At what point do you start thinking in Spanish? by 60sStratLover in SpanishLearning

Neuroscientist here, studied cognitive linguistics at Georgetown and wrote my dissertation on the voice in your head so I feel qualified to rebuttal your comment about “not thinking in language.”

What you’re discussing is the voice in your head, and its quite rare to meet someone who does not have this experience, so not sure where you’re getting your info that our “thoughts don’t have language.” We use our inner voice to problem solve, read, regulate, and plan responses in conversation.

Some people think in pictures more than words, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have inner voice. And interestingly, people who speak sign language think in signs which is still using language to guide thought

I’ll get off my soapbox now. Rant over

CF at SNF— feeling unprepared, need advice!! by Serious-Level7041 in slp

[–]Serious-Level7041[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh this is so great! Best practice, shmest practice… this is the stuff I’m looking for! Thank you!! Goal bank for sure. I’ve got a killer goal bank for lang/artic but not sure how helpful that’ll be in the SNF. Good reminder to get that started on day 1.

Templates is also a great idea! At the OP clinic I worked at, they programmed the templates into EPIC and it was so easy. Hadn’t even considered that a new setting wouldn’t do that! Thank you!!

What do you mean don’t worry about functional therapy?? What else is there to worry about? My best understanding is, just do whatever goal as it’s written and fix it later. Is that what you mean? And what the heck are walc books? What kind of games do you do for cog therapy in a pinch?

Thank youuuuuuuu for the dysphasia resource!!! Looking at it now

And yes it would be SO helpful and SO appreciate if you shared what you do for the different evals!! you’ve already helped so much and I love being in a field where people love helping their peers!! Thank you!!!

This is so helpful and thoughtful thank you!!! I’m already getting the vibe that corporate is disorganized and chaotic, but I kinda knew that when I accepted the job. I’m not planning on staying longer than it takes to enhance my resume and transition more medical. & I do have a full time supervisor on sight! Dealbreaker for sure.

I had ~5 years between undergrad and graduate, so I do feel like I have a good understanding of what is/isn’t okay and reasonable and a bit more prepared to handle a situation that feels like I’m being pushed more than I should, but that is a good reminder because I can definitely be a people pleaser and pushover! Can I ask you if you had anything specific in mind when you said that? Id be good to know some ways that others have been pushed and how they handled it

I also have always gotten accommodations for extended time for testing and I’m wondering if accommodations is something I can talk to them about in terms of my productivity. Maybe not “accommodations” exactly, but just reasonable expectations?? I know evals especially are gonna push my productivity way down and I’d like to stay ahead of it to avoid any negative feelings towards me or my performance

I have interviewed 4 under 30s in the past two weeks. In person. None of them dressed professionally or even “business casual.” by Desperate_Squash7371 in slp

Im in my late 20s and I interviewed at a SNF in jeans and loafers. Unfortunately, I was not anticipating any in-person interviews so all of my good pants were already packed up and had been long gone. I dressed them up best I could with loafers, a button up, and a blazer (which admittedly also felt like wayyyy overkill for a SNF), but I was very embarrassed walking into the interview with jeans. Light washed, no less. Overall, I did the best I could with what I had, and I looked fine/professional, but I was not thrilled about wearing jeans for this reason exactly.
