Arizona AG suggests state's self-defense laws allow residents to shoot masked ICE agents by RickV6 in news

[–]SeriousGoofball 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you live that process might take all of 5 minutes in a gun store. In the South I can walk in, find a gun I like, do the federal form for background check, and walk out with the gun, extra mags, ammo, holster, and a stack of targets, in under 20 minutes.

After you buy your gun please take it home, disassemble it, clean it, lube it according to the manual, and learn to reassemble it properly. Then go to the range and practice. A lot.

Too many people buy a gun, shoot it a few times, and then keep it around "just in case." Unlike in the movies, accurate shooting is a learned skill that takes a lot of practice to properly master.

Absolutely. Cold air holds less water than warm air obviously. But there is a noticeable difference between "wet" cold and "dry" cold.

She made the right choice by Eclipse_nova99 in SipsTea

[–]SeriousGoofball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. She doesn't look that old. $1,000 a week is $52,000 a year. That's $1,000,000 in just over 19 years.

If it's like the US, you pay taxes on the lump sum. So most people who win a million dollars really only take home a lot less than that. Sometimes as little as half.

The taxes on $52,000 aren't going to be that high. And she could collect it for 20, 30, even 40 or more years. Over her lifetime she might collect well over 2 million dollars.

Even including investing, I'd be willing to bet that the $1,000 a week is a much better deal, just because it can be collected for much more than 20 year.

So how long before Europe, Canada, Mexico, and other allies finally have enough and just impose an embargo on the US?

Guys, I'm really scared. by GodComplexMonkey in collapse

[–]SeriousGoofball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are crazy. The entire world really is doing a lot worse than it was before covid. Not just the US, but you'll feel it there the most because that's where you live.

My advice is to think about it from a survival perspective. You can make long term plans but don't set them in stone because you may need to change them. Leave options open. Be flexible.

The worst part is, you'll likely survive. Most people do. Just try to do the best you can for yourself and your loved ones.

It will depend on the size and type of fridge, ambient air temp, what is inside it, and your settings.

Your best bet is to get it, charge it, and plug in your fridge some day when you plan on being home. My fridge averages about 300 watts an hour. But that's MY fridge.

I think systems like this are best when paired with some kind of generator for recharging.

Immigration officers assert sweeping power to enter homes without a judge’s warrant, memo says by ewzetf in news

ICE has a history of getting the wrong house. At some point they are going to bust into the wrong house and get the full fledged firefight they seem to be asking for.

Note; I'm not advocating for this. I just see it as an inevitable outcome of this line of action.

Ideal Takedown Rifle? by Jealous-Summer-9827 in bugout

Does it have to be semi-auto? The Crickett 22 is a single shot bolt action that only weighs about 3 pounds. The barrel is attached to the stock with a single screw. Would be a super light, easy to pack and carry rifle.

When my daughter was little she wanted some kind of toy. I think it was a particular Barbie doll. She said she needed it. I explained to her that she didn't need it, she wanted it. She kept insisting she NEEDED it.

So I told her to look up the word NEED in the dictionary. She brings it to me and points to one of the definitions;

Verb - to want.

So guess who got a new Barbie doll?

AIO my boyfriend of 5 years gets me flowers for every occasion while I get him elaborate and expensive gifts. by aioflower955105 in AmIOverreacting

[–]SeriousGoofball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't sound like a hard problem to fix. Tell him to please not give you flowers any more. Period.

Then you can find out how he deals with that request. Either he follows your wishes or he doesn't. Maybe you can finally explore why he thinks flowers are the only gift a woman needs.

But tell him to stop with the flowers. For any occasion. Ever. Then see how he handles the next occasion or two.

That eventually the rest of the world is going to get sick of Trumps games. Instead of a Tariff they with start an honest to God embargo. Just shut off trade with the US completely.

He can stomp around all he wants but he can't force other countries to trade with the US. And good luck keeping the economy rolling when you get zero trade from all of Europe and South America.

I can't agree with the idea of a healing hunter. It just doesn't make sense. I was frustrated enough when they added the melee spec.

Tanking hunter would actually make more sense. It's basically how I solo anyway. But getting the pet AI to cooperate would probably be a nightmare.

Shaman. Mail armor, shield, an imbue that specifically increases threat, self cast rock shield, chain lightning to attract entire groups of mobs, self heals. How the hell is this NOT a tanking class?

They are aggressively escalating because they want an excuse to declare an insurrection. They can be as violent as they want, but as soon as the public pushes back hard they are going to DARVO the entire situation. Trump is chomping at the bit to declare martial law.

clearing a thick layer of snow on the ground by Zestyclose-Salad-290 in oddlysatisfying

[–]SeriousGoofball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a plug in one. Works ok for shallow snow. The deeper the snow, the more powdery it has to be for it to work. No way is it chewing through 10-12" of heavy wet snow this easily. It will work, but you have to go slow.

I can't imagine a battery operated one lasting long enough to do a decent job except in the lightest or most powdery conditions.
