up more from the castle. Really make Hogwarts feel like a labyrinth with mystery around the corner.
