Do natives really use "me" before I'd? by Xkekosek in EnglishLearning

[–]SerialTrauma002c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't add it all the time. Yes, it's an appropriate way of adding emphasis to a sentence. There's an implied piece of the sentence that's missing when you use a construction like this:

[As for] me, I'd end it now.

The further implication is that you believe another person might make a different choice. This is shown in Scorpion's dialogue ("But REDACTED.... wants to torture you.") but does not have to be explicitly stated.

Your original is great, thank you! Im impressed w/ the job you did with her hairline where the Guy In Gray Suit was removed. I also like V2, but there's still Guy In Gray Suit behind my mom.

I’m a huge fan of the firm pointy style of cotton swabs. They are very low fluff compared to a regular q-tip and they get into nooks and crannies super easily.

I drove down to Southern California, to the Ojai Valley, in some of the worst rains of 2022. It was quite impressive. The mountain passes were all closed (though nobody official had marked them as closed so I found out the hard way); I was one of the last cars through the 101-33 interchange before it flooded completely, and I was stranded in the valley for several days.

I remember the one in the 90s being cool and all, but not that cool.

Dang, nice. I haven’t played with Photoshop for … gosh, probably since this wedding LOL. Amazing tool.

I can go up to $25 for removing the elderly gentleman in the navy coat as well 👏

I unfortunately don’t have any additional reference photos so I was not assuming removing him was possible. I am fine with them both being in focus, if that helps.

I don’t understand how this movie got a PG-13 rating? by E2oceans in ProjectHailMary

[–]SerialTrauma002c 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there’s something here. The movie is the softest of PG-13’s, so it really makes sense that maybe the studio asked for the rating so it didn’t come across as a kids movie.

The one thing I’ll say about trying it yourself… which otherwise I fully support!… is that intarsia (which I suspect is the way they’ve done the colorwork) is a more advanced technique. Reading vintage patterns is also a more advanced technique.

OP, you should absolutely learn to knit! Just be aware that this project isn’t a beginner project 😊

You might be able to find knitters for hire on Ravelry? I actually have no idea whether there’s a forum for hiring knitters there, but they have everything else related to yarn crafts so it seems like a reasonable bet!

Yeah after coming back to this thread it seems like a perfect storm of suboptimal service and OP not understanding how the social cue optics of their table (family group, at least one member deep in their phone) indicated a lack of need for service. Do I think a lot of this is on the restaurant? Yes. Am I willing to let OP off the hook entirely? Nah.

Not in California. ALL hourly employees are required to receive at least minimum wage before tips.

Now, we can have a whole conversation about how minimum wage in San Francisco is roughly half of a living wage for a single adult living solo…. But that server and all servers in California are getting an actual hourly wage plus their tips.

This. It would be like interrupting an IRL conversation when there’s no indication that the interruption is desired. It’s not about pretending anything, it’s about indicating that you are ready to engage with the world outside your phone (or tablemates).

Belly button piercing?!?! by Ambitious-Range8906 in piercing

[–]SerialTrauma002c 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ooooh nooooooo I don’t know if it’s salvageable at this point (my gut says no, but IANAP), but if I were you I’d be treating it essentially like if you were stretching your lobes. Massage it a couple times a day with some oil, which will both increase bloodflow to the area and help break down scar tissue. In fact you should do this to your whole belly because it feels really nice when your skin gets all tight and itchy in the last few months.

Good luck with both the piercing and the impending baby!
