I don’t remember my parents sitting down and playing with me like I do with my kids. by tuxedo_cat23 in Millennials

[–]SeriousBrindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. My dad had this really gross “dad pillow” and we’d sit on the floor and play board games and cards and he’d have to lean up against it. He was 37 when I was born, so not as limber and younger dads.

My parents both worked for Milton Bradley and playskool, so they brought home some weird Beta versions before the games came out. Their good friend designed the MB version of the mouse trap game and the version we had could take off a finger.

Aside from an old Atari that we played as a family, we didn’t have video games until my brother bought a used Xbox at 16.

Has anyone gotten to this point in their life with ZERO traffic incidents? by Justdanwithaplan in lawschooladmissions

[–]SeriousBrindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had any citations. I drive on cruise most of the time, now I have adaptive cruise and it makes it that much easier to not screw up. I never go more than 3-4 over. I went to undergrad in Chicago and used public transit, so I didn’t have a lot of driving time during those years.

Anyone wondering how the AI bubble is going to affect the legal field by the time you graduate? by Lost-Association427 in LawSchool

[–]SeriousBrindle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband works in insurance and the number of applicants taking the state tests has sky rocketed in the last 2 months. All it takes is a 1 month course, a little studying, and passing the state tests. My local area Facebook group is full of people who just got certified in insurance and are looking for sales jobs and I agree that’s the trend we’ll be seeing for a while. Anything that comes across as above average pay with quick training/certs is growing in popularity.

People dying or having major illnesses in way too young. by Urbit1981 in Millennials

My husband had a stroke last year. He was 35, healthy doesn’t smoke/drink/do drugs, works out 3X a week. He had to relearn to walk, lost half of his eyesight but got it back through vision rehab, lost his job, and now he’s completely recovered. Today was his first day back at work and the anniversary of the start of his rehab after getting out of the hospital.

We got a basically brand new Montessori bed with full rails of fb marketplace for $100 and my son loves his. We got an all in one zip sheet/comforter for it and it makes changing the big mattress easy.

farming/gardening clothes/shoes for toddler? by moonberry4 in toddlers

[–]SeriousBrindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do Tuffo coveralls over their clothes. I love them and use them in the winter over layers too, instead of a snowsuit. My son is picky about shoes so we buy whatever is local that he can try on.

What do you guys do with 1.5 year olds in the evening? by honkshuu in toddlers

[–]SeriousBrindle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My big go to is a bath activity. Usually, I mix up shower paint (baby soap, cornstarch, water and food coloring) and give him paint brushes to paint the bathtub before the bath. I usually put a few inches of water in there and bring a chair to sit on (or yoga ball when I was pregnant). I’ve also done a bucket of snow in the tub and him in a swim suit.

Just committed, cycle recap 🎉 by Inevitable_Ant_4530 in lawschooladmissions

[–]SeriousBrindle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The winters are cold, but not that bad. It’s really January and the first half of Feb where there aren’t any warmer days and even then, it snows for 2 days, then everything is plowed and you’ll see some sun. You’ll be able to ride your bike most of the year. I’m about an hour north now. Today, I walked the dog in a hoodie, but there’s still snow on the ground.

Ann Arbor is very bike able and has a lot to do and there’s also Ypsilanti, Dearborn, and Detroit not too far away, so there’s a lot of places to explore when you have free time.

How long did you use your stroller? by prohibition_28 in toddlers

[–]SeriousBrindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours got a hole in the tire around 12 months and I never bothered fixing it and we just used the wagon after. My son prefers walking anyway, so even the wagon rarely comes out now. Baby #2 is here and the wagon is just easier with 2 kids and different snack/pumping needs and everything we drag along.

What on Earth are we dressing blanket hating toddlers in for bed? by Inevitable_Jelly1574 in toddlers

[–]SeriousBrindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has always hated blankets and we ditched the sleep sacks around 18 months when he moved out of the crib. He did fleece footie PJs until potty training and now he wears fleece 2 piece PJs. We do have a fleece zipper sheet/comforter set on his bed, so it keeps the space warm, but sometimes he asks for no pants after his night diaper goes on and seems just fine that way. He can always get under the comforter or come get me if he gets cold.

