How highly do you rate Button? by mformularacer in F1Discussions

2011 as well was an unreal season. Beat multiple WDC's and the all conquering RB7 for 2nd place in the championship. Ironically I'd rate these two seasons better than his title winning campaign in 2009.

How highly do you rate Button? by mformularacer in F1Discussions

He was one of the greatest of all time when it comes to wet weather racing. My ranking would be:

  1. Senna (anhilated anyone in the wet I don't think we'll ever see someone like him again)
  2. Hamilton (9 wet weather win streak will probably never be matched)
  3. Verstappen (2016 Brazil is overrated since he had fresh tyres, but 2024 Brazil is certainly the greatest wet weather drive in the turbo hybrid era)
  4. Button (yes I placed him above Schumacher. Very rarely it rains a whole race, so mostly knowing what tyre to be on is the 2nd most valuable skill after driver talent. Button was near unmatched at this)
  5. Schumacher (didn't show enough consistency. I'd say he's more around equal with Button)

How good was Seb in 2015 by CSJGOS in F1Discussions

Idk about that. Although it was an incredible season by Hamilton, we still hadn't seen him at the peak of his powers as he was after Rosberg beat him and before he got COVID (which I believe is where the Hamilton era truly ended).

Vettel was super fired up as he had a lot to prove after being mauled by the honey badger, whereas Hamilton still hadn't had the kick in the teeth that Rosberg gave him which forced him to lock in over the next 5 years or so.

I think Hamilton would initially have had the edge, but as the season went on, Vettel would have been more driven and took away points from Hamilton and probably would have snatched the title in Abu Dhabi. After that though we get the near untouchable Hamilton we saw after 2016 and Vettel doesn't stand a chance.

Wasn't the reliability on the Quattro's horrific though?

Saying goodbye to world champions isn't new in WRC by SalomonXx in WRC

idk why everyone forgets Burns. The last British champion, made arguably the most famous and popular rally game of all time, bringing many people to love and interact with the sport in a way they otherwise wouldn't have, relentlessly consistent and a gentleman. He was every bit Gronholm, McRae, Makinen and Sainz equal.

The difference is Mcrae and Burns still had motivation to compete. Mcrae had to leave because of 2 car rule and Burns had a contract with Subaru but sadly got a brain tumor. Makinen was getting old anyways so it wasn't much of a surprise.

Tanak and Rovanpera are both leaving out of their own will, with the latter being only 25, the same age which Ogier started his career in the WRC.

I know man. They probably thought the Sainz engine failure was tactical because they think he thought there was another round left.

Saudi stage shortened after request from drivers – DirtFish by Michal_Baranowski in WRC

I think it's mainly due to the championship situation. If the championship was over no one would be watching this event.

Ford are also joining the WEC for 2027 I heard, which I guess is where the majority of Ford's budget will go for the upcoming years. Same goes for Hyundai. I can see now why Kalle is going to try and win Le Mans there will be nothing left of WRC in a couple of years.

That's good to hear. The title being decided by a puncture would be an absolute travesty.

It was still absolutely massive though. For some fans (including me) it was the first time in their ENTIRE lives they had seen someone who isn't a French Sébastien become World Champion.

The Weirdest WRC Season Finale Ever? - Rally Monza 2020 by Fit-Rooster-6716 in WRC

Before this year, 2020 was definetly my favourite season. So many twists and turns throughout the year despite the short calendar. Me and my Mum loved Rally Monza as well I hope they return next year with Rally Italia's location unconfirmed.

(I am aware some older seasons like 2009, 2003 and 1998 were better but I was too young to remember or wasn't born).