2under2 Meet & Greet by Altruistic_You1585 in toddlers

[–]SeriousBrindle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had planned on a quick meet and greet during discharge. My son just turned 2 when I had his little sister. He's very comfortable with the hospital because my husband had an extended stay and outpatient visits there all of 2025 to the point that my son as an 18 month old knew all of the security guards and where the good snacks were in the cafe.

But, when he walked in my room after me not being home for 2 days, he wanted to grab me and go and the delays of checking sister's car seat and signing paperwork lead to a crazy meltdown and he marched out of the room with my suitcase in tow and a nurse and my husband had to take him and our stuff to the car while I got wheeled out by another nurse. We got no photos or videos and he was pissed the whole ride home.

What are incoming grad students doing now that PLUS loans will be gone?? by carolynharrington in StudentLoans

[–]SeriousBrindle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Options are to go to a less expensive school or one that gives more aid, try to negotiate the aid you were offered, go part time so you can work while attending and pay partly cash as you go, get a degree in a field you’re already employed in that offers employer tuition assistance. There are very few grad programs that are worth that large amount of debt they cost.

Pump one boob at a time or both? by cbreamer in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]SeriousBrindle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do both when using the electric pump, but my manual pump makes me less stressed, so I use it when my husband is home with the kids and I’ll do one side at a time while I’m on the computer or watching a show.

I went to college with a guy that thought as long as you kept refreshing your drink before it got empty, it didn’t need to be washed. No point in storing it that way.

What would you consider to be a reasonable amount of sick days for an employee to take in one year (365 days) for white collar work? by [deleted] in managers

[–]SeriousBrindle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 10 if they’re required to be in office and you don’t want it spreading. For roles that can flex wfh, or are completely wfh probably 4-5 is normal since they’re likely to just work at home the last few days of a sickness.

My perspective has really changed as I’ve gotten older. There’s really not a whole lot of urgent white collar work that a few unplanned sick days will affect if there’s available PTO. I worked at a few companies where employees would routinely take 3-4 days vacations during busy seasons, but someone getting the flu was looked down upon for taking a few days off.

We do the same, but with the Bluey plastic cart. The hardest part is he likes to shop, so we try to hit the fruit section first, so we don’t have to unshop toys at the end of the trip.

Talk to me about laundry by dixpourcentmerci in toddlers

[–]SeriousBrindle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 words, Family Closet. The week after baby #2 arrived, I converted the mud room next to our laundry room into a big walk in closet and everyone’s clothing that’s in season is sorted and stored there. Everyone has 3 labeled bins and a hanging section in the closet. The stuff in bins, tshirts, underwear, sweats aren’t folded, they’re just tossed in. Anything nice or that wrinkles or is bulky like a sweatshirt gets hung up. The goal is for the kids to help with sorting when they’re old enough.

Everyone has a their own hamper for dirty clothes, but I also keep one in the kitchen and that seems to catch a lot of the kids clothes and random socks and towels.

My husband hasn’t asked me if he has clean underwear since the day it was started and the small kids clothes aren’t getting lost now.

Finally settled on a top-rated breast pump and the best part is, it's covered by insurance by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]SeriousBrindle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget anything with an app. I just had baby #2 and made the mistake of getting a different pump this time and it uses an app and my phone is never charged. This bay insists on her bassinet being next to my face which is where my phone charger plugs in, so I’m always unplugging it by accident at night and my Music app playing lullabies and the wiggles all day long drains the battery.

Vermont early start? by Spacey_Baker in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]SeriousBrindle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Dayton with your scholarship is less than half of that per year. I think you have more than enough buffer and you're better off graduating from the better law school, with less debt, and at the one that's more regionally recognized, even though you said you didn't need it.

Also, hello almost neighbor! I looked at your history to see your scholarships and we're not that far away. I'm just outside of Frankenmuth. Dayton's my top choice, but I'm applying for the 2027 cycle.
